Rail Or Railway Type Preform Patents (Class 249/86)
  • Patent number: 4389015
Abstract: The invention concerns a corrugation-free rail for track-bound vehicles. In the invention, the rail comprises a metallic material in the area of the travel and/or guide surfaces of which the stress limit or yield point is above the wheel-induced compression. Preferably, the rail in the area of the travel and/or guide surfaces is composed of a non-work-hardenable material. The preferred material composition is (by weight):______________________________________ carbon 0.2 to 0.4% chromium 13 to 18% molybdenum 0.3 to 1.5% manganese 0.5 to 1.5% silicon 0.3 to 1% remainder is iron.

  • Patent number: 4290991
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing for a railway switch-point concrete sleeper blocks (15') of varying lengths and having different number of attachment means (15'b) located in mutually different positions for the attachment of rails to said blocks there is used a plurality of steel matrices (2) whose respective lengths correspond to the desired lengths of the various sleeper blocks and which exhibit detachably mounted dowels (3). The matrices are placed end to end in an elongate mould bed with the dowels facing upwardly, whereafter reinforcing lines (5) are tensioned and concrete is cast into the mould bed and permitted to harden. The thus formed coherent concrete body (15), whose length may exceed 30 meters, is then removed from the mould and the matrices (2) removed and the dowels (3) remaining cast in the concrete block. The concrete body (15) is then cut into sleeper blocks (15') of desired length.

  • Patent number: 4250944
Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in the process for performing aluminothermic rail connection weldings, in which the rail ends to be welded together and being laid with a gap are enclosed with a fireproof, prefabricated casting mold producing a weld reinforcement covering the gap, and aluminothermically-produced steel is poured into the casting mold cavity, the improvement comprising pouring the steel melt into the casting mold in the form of at least two separate casting streams positioned opposite each other in the longitudinal rail direction, whereby the casting streams are so guided that they will intermix approximately in the area of the rail head center of the two rails to be welded together. The invention also relates to a casting mold for performing the process.

  • Patent number: 4247074
Abstract: This invention relates to a prefabricated casting mold for aluminothermically welding rail ends spaced apart by a gap while simultaneously welding shut a fishplate hole in the region of each rail end, comprising two mold halves which, when assembled, form a cavity adapted to enclose the rail ends and being so widened in the region of the rail web and in the longitudinal direction of the rails that the two fishplate holes are located within the cavity, a pair of riser channels in each mold half, at least one of the riser channels in each half issuing centrally into the rail base region of the casting mold cavity and having at least one means of communication with the casting mold cavity in the rail web region, and the other of the riser channels in each mold half communicating with the casting mold cavity in the vicinity of a fishplate hole.

  • Patent number: 4204660
Abstract: Apparatus for molding rail ties of the type which include one or more fastening devices embedded in the concrete of the type having a shoe plate which rests on the tie and a projecting tab part, the mold having plates, which are preferably removable inserts, for accepting the shoe portion of the device, and flexible jaws which engage the projecting tab part to align it with respect to the mold.

  • Patent number: 4190228
Abstract: A mould for use in a metallothermic welding process of at least two metal items together comprises at least two parts for arrangement around butts of each of the metal items to define a pouring cavity which is adapted to receive hot welding fluid. At least one of the faces of the mould, which in use will contact either a part of one of the items to be welded or another portion of the mould, defines a projection which presents sloping side towards the exterior of the pouring cavity. A strip of a compressible material which is little affected by heat is fitted on the projection in order to abut said part of one of the items or the other portion of the mould.

  • Patent number: 4185773
Abstract: Method of manufacturing steel components containing 12 to 14% by weight of manganese having an austenitic structure, said parts being provided with steel end pieces having a mainly austenitic structure permitting their junction by welding to components made of any desired alloy, wherein, before applying thermal treatment, said end pieces are cast into moulds disposed directly at the ends of said manganese steel components. The ends of the manganese steel component are shaped and the end pieces are subsequently cast thereon in such a manner that each end of the part comprises a front surface inclined about a transverse horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 4102957
Abstract: A continuous piece of concrete is first cast in an elongated casting mould mounted on a prestressing bench; after transfer of the prestressing force to the hardened concrete, the continuous piece of concrete is cut into a series of sections, each containing a certain number of railway ties. These sections are then removed from the casting mould, placed on a roller conveyor and then brought to a second cutting station where they are cut to form individual units. The invention also concerns a novel construction of a casting mould for the specific manufacture of such tie.

  • Patent number: 4038355
Abstract: A method of moulding concrete ties in a series of open ended multi-cavity moulds which are arranged to have corresponding cavities aligned, and comprises positioning reinforcing wires in the aligned cavities and straining the wires, positioning spacers between adjacent ends of adjacent moulds and between the wires, filling the moulds with wet concrete to surround the wires, removing the spacers after the concrete has set and releasing the tension on the wires, severing the wires between adjacent moulds, coupling a tilt frame to one side of a mould frame and a base frame, the tilt frame comprising a pivot having a longitudinal axis, and lifting the other side of the mould frame to thereby pivot the mould frame about the longitudinal axis, lowering the mould frame to invert it and discharging the ties from the inverted moulds.
