Abstract: A scanning apparatus for scanning a sheet as the sheet is transported in a substantially vertical transport direction. The scanning apparatus includes a scan housing; first, second, and third couplings; and a transport apparatus. The scan housing supports an optical scanning apparatus. The second and third couplings allow at least two degrees of rotation of the scan housing with respect to a horizontal axis and constrain movement of the scan housing in a substantially vertical transport direction. The transport apparatus is coupled to the scan housing for guiding the sheet past the scan housing in the substantially vertical transport direction.

Abstract: A storage phosphor cassette for use in recording radiographic images of elongated objects. The cassette comprises a shell and a single storage phosphor plate. The shell includes first and second opposite open ends. The single storage phosphor plate is housed within the shell and is adapted to be at least partially removable from the shell through the first and second open ends. A radiation image of the elongate object can be read by extracting a first portion of the single plate through one of the two opposing ends of the cassette and scanning the first portion of the single storage phosphor plate to obtain a first partial image, and then extracting a second portion of the single plate through the other of the two opposing ends of the cassette and scanning the second portion of the single storage phosphor plate to obtain a second partial image. The first and second partial images can be combined to form the image of the elongate object.

Abstract: After a housing of a cassette is opened by a suction cup, then a stimulable phosphor sheet is removed from the cassette by a shiftable roller and then fed in an auxiliary scanning direction by a feed mechanism. While being fed in the auxiliary scanning direction, the stimulable phosphor sheet is irradiated with a laser beam emitted from a stimulating optical system.
