Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining an eye gaze direction of a user through one or more non-contact capacitive sensors. For at least some embodiments, a differential capacitance associated with a users' eye may be determined through at least one of the non-contact capacitive sensors. The differential capacitance may be based on capacitance measurements associated with the users' eye performed at different times. The eye gaze direction may be based, at least in part, on the determined differential capacitance. For some embodiments, two or more non-contact capacitive sensors may be positioned along an axis. Differential capacitance measurements from the two or more non-contact capacitive sensors may determine the eye gaze direction with respect to the axis.

Abstract: A distance measuring device that can identify a reflected wave by a target object as a measurement target from among reflected waves when the reflected waves are observed in response to one output wave. The device transmits an output wave plural times from a speaker while moving, and acquires waveform data of a sound wave that is received by a microphone every time the output wave is transmitted and includes plural reflected waves caused by reflection of the output wave. Furthermore, the distance measuring device identifies a reflected wave by the target object as the measurement target from among the plural reflected waves according to change in the reception timing of each of the plurality of reflected waves included in each of plural pieces of the acquired waveform data, and calculates the distance to the target object on the basis of the reception timing of the identified reflected wave.

Abstract: To decrease the likelihood of a false detection when detecting light from light pulses scattered by remote targets in a lidar system, a receiver in the lidar system includes a photodetector and a pulse-detection circuit having a gain circuit with a varying amount of gain over time. The gain circuit operates in a low-gain mode for a time period T1 beginning with time t0 when a light pulse is emitted to prevent the receiver from detecting return light pulses during the threshold time period T1. Upon expiration of the threshold time period T1, the gain circuit operates in a high-gain mode to begin detecting return light pulses until a subsequent light pulse is emitted.

Abstract: A radar system for a vehicle includes a transmitter, a receiver, and an interference mitigator. The transmitter transmits radio signals. The receiver receives radio signals. The received radio signals include transmitted radio signals reflected from objects. The receiver also processes the received radio signals to produce a sample stream. The interference mitigator successively (i) generates respective signals corresponding to the transmitted radio signals that are reflected from each of a plurality of objects, and (ii) adds the respective signals to the sample stream to form a modified sample stream. The addition of the respective signals removes interference from the sample stream due to the transmitted radio signals reflected from the plurality of objects. The receiver is configured to use the modified sample stream to detect a first object at a first range which is more distant than respective ranges of the plurality of objects.
