  • Patent number: 11221396
Abstract: In a method for generating a transillumination signal of a section of the subsurface, an HPEM radiation source radiates an electromagnetic pulse into the section for the purpose of exciting electromagnetically reactive structures to emit an electromagnetic response signal. For the pulse, a pulse duration of at most 500 ns, a center frequency in the range between 10 MHz and 10 GHz, and a bandwidth in the range from 10% to 150% of the center frequency is set. The transillumination signal is formed as the sum of response signals received at a measuring location. In a method for detecting a cavity in the subsurface, the above method is carried out, and the structures are detected from the transillumination signal with the aid of a detection method, and the cavity is detected if the structures satisfy a detection criterion.

Abstract: A method for determining an amount of charge uses a capacitive structure which has an electrode device, a dielectric material with a voltage-dependent permittivity, and a counter-electrode device. The method has an adjusting step, an applying step, and a detecting step. In the adjusting step, an electric reference potential is adjusted between the electrode device and the counter-electrode device in order to adjust a reference capacity. In the applying step, an electrical potential resulting from the amount of charge is applied in addition to the reference potential in order to obtain a resulting capacity. In the detecting step, a capacity change is detected between the reference capacity and the resulting capacity in order to determine the amount of charge.

  • Patent number: 11005188
Abstract: Antenna systems are described which provide means of mitigating the undesirable transmission line effect(s) by using fractal metamaterials in close proximity to an antenna, with both the antenna and fractal metamaterials being positioned a conductive surface, which may be inside or adjacent to a cavity. The fractal metamaterial can include an array of close spaced (e.g., less than 1/10 wavelength separation) resonant structures of a fractal shape, resonant at or near the intended frequency of use of the antenna. The fractal metamaterial can reverse the phase of the reflected wave so that the metal cavity no longer produces an out of phase current induced by the antenna. Without the cavity being out of phase to the antenna, the transmission line effect is mitigated substantially and the antenna performance can accordingly be enhanced. Further embodiments omit a cavity and locate a fractal metamaterial and antenna(s) adjacent to an underlying conductive surface.

  • Patent number: 7102755
Abstract: A method determines power of a modulated signal that is applied to a wavelength meter by summing bin values within a designated bin range of a frequency transformed interferogram representing the modulated signal and provided by the wavelength meter. In a first embodiment of the method, the bin range within which the bin values are summed is designated by mapping a series of signal characteristics indicative of the types of the modulated signals applied to the wavelength meter, to a series of bin spans within the frequency transformed interferograms that represent the modulated signals. The method then enables a selection of a signal characteristic from the series of signal characteristics to identify the modulated signal that is applied to the wavelength meter.

Abstract: Methods and systems for dynamic virtual convergence (218) and a video see through head mountable display (200) that uses dynamic virtual convergence are disclosed. A dynamic virtual convergence algorithm (218) includes sampling an image with two cameras. The cameras each have a field of view that is larger than a field of view of displays used to display images sampled by the cameras (210). A heuristic is used to estimate the gaze distance of the viewer. The display frustums are transformed so that they converge at the estimated gaze distance. The images sampled by the cameras (210) are then reprojected into the transformed display frustums. The reprojected images are displayed to the user to simulate viewing of close range objects.
