  • Patent number: 8852443
Abstract: Various “no filter, no run” fuel filtration designs are described that include a variable restriction orifice (VRO) designed to vary the amount of fluid, for example fuel, that reaches a fluid outlet. The VRO has a fully open position at which a maximum non-zero fluid flow is permitted, and a fully closed position at which a limited amount of fluid can flow to the outlet. In the case of diesel fuel, the amount of fuel flow permitted at the fully closed position provides lubrication of downstream fuel system components, for example the fuel pump, but is insufficient to permit engine operation.

  • Patent number: 8444112
Abstract: A locking Y-valve has branches that can be independently locked open or locked closed. Each branch has a ball valve connected to a rotating valve column. The valve column extends through a lock plate and attaches to a housing that contains a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism has a retractable lock pin that cooperates with two recesses in the lock plate to keep the housing, valve column, and ball valve locked in place. The locking mechanism is attached to a rotatable handle outside the housing. Rotating the handle retracts the lock pin from a recess so that the handle can be moved. Releasing the handle extends the lock pin into a recess, securing the handle in place. One or more of the lock plate and housing may be integral with the Y-valve. In the preferred embodiment, the lock plate is configured to be retrofit onto existing Y-valves, so that a non-lockable Y-valve may be converted into a lockable Y-valve.

  • Publication number: 20090045362
Abstract: A mechanism used for locking a valve that provides positive control of the valve lock to prevent the valve from changing position unintentionally is disclosed. The positive locking valve control device preferably includes a housing with a handle and a linkage extending therefrom. A main gear inside the housing is disposed about a shaft which is positionally fixed outside of the housing. The main gear is releasably intermeshed with a locking gear controlled by the handle. Squeezing the handle separates the gear and allows angular movement of the handle which corresponds to movement of the linkage. The linkage is connected to a valve actuator or valve stem and the position of the valve may be adjusted in this manner. Springs in the handle cause the main gear and locking gear return to a locked position when the handle is released. Accordingly, the valve cannot drift or be bumped out of position when the handle is released.

A conical coil spring is provided to urge the operation lever upward by its torsional action and the stop as well as the pivot shaft toward the resting position of the stop by its compressive action. A receiving chamber is formed in the operation lever at a position where it coincides with the stop when the stop is moved to the operating position by the depressing of the pivot shaft. When, in this state, the operation lever is pushed downward to cause the stop to enter the receiving chamber, the valve stem is lowered and the operation of the pneumatic tool starts.

Abstract: A portable machine for carbonating liquid contained in a bottle is adapted to support the bottle (5) by the neck (81) through a bayonet connection and for a seal (64) which closes the bottle neck to be driven into engagement with the bottle neck by a piston (60) actuated by the first burst of gas supplied to the injection nozzle (66). The bottle is loaded into the machine through a front opening (6) and a cover (7) for closing the opening is interlocked with a gas supply valve (12) so that gas can only be delivered to the nozzle (66) when the cover is closed. The cover is opened and closed by rotating a knob (23) which is depressed to open the gas valve. The knob (23) is coupled to the gas valve (12) through a device (27) which prevents the valve being opened if the machine is tilted at more than a given angle to the upright position.

Abstract: A spring-locking handle mechanism in which a flat piece of spring stock is formed in a generally U-shaped configuration to provide a locking spring, one leg of which bears against the underside of the socket portion of a conventional two-piece locking handle, and the other leg of which bears downwardly on the upper surface of the handle portion. The spring legs must be spread apart in order to assemble the spring with the handle mechanism and are thus normally under tension, so that the handle portion is biased in its downward or locking position relative to the socket portion to discourage unintentional lifting. The width of the one leg corresponds to the distance between the depending locking lugs on the handle portion so as to fit snugly therebetween in both the locked and unlocked position of the handle.

  • Patent number: 4305421
Abstract: A system for dispensing fluid from a container. The container is pressurized by supplying gas into the container thereby forcing the fluid out of the container through a siphon tube and an outlet valve in the container. The system utilizes a valve assembly having two valves, one for enabling the flow of the gas into the container and the second for allowing the flow of the fluid out of the container. The valve assembly is mounted in a neck member that is secured to an opening in one of the walls of the container. Arranged within the neck is a deformable seal that is compressed between a body portion of the valve assembly and an inner surface of the neck member. A non-threaded retaining ring holds the valve body portion of the valve assembly within the neck member and serves to apply the force to the valve body portion for compressing the seal.
