The base takes the form of a concrete annulus having a right-triangular cross section and an inner diameter dimensioned freely to receive a frusto-conical refuse can having a base diameter within a range of predetermined diameters. The inner cylindrical surface and the outer frusto-conical surface of the toroid smoothly are joined in a substantially rounded way. In use, and in the presence of lateral forces incident upon the installed refuse can, e.g. crosswinds, the base and the can cooperate by the impingement of their inner and outer surfaces to resist the tendency of the refuse can to tip and spill its contents. The gasket and window assembly can then be mounted and secured directly to vehicle body panel opening, for example, with adhesives, thereby eliminating the need for discrete mechanical fasteners. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, an improved aftermixer and gating apparatus includes a mixing body in which a flowable multi-constituent molding material is separated into a number of generally serpentine mixing passageways and reunited in a common mixing cavity before being conveyed through a fan-gate passageway to the mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 4643863
Abstract: The process provides for depositing, on a non-adhesive support, a thread of a fluid material for gasket manufacture from a nozzle that is displaced above the support along a path coinciding with the gasket layout, with subsequent curing of the fluid material. According to the invention, a stiff, wirelike reinforcement is placed on the support before deposition, the reinforcement corresponding in shape to the outline of the gasket that is to be manufactured, and having an adhesive surface with respect to the fluid material of the gasket, so that the subsequently deposited thread of fluid material incorporates the reinforcement and becomes bonded to it. The invention also relates to the product obtained by the process.

  • Patent number: 4643864
Abstract: A thread of a fluid material for gasket manufacture is deposited onto a non-planar, non-adhesive support sheet (12) from a nozzle (22) that is displaced above the support along a path corresponding to the outline of the gasket, with subsequent curing of the fluid material. The support sheet is prepared by pressing sheet material into a tridimensional shape whereby its surface contains the non-planar outline of the gasket to be manufactured; the shaped support is positioned with respect to a nozzle carried by a manipulator (20) capable of being controlled to move the nozzle with respect to the support along three independent spatial coordinates; and the nozzle is fed with said fluid material while being displaced along said non-planar outline. Preferably, the support sheet is kept flattened by vacuum against an underlying, matching surface.

  • Patent number: 4519567
Abstract: A mold for manufacturing an annular object of elastic material such as a sealing ring having a reinforcing element which is completely or partially embedded therein, comprising support surfaces on pin members supported by the mold and projecting into the mold cavity which support and retain the reinforcing element in the correct position within the mold during injection of the elastic material to be formed within the mold cavity. The pin and the mold cavity have opposing surfaces which guide the inserted reinforcing element into the correct position prior to injection of the elastic material. The mold is made in separate parts so that the parts can be removed after the elastic material has set, to open the cavity for removal of the finished product with the reinforcing element embedded therein.

  • Patent number: 4458875
Abstract: The apparatus consists of a vessel that is transparent to microwaves, an inner coating of material that is heated by microwaves and a coating inside that that will reflect microwaves. In use the user allows his mold substance to set in the ordinary way. When he desires to release his moldable from the molded substance he applies microwaves to the outside of the vessel. The waves pass through the outer transparent wall and heat the inner coating. Conductivity of heat causes the surface of the molded object to be heated, to liquefy and release from the mold. The innermost layer of reflective substance prevents the microwaves from penetrating into the molded object and heating the whole molded object. What is new is an apparatus that will permit the user to quickly and conveniently release a molded object from a mold without any risk that he will heat and destroy portions of the molded object.

  • Patent number: 4241492
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method of manufacture of valve seats which comprises forming a series of vertically stacked molds each having at least one mold cavity with a configuration approximating that of a ring-shaped valve seat insert blank. After the molds are formed, they are stacked and the cavities are connected by a common molten metal passageway in such a way that the passageway connects with an axially facing outer surface of each mold cavity to provide a lap gating relationship. Molten metal is then poured into the lap gated passageway to form a series of valve seat insert blanks each having a gate formed on an axially outer face. The blanks are then removed from the molds. Various grinding operations are then applied to the blanks and the axially outer-facing surfaces of the blanks are ground to remove the gates to form valve seats for use in internal combustion engines.
