Abstract: The present invention provides four essentially equal and (generally) evenly spaced constraints on the ball. It is the equivalent of a ball and socket joint in which the “socket” is composed of four small constraining pads of equal size and equally spaced around the surface of the ball or sphere. If a sphere is constrained by four equidistant points, each point will exert the same amount of force on the sphere. If additional pressure is applied to one point, the pressure exerted by the other points will rise to match this increased pressure. The effect of constraining a smooth ball by four equidistant points is to create the equivalent of a ball and socket joint in which the force required to rotate the ball at a particular rate is about the same in any direction. The ball is constrained by four equidistant points such that the relative movement between the ball and housing is smooth and predictable in any direction.

  • Patent number: 7891615
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards ball and socket joint connectors which, when interconnected, form a flexible assembly. In some embodiments, the ball and socket joint connectors are designed and constructed such that the interference fit of the ball and socket causes creep in the material resulting in more even frictions in the various ball and socket joints. In some embodiments, the ball and socket joint connectors utilize an over-molded strip around the outside of the connector to facilitate in their use for gripping. In an exemplary embodiment utilizing the aforementioned ball and socket joint connectors, a tripod apparatus uses legs comprising the ball and socket joint connectors for support and for gripping objects.

  • Patent number: 7748670
Abstract: A television rotational support apparatus provides unlimited rotation of a removably mounted viewing screen, through a full 360 degree rotation. Pivot of the viewing screen mount provides for pivotal positioning of a viewing screen. The apparatus is compact with regard to size and with regard to distance between a mounting object and a viewing screen. The relatively short distance between mounting object and removably mounted viewing screen insures that minimal leverage force is imposed on the mounting object. Components of the apparatus such as the motor, gears, and battery/receiver provide for removal for replacement or service. A remote control provides for remotely rotating the viewing screen mount and hence the viewing screen.

  • Patent number: 7690606
Abstract: The universal work stand is a device that is useful for holding a pistol or other small items to assist the user in cleaning, assembly and repair. The device is mounted to any relatively flat surface. Once the device is secure to that surface the pivoting ball can accept a plurality of work piece holders such as a firearm holder, a fly tying vise, a reel vise (for holding fishing reels), fishing rod holder, pistol barrel holder or any other vise configuration that will hold a work piece. The unique pivoting ball allows for the manipulation of the ball to aid in the worker in placing the work at various angles. The ball lock is a standard locking mechanism and is also available with a quick release that can be adjusted with one hand while the other hand securely moves the work piece or the holder.

  • Patent number: RE42060
Abstract: Couplers with ball-shaped heads are mounted on a pair of objects, and a split arm assembly is interposed along a line of juncture between the pair of couplers and clamped together about the heads thereof. However, before that time, a spring is interposed between the pair of elongated arm sections in the assembly to produce a differential in the reaction of the respective pairs of end portions in the arm sections to the clamping forces so that the assembly is formed into a bifurcated arm assembly at one of the heads. That one head is also compressible so that after the split arm assembly has been rotated in relation to the one head, or vice versa, to set the angle of the line of juncture with respect to one or both of the objects, further clamping of the assembly operates to interlock the assembly with the heads of the pair of couplers to rigidify the connection made by the assembly between the pair of heads.
