The mechanism includes a control link pivotally coupled to each of the vanes. The control link is selectively movable to correspondingly pivot the vanes and has at least two degrees of freedom corresponding to a two coordinate position. A desired orientation of the vanes may be determined as a function of the two coordinate position. The discharge exit area is contracted by adjusting convergence of the vanes. Patent number: 6050520Abstract: An aircraft for vertical take off and landing is comprised of a rotor assembly mounted on a rotating drive shaft extending from the top of a cabin. The rotor assembly is comprised of a truncated-cone top, a spaced apart circular bottom, and internal vanes running radially, between the top and bottom, forming an air impeller. In operation, air is drawn through the central air intake of the top and discharged through an annular nozzle around the circumference of the rotor assembly. As the top rotates, additional air is rammed through scoops mounted at an angle to radii of the top, on the surface of the top. Pressure jets (62), supplied with compressed air from a compressor (66) driven by the combustion engine, augment the lift of the ducted fans and provide steering for the vehicle. One embodiment of the vehicle comprises an automobile with the propellers mounted in oblique air ducts or in shrouds pivotable in the travel direction. Each rotor of the hydraulic motors is coupled to the shaft unidirectionally so that in case of failure, the shaft can be driven by the other rotor. Each hydraulic pump preferably produces four equal fluid flows and comprises two rotors on a common shaft, each rotor with two separate groups of cylinders, the eccentricity of at least one of the rotors being adjustable.
