  • Patent number: 4529160
Abstract: Three or more vertical posts or decorative support members are connected to the ends of three or more articulable, serially connected linkage members by a base support pin or member proximate the bottom end of each of the vertical posts through the holes in the ends of the linkage members. The linkage members are disposed parallel to the supporting surface having their free and overlapping ends connected between the bottom end of the vertical post and the base support pin. The vertical posts are each provided with a receptacle for holding a decorative or utilitarian object proximate the top thereof. The vertical posts can be of various lengths to achieve a variety of decorative effects. The linkage members are arranged at an angle to each other to provide 3 or more points of support for the assembled structure.

  • Patent number: 4323133
Abstract: A folding framework for a wheelchair has side frames interconnected by front and rear toggle braces each preferably formed from a pair of U-shaped arms of spring wire and a linkage extends between the hinges of the toggle braces. A securing arm is latchable with the linkage to hold the structure in an erected condition, the arrangement being such that the side frames are maintained parallel to one another. Direct drive motors may be mounted on wheels and to facilitate folding the hinges of the toggle brace may be offset relative to the fore and aft line of the vehicle so that when folded the side frames are offset relative to one another and the motors overlap. Preferably a diagonal brace extends below the folding framework to maintain parallel alignment of the side frames and a latching arm co-operates with the linkage between the toggle braces so that on lifting the latching arm, the linkage and the toggle braces are displaced in the closing direction.

  • Patent number: 4245849
Abstract: A collapsible support structure for supporting items, such as chair backs. The support structure, in an erect position, has two vertical members interconnected at their bottoms by a collapsible, preferably horizontal, member. Each end of the horizontal member is also pivotally connected to the other vertical member by a diagonal support member that extends between each end of the horizontal member and an upper portion of the opposite vertical member. When the structure is erect, the diagonal support members form an "X". Stiffening members, which are preferably generally vertical, are spaced from the vertical members and extend between the horizontal member and the diagonal support members. Both the horizontal member and the diagonal support members are formed of a plurality of pivotally interconnected links, at least one of which is modified to maintain the links in a desired angular position when the support structure is erected.

  • Patent number: 4232897
Abstract: A foldable chair frame formed by elongate rigid members which are interpivotted and foldable into a compact bundle of elements. The rigid members include a base formed by a laterally collapsible X-frame, two back members, two lower brace members connected to two upper brace members by knuckle joints, two seat support members and two upwardly extending back rest members. The invention resides in the provision of a laterally collapsible bracing frame located at the lower end of the back members adjacent the X-frame and arranged to be locked to hold the chair in the unfoldable (usable) position while permitting the back rest members to be moved between a forward position, suitable for a person sitting in the chair, to a backward position, suitable for a person reclining in the chair.

  • Patent number: 4192480
Abstract: A foldable stand for a bassinet or the like has four upright legs in a rectangular configuration when unfolded. At each end of the stand, the legs are rigidly interconnected by a horizontal bar supporting the corresponding end of the bassinet. Above the support bars at opposite ends of the stand, opposed U-shaped guard rails are pivotally mounted to the tops of the legs such that when deployed the guard rails bracket the lower ends of the bassinet. A diagonal cross brace is pivotally connected at one end to a point near the bottom of each leg and at the other end to the end of the U-shaped guard rail which is connected to the top of the corresponding leg on the same side of the stand. There are four such cross braces, two of which crisscross on each side of the stand and are pivotally interconnected like scissors so that the two end pairs of legs can be collapsed toward each other while remaining parallel as the cross braces close and the guard rails tip upright.

  • Patent number: 3968991
Abstract: A collapsible volume frame, when erected, presents in each of two opposite side elevations a side space frame defined by four points which if joined would form a quadrilateral; and presents further space frames in the four other aspects. The side space frames are braced by at least one frame element disposed transversely and articulated to them in a triangulated manner. Releasable means resist collapse of the volume frame. These side and further space frames are foldable so that the volume frame when collapsed forms a bundle.
