  • Patent number: 6354478
Abstract: An apparatus comprising two lateral guide devices guiding the paper web at the longitudinal edges of the endless paper web, and a deflection means is provided. With the aid of the deflector the paper web is deflected at least once from its direction of movement to increase the stiffness of the paper web while the paper web is moving between the lateral guide devices. Because of that, the paper web is prevented from ascending the lateral guide devices and a damage to the paper web is avoided when the paper web comes into lateral contact with the lateral guide device.

  • Patent number: 6328238
Abstract: A pay-out tube for container-packed coiled wire or cable in which the tube in use has a cable entrance end within the container and a cable exit end on the container exterior. The tube has a flange thereon adjacent the cable exit end and passes through a hole or opening in the wall of the container. The tube has a plurality of latching fingers extending from adjacent the exit end toward the entrance end and a flange adjacent the exit end. Each of the latching fingers has a camming surface and a carton wall engaging lip. The camming surface is so located that when the tube is inserted in the opening in the carton wall and moved longitudinally, the edge of the opening bears against the camming surface to force the latching arm toward the axial center of the tube to allow the tube to be passed through the opening.

  • Patent number: 6302309
Abstract: A feeding device is provided for forwarding a pliable thermoplastic rod into a heated pressure chamber for extrusion through an outlet nozzle to effect thermoplastic welding. The device includes a block with a machined channel through the block including an arcuate inlet portion for receiving the pliable rod and a tubular outlet portion dimensioned to closely surround the rod to prevent buckling of the rod for ejecting the pliable rod under longitudinal force into the chamber. A rotatable drive disk has an outer serrated cylindrical surface engaging one side of the rod in the arcuate inlet portion so that the rod is pinched by a counteracting surface portion in the channel in opposition to the contacting portion of the disk whereby angular movement of the disk around the disk axis acts to forward the rod along its length along the channel. The disk sits in a slot cut in the block with the channel at the bottom of the slot with the same width as the slot.

  • Patent number: 6290170
Abstract: A strip guiding device for guiding a strip longitudinally along a feed path has a limiting mechanism for limiting the strip transversely at opposite side edges thereof to cause the strip to pass through a predetermined position in the feed path. The limiting mechanism has a pair of abutment members having respective abutment surfaces for abutting against the side edges of the strip along the feed path. The abutment members are movable in first directions toward and away from the side edges of the strip, and normally urged by a spring assembly to move away from the strip. The limiting mechanism also has a pair of pressing members having respective slanted surfaces held in sliding contact with respective sliding surfaces of the abutment members remote from the abutment surfaces. The pressing members are movable in second directions transverse to the first directions.

  • Patent number: 6267325
Abstract: A method and device to support a storage tape of a tape drive in the event of a loss of tape tension. Flexible bristles are provided between a tape guide and tape rollers to prevent the storage tape from “falling” below the tape guide and tape rollers and maintaining the storage tape in a position to return between the tape roller flanges when tape tension is regained. In one embodiment, a plurality of flexible bristles are provided along a lower portion of the tape guide. The bristles extend toward a bottom flange of each tape roller in a direction generally perpendicular to the tape path. In another embodiment, the flexible bristles extend radially from the bottom flange of each tape roller. In either embodiment, the bristles are rigid enough to support the storage tape and flexible enough to enable a tape buckle to traverse between the tape guide and tape roller.

  • Patent number: 6220542
Abstract: A modified film transport roller for use with film handling systems to prevent the sticking and bunching of film due to build-ups of static electric charges on the surface of the film. The modified roller has a strip or layer of magnetized polymeric material applied to the hub between the end supports or collars, but of a thickness less than the height of the collars. The film rests on the collars as it passes over the roller and through the magnetic field, but does not come in contact with the magnetized layer. Static charges are polarized by the magnetic field. As a result of the polarization of the static charges, sections of film are not attracted to one another and the film does not stick or bunch as it moves to and from the projector.
