The seal plate is mounted to the bolts that extend from the foundation and is leveled after it is inserted onto the bolts.     Abstract: A train warning system and method for warning personnel in proximity to railroad tracks of an approaching train includes a train sensor operable with the railroad tracks for detecting passage of a train over the railroad tracks at a given location. The train sensor generates a train sensor signal upon detecting passage of a train over the railroad tracks at the given location. A transmitter is operable with the train sensor for transmitting a warning signal upon receipt of the train sensor signal. A portable radio frequency (RF) receiver is carried by at least one of the personnel in proximity to the railroad tracks remote from the railroad tracks at the given location for receiving the warning signal transmitted by the transmitter. The portable RF receiver generates an alarm signal to notify the at least one of the personnel of the approaching train upon receipt of the warning signal.

    Abstract: A passive magnetic detector is provided at ground level or buried below ground level in between rails of a railroad trace at a distance from the level crossing for detecting magnetic field disturbances caused by ferromagnetic objects passing overhead on the track. Magnetic field reversals are detected in the passive detector signal. The reversal signal is analyzed and a train presence output signal is generated for controlling a level crossing gate system or other such crossing warning system. For parallel tracks, pairs of passive magnetic field detectors detect objects over each track and the reversals are analyzed to check that an inbound train does not sneak by undetected as an outbound train is leaving and passing over the same detector pair. At the level crossing, static magnetic field detectors are used to ensure that no equipment remains on the island after detecting that the moving train has left the crossing, so that the crossing gates can be safely lifted as soon as possible.

    Abstract: A wireless train proximity alert system provides a constant warning signal to warn vehicles approaching a train crossing when a train is also approaching the crossing. The system includes a transceiver, positioned on the train itself or at the side of the track, for transmitting a train proximity signal, which preferably includes the train's speed and position. A crossing-based transceiver receives the train's proximity signal and transmits the boundary coordinates of a warning zone when the train's estimated time-to-arrival at the crossing is within a predetermined range. A vehicle-based receiver receives the warning zone signal and the crossing's position, compares them to the vehicle's position and speed, and produces an alarm to the vehicle's operator when a potential accident is indicated.

    Abstract: A motor controller for use in railway-crossing signal-gate mechanisms is provided herein. The controller is of a cam type which includes a cam assembly having a movable cam insert that cooperates with a cam follower and switch assembly. The switch controls the gate arm raising motor. The cam insert and cam follower are arranged such that when the gate arm approaches the upright position the cam insert slides quickly or snaps to a position, which permits the switch contacts to open quickly, thereby minimizing arcing between the switch contacts. Moreover, with the cam insert in this position, oscillation of the gate arm about the upright position, which is caused by the gate arm striking the arm stops and bouncing back, is minimized.

    Abstract: The operating mechanism of a railroad crossing gate employs a variable mechanical advantage connection to transmit force from the drive motor to the gate member to raise and lower the same. The main shaft of the mechanism serves as a mount for the gate member and its counterweights, and an operating arm is fixed to the shaft and extends radially therefrom. A crank is driven by reduction gearing and is connected to the arm by a sliding coupling which reciprocates on the arm longitudinally thereof as the crank rotates. The axis of rotation of the crank is located such that the mechanical advantage is high when the gate member is in either its raised or its lowered position, decreasing to a ratio approaching unity at the midpoint of travel in either direction. Accordingly, the starting load is minimized, the gate member is accelerated once it is in motion, and its speed is then reduced as it nears the end of its travel.

    Abstract: A traffic crossing signal mast for railroad-highway grade crossings incorporates a sturdy cantilever arm extending over the highway and supporting a maintenance catwalk. A short, horizontal jury mast at the end of the cantilever arm is pivotable about its axis parallel to the highway direction through limited angular sectors of one-quarter turn clockwise and counterclockwise. A junction box assembly mounted at each end of the jury mast suspends a pair of warning flasher crossing signal lamps on each side of the catwalk aimed down the highway axis. Pivoting movement of the jury mast from its locked, detent position to a latched quarter-turned position raises one of each pair of signal lamps for initial cable connections, repairs or replacement of flashing lamp heads. A lockable clamping cam lever disengages the detent for jury mast rotation and re-engages it to secure the signal lamps in their aligned position for use.
