Including Means To Expand Or Contract Core Patents (Class 249/178)
  • Patent number: 5139404
Abstract: An apparatus for making concrete pipe having vinyl liners. An expandable core is used to hold a tubular vinyl liner. The core has over-center latches which lock the core in an expanded position to hold the liner against the outside surface of the core. The core is a flexible and expandable shell which can be deformed by a forming module into an exact desired shape prior to placing concrete arount the liner and the core. The liner and core are inserted along with a reinforcing cage into a dry-cast concrete form. Then the form is placed over the module and the module is actuated into engagement with the inside surface of the core. The module has a series of disc assemblies, each of which has a plurality of radially moveable shoes capable of being moved to expanded and retracted positions. The form is filled and immediately taken off the module.

  • Patent number: 5108282
Abstract: A CM block machine for casting masonry blocks includes a mold cavity formed between a mold box and a mold core containing one or more plungers selectively extending laterally into the cavity along a second axis which is normal to the axis of casting so as to form openings extending through portions of the block in the direction of the second axis. The plunger(s) is disposed in a cartridge housing contained within the mold core. An oversized vibrating ring wiper mounted in the cartridge housing engages the external periphery of the plunger to prevent CM material from entering the cartridge during plunger retraction. The plunger includes an annular relief chamber formed in a side wall thereof to provide an additional volume of air from within the cartridge to an air passage communicating with the plunger end face to prevent vacuum from impeding plunger retraction.

  • Patent number: 4996013
Abstract: An inner mold construction and an outer mold construction are provided to define a mold cavity or shape into which wet or uncured concrete is introduced. The method includes the sequential steps of compressing the concrete by movement of the inner mold relatively toward the outer mold to remove surplus liquid from the inner surface of the concrete so that the concrete is at least partially cured. The compression applied on the inner surface of the concrete by the inner mold is maintained while inward pressure is applied over the outer surface of the concrete by the outer mold to remove surplus surface liquid from the outer surface of the concrete. The inner and outer surface pressures on the concrete are released to release the molded article from the mold so that it may be separated therefrom.

The outer core members define first and second ends corresponding in position to the first and second ends of the inner core member, with the outer core members tapering inwardly in transverse dimension from their second to their first ends to provide an opposite taper to that of the inner core member. The mold core is of lesser transverse diameter in the second sliding position than in the first sliding position. This permits the molding of an object such as a straight-walled bucket having an inwardly-projecting lip about the mold core while it occupies the first sliding position.

  • Patent number: 4258897
Abstract: A method and structure in which a Y- or V-shaped trench is dug in the ground for spatially receiving a smaller, complentarily shaped form that is supported in the trench by re-enforcing rods or the like that remain in the set-up concrete when the form is removed. The form has retractible side walls to facilitate removal from the finished trough and further includes removable gutter and drain means that are left as integral parts of the trough when the form is removed.

  • Patent number: 4230298
Abstract: Apparatus for the preparation of hollow plastic articles wherein a more rapid operating cycle is obtained with less effect upon the temperature of the parison. The apparatus includes a first core, means for providing a parison thereon, a temperature controlled first mold engageable with said first core and parison, means for separating the first core from the first mold and parison contained therein, a second core in spaced relationship to the first core, means for transferring the parison to the second core, a blow mold in spaced relationship to said first mold for fully expanding the parison and means for transferring the second core and parison to the blow mold, wherein the blow mold is stationary and the second core with parison thereon is brought into alignment with the blow mold and is inserted therein.

  • Patent number: 4180233
Abstract: A building construction system uses a mold set up at a construction site so that the external part of the mold is spaced clear of the internal part. Building elements including those which are functional in the construction operation are arranged around the internal mold part. Such functional elements include connecting rod anchorages around the lower region of the mold, and the like. The external mold part is moved into position near the internal mold part, and the mold is filled to form a casting. A lifting frame is arranged over the mold and adjustably connected to the connecting rods. Then the external mold part is moved away to release the casting, and the frame is lifted to raise the casting up over the mold for movement to a building site near the construction site.

  • Patent number: 4130264
Abstract: An expandable core for forming an internal recess in a molded part, composed of a stationary core pin having a generally conical outer surface and a segmented sleeve composed of two groups of lateral slides disposed around the pin with the slides of one group alternating with the slides of the other group. The conicity of the pin outer surface and the slide guidance along the pin are identical for all slides of the same group but are different from one group to the other.

  • Patent number: 4102623
Abstract: A device and method for forming an annular raised rib on a tubular member includes a mandrel having a primary portion which has a secondary portion slidably mounted on the outer end thereof. The inner end of the primary mandrel carried by a base. An expandle ring is carried by the secondary mandrel and the outer end of the primary mandrel. Further included is a movable die with means for moving the die to and upon the primary mandrel. The secondary mandrel is formed with an annular frusto-conical ramp for expanding the ring radially outwardly thereof which forces the wall of the tubular member outwardly thereby forming an annular raised rib on a tube of plastic mounted on the mandrels when the secondary mandrel is moved to and upon the primary mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4034956
Abstract: A collapsible crypt form comprises an elongate rigid upper wall and two depending elongate rigid side walls joined at their adjacent margins by elongate rounded strips of resilient sheet material. Actuating means are connected to reinforcing rails at the lower edges of the side walls to extend them away from each other to operating position and retract them toward each other to reduce the effective height and width of the form for release from a finished recess. A back plate is held against the aft end of the body to prevent entry of flowable concrete and is disconnected from the body and removed from the recess after the body has been removed. A plurality of forms are placed in side by side spaced relation on a concrete slab with their forward ends in alignment with the forward edge of the slab and form plates are secured to the forms, locking them together and preventing loss of concrete.
