Abstract: Certain thermoplastic additives that induce simultaneous low clarity and high nucleation efficacy are provided. Such additives include combinations of certain bicyclic salts (which by themselves induce very high nucleation efficacy) and certain benzylidene sorbitol acetals and derivatives (hereinafter collectively referred to as “DBSs”)(which alone provide very low haze measurements and thus highly desirable clarity characteristics). In comparison, other types of standard thermoplastic nucleators, such as sodium benzoate and sodium 2,2′-methylene-bis-(4,6-di-tert-butylphenyl)phosphate provide relatively high peak crystallization temperatures, but do not combine synergistically with DBSs to provide the same results as for the inventive combination of bicyclic salts and DBSs.
Abstract: The claimed invention relates to a process for preparing an aqueous formaldehyde solution comprising absorbing a formaldehyde-loaded gas stream, in an absorption zone, in an aqueous solution comprising from 0.000% to 0.01% by weight of a Bronsted base, based on the formaldehyde absorbed. The produced aqueous formaldehyde solution comprises: a) from 10 to 75% by weight of formaldehyde, b) from 0 to 500 ppm by weight of tetroxane, c) from 50 to 400 ppm by weight of formic acid, based on the formaldehyde absorbed, and d) from 0.2 to 5.0% by weight of methanol, based on the formaldehyde absorbed.
Abstract: A method for making a polyurea coating by: (a) coating a substrate with a coating composition containing effective coating-forming amounts of (i) a polyisocyanate component, and (ii) an polyaspartic ester mixture. The invention also relates to the coatings made by the method, the polyaspartic ester mixtures used to make the coatings, and methods to make the mixtures.
Abstract: A sampling material for a carbonyl compound in a gas comprising a reagent capable of converting a carbonyl compound to a derivative thereof supported on a cation exchanger; and a sampling cartridge for a carbonyl compound in a gas wherein a sampling material for a carbonyl compound in a gas comprising a reagent capable of converting a carbonyl compound to a derivative thereof supported on a cation exchanger is packed in a column are provided. The sampling cartridge can be used for analyzing a carbonyl compound such as formaldehyde with ease and at a high sensitivity and high accuracy, and has excellent storage stability.
Abstract: In a compound of the formula I
(reactive polymer), L is a, polymer, XY is a reactive radical which is inert toward NCO groups and splits off one or more protective groups Y under acidic, neutral or basic conditions and the radical X bears, after Y has been split off, at least two groups which are reactive toward isocyanates. Also provided are processes for preparing such a polymer and for preparing V a polymer polyol which is obtainable by reacting a polymer of the formula I with an acid or base. A polymer polyol as is obtainable by treatment of a reactive polymer according to the present invention in the neutral, acidic or basic range can be used to produce a polyaddition product or polycondensation product.

Abstract: The rate of aminolysis of butyrolactones is predictably adjusted by attaching a substituent having a known field effect value (F) to the alpha position before reacting the substituted buytrolactone with an amine. The aminolysis product is a gamma-hydroxy amide. The resulting materials are useful as the cross-linking agents in a variety of coatings and coatings processes.
Abstract: Polyfunctional polymerizable urethane- or urea-containing oligomers allow the design, adjustment, and regulation of chemical and physical properties of the described oligomers. The invention discloses the formulas and compositions of these oligomers, methods of their synthesis, and methods of converting the described oligomers into useful polymeric products. The described oligomers can be used for many purposes, both directly and in combination with other chemicals in multiple applications such as adhesives, sealants, coatings, composites, etc., as well as in castable and moldable materials.

Abstract: Rubber and plastic accelerator formulations of the present invention are directed to formulations containing an accelerator compound comprised of an organic-based quaternary ammonium salt. Preferably, the accelerator compound of the present invention is comprised of a quaternary ammonium salt selected from the group consisting of trimethylbetahydroxyethyl ammonium hydroxide (TMBHEAH), carboxymethyltrimethyl ammonium hydroxide (CMTAH), methylallylbenzylphenol ammonium iodide, benzyltriethyl ammonium chloride, hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium chloride imidazolium compounds. As particularly preferred embodiments, the accelerator formulations are comprised of a choline based compound comprised of trimethylbetahydroxyethyl ammonium hydroxide and/or of a betaine compound comprised of carboxymethyltrimethyl ammonium hydroxide.
Abstract: Amine-terminated urethane oligomer compositions are described that include very high oligomer concentrations. The compositions are melts of the amine-terminated oligomers. The compositions can include one or more property modifiers. The compositions are useful in the formation of crosslinked copolymers, especially with epoxy resins. Abstract: Provided herein are subcombinations from which polyurethane foams and polyurethane foams containing polyisocyanurates may be prepared. The subcombinations are unique in that they contain components which synergistically act towards promoting compatibility between a blowing agent and the remaining components of the formulation. Through the use of the teachings herein, blowing agent concentrations in excess of 25% by weight of the total subcombination may be incorporated.
