The polyester polymer compositions may also contain phosphorus catalyst deactivators/stabilizers. The polyester compositions and the articles made from the compositions such as bottle preforms and stretch blow molded bottles have improved reheat rate while maintaining low haze, high L*, a b* below 3, and have low levels of acetaldehyde. In the process for making the polyester polymer, the polymer melt is polycondensed in the presence of a) and b), with the particles c) added in a melt phase process or added to the polymer in an injection molding machine or extruder.

Abstract: Halogen-containing polymer compositions comprising a latent mercaptan-containing heat stabilizer composition substantially free from the offensive odor typically associated with mercaptans are protected during processing by the degradation products of the latent (i.e., blocked) mercaptan which include a free mercaptan. Other products of the degradation are believed to include carbocations of the blocking moiety which are stabilized by a molecular structure in which the electron deficiency is shared by several groups. The latent mercaptan may be the sole heat stabilizer additive but the free mercaptan released during processing may also synergize the activity of metal-based heat stabilizers such as metal salts and organometallic stabilizers such as organotin carboxylates and mercaptides in the polymer composition. The odor of primary mercaptan-containing heat stabilizers in halogenated polymer compositions is masked by a small amount of a latent mercaptan.

Abstract: The invention relates to stabilizer systems, containing at least: a) a perchlorate salt; b) at least one or more compounds from the group consisting of carbamides, indole derivatives and enamines of formula (I), wherein n=1 or 2 and X=O or NR1; n=3–6 and X=O; R1=H, C1–C4-alkyl, C2–C6-alkenyl, C6–C10-aryl, C7–C18-alkaryl or C7–C18-aralkyl; R2 (if n=1)=C1–C22-alkyl, C2–C22-alkenyl or aryl, preferably phenyl, optionally substituted with up to 3 hydroxy, C1–C4-alkoxy or C1–C9-alkyl; or R2 (if n=2–6)=linear or branched C1-22-alkylene, optionally interrupted by one or more O or S atoms, wherein R2 (if n=3) can also be a C2–C3-alkyl trisubstituted isocyanurate; if X=NH R2 can also be H. Said stabilizer systems are suitable for stabilizing halogen-containing polymers, more particularly PVC.
Abstract: In this application is disclosed a resin additive composition which can by produced by precipitating a calix(n+m+l)arene represented by the following general formula (2) and in a dissolved state together with or at the same time at least one functional ingredient selected from the group consisting of various water-soluble or hydrophilic resin flam-retardants, resin thermal stabilizers and resin curing agents, and in a dissolved or suspended state. This resin additive composition has a good affinity for organic polymers such as polyolefin and the like, which allows the functional ingredient(s) to be dispersed homogeneously in the resin. Therefore are provided high-performance resin compositions comprising various functional ingredient(s).
Abstract: Flexible and semi-rigid vinyl chloride resin compositions comprising a combination of a latent mercaptan and a zinc salt of oxidized polyethylene (a zinc ionomer) as a heat stabilizer are substantially free from the offensive odor typically associated with mercaptans and are protected during processing by the degradation products of the latent mercaptan and the zinc ionomer. The oxidized polyethylene is split out from the ionomer to act as an adhesion promoter for aqueous inks and paints, and the residual zinc carboxylate functions as a co-stabilizer with the latent mercaptan in the composition. The latent mercaptan is exemplified by a 2-S-(tetrahydropyranyl)thioalkanol, a carboxylic acid ester thereof, a 2-S-(tetrahydropyranyl)-thiocarboxylic acid, an ester thereof, and the furanyl homologs of each.
Abstract: A stabilizer mixture containing A) either (A1) at least one compound of the formula in which R1 is for example hydrogen or C1–C8alkyl; R2, R3, R5 and R6 are for example hydrogen, C1–C30alkyl or phenyl; R4 is for example C1–C30alkyl or 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl; and n1 is a number from 1 to 50; or (A2) at least one compound of the formulae wherein n2 and n2* are a number from 2 to 50; B) magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide, zinc oxide, zinc hydroxide or an organic salt of zinc or magnesium; and C) either (C1) an UV absorber or (C2) a pigment or (C3) an UV absorber and a pigment; with the proviso that, when component A) is at least one compound of the formulae (IIIa) and (IIIb), component B) is magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide or an organic salt of zinc or magnesium. Such a stabilizer mixture is particularly useful for stabilizing a polyolefin against light-induced degradation.
