Abstract: A carpet-stretching apparatus, including a main frame to connect to at least a portion of a carpet as disposed on a surface, at least one carpet spike disposed on at least a portion of the main frame to be inserted into at least a portion of the carpet, such that at least a portion of the carpet moves in response to movement of at least a portion of the main frame, and a stretch bar manipulation assembly disposed on at least a portion of the main frame to move at least a portion of the main frame in response to a manipulation of the stretch bar manipulation assembly.

Abstract: One possible embodiment for the invention could be a carpet-anchoring carpet stretcher comprising a front telescopic portion, the front telescopic portion reversibly anchors only to a carpet and connects to a rear anchor portion, the front telescopic portion further comprises a stretching mechanism that lengthens the front telescopic portion; the rear anchor portion, the rear anchor portion having a base with two opposing ends, each opposing end pivotally connecting to one end of a respective anchor leg while the other end of the respective anchor leg reversibly anchors only to the carpet; wherein the stretching mechanism generates a rearward force to the rear anchoring portion that laterally redistributes a portion of the rearward force to otherwise prevent the creation of one or more wrinkles in a portion of the carpet located proximately between the anchoring legs.

Abstract: A carpet stretching tool comprised of a frame member and a head moving mechanism for attachment to the frame member to bias carpet towards a wall. The frame member of the invention comprises a pair of frame side members connected at one end by an engagement member, at the opposite end by a rear member and between the engagement member and the rear member, by a handle member. The head moving mechanism is attached to the rear frame member and comprises a carpet engaging head that is operable to extend and retract the head relative to the rear frame member and is permitted to slide laterally along the length of the rear frame member.

Abstract: An apparatus for installing carpeting, such apparatus comprises a substantially flat member having a plurality of teeth disposed on an underside thereof for biting into carpeting to be stretched. A handle member attached to such flat member on one end and to an elongated transmission means on another end. There is a connecting means that is engageable on one end to the handle and on the other end with the power transmission means for causing said power transmission means to force such apparatus to stretch such carpeting. The apparatus has an attachment means engageable with the transmission means on one end and with carpeting, wood or concrete on a second end for assisting in stretching such carpet when the apparatus is in use.

The carpet stretching tool is the type having a carpet engaging head, an elongate body, a tail section and a lever mechanism allowing extension of the elongate body. The tail section includes a first leg and a second leg, each leg having a wall running face. The legs may be selectively positioned between at least two positions. In one positions the wall running faces form a substantially flat surface allowing use of the tool down a wall section. In a second position the wall running faces on the first and second leg of the tool may be positioned at an angle to allow the tool to be used on corner locations within a room or on a post.

Abstract: A carpet seam clamping device for maintaining pre-positioned carpet sections abutted at a seam subsequent to removal of a carpet stretcher which prevents overlapping. The device employs a pair of planar surfaces which translate toward each other and lock in position once totally translated. The length of translation is equal to or less than the length of pins which engage into the carpet body thereby preventing overstretch.

Abstract: A power carpet kicker is disclosed. The power carpet kicker includes a main frame portion, having a head portion and a rear portion. The head portion of the main frame portion includes a grip mounted on the head portion to grip a section of carpet to be stretched. The rear portion of the main frame portion includes a cushion mounted to the rear portion to provide cushion to an operator's knee. The main frame portion includes a momentum creating device to produce linear force towards the head portion to stretch carpet.

Abstract: A compact carpet stretching apparatus may include a frame member, floor engagement members, and a head unit configured for use without extension poles. In one illustrative embodiment, the stretcher apparatus includes a head unit to engage a portion of a web of carpet, frame side members spaced laterally of the head unit that extend from the rear of the head unit past the front end of the head unit, and floor engaging anchors coupled to the frame side members proximal to the front portion.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a carpet installation combination tool consisting of a knee kicker unit with a stretcher adapter and a unique telescoping linked extension rod assembly that may be coupled to a removable stationary wall pressure attachment or a removable pivotal wall pressure attachment. An alternate embodiment will have a removable knee kicker pad attachment so that the stretcher adapter is not required. The knee kicker unit will incorporate an extendable lever arm to insert pressure on the head unit assembly while stretching the carpet for both the kicking operation and the stretching operation.

Abstract: A supplementary stretcher for laying carpet includes a flat head having a plurality of tines on the underside protected by a cap and lug on rear end, a hollow interior handle having a downward arcuate front end pivoted to the lug of the head, a detent means in cooperation with an elastic plate disposed in a rear end of the handle, a sliding bar slidably inserted into the rear end of the handle having a plurality of serrations on the underside engageable with a retaining frame of the detent means and a pushing plate combined with a soft plate on outer surface and an inverse U-shaped member on inner surface pivoted to the rear end of the sliding bar with a spring engaged therebetween. The feature is that the handle is lengthily adjustable, the flat head and the pushing plate may slant a certain angle to correspond with the ergonomics. Besides, the flat head may be replaced with a sucking disk.

Abstract: A kneeless kicking tool for stretching a carpet. A base rests on the carpet. A head is attached to the base and engages and stretches the carpet when an apparatus for propelling the head is activated. The apparatus includes a pair of rods that extend across the base and a ram. The ram has a body that slides on the pair of rods. When the ram is slid forwardly on the pair of rods and impacts upon the base, the head is caused to move forward and stretch the carpet. The ram further has a handle that extends from the body thereof and is grabbed by the hand of a user and used to slide the ram forwardly, and a weight that extends upwardly from the body thereof and which increases the impact of the ram on the base when the ram is slid forwardly on the pair of rods.

Abstract: A shock-absorbing carpet kicker for positioning and stretching carpet is disclosed. The carpet kicker includes an engaging head with forwardly-inclined pins for engaging carpet materials on a floor, a shaft connected to the engaging head and extending therefrom, a cushioned pad facing away from the engaging head and connected to the shaft a distance away from the engaging head, and a shock-absorbing device connected to the shaft and interposed between the engaging head and the cushioned pad. The shock-absorbing device comprises a resilient member preloaded against a collapsible tension member, whereby kicks to the cushioned pad are transmitted through the shock-absorbing device to the engaging head. The preloaded tension member permits a portion of the energy of each kick to be transmitted directly to the engaging head, while the resilient member absorbs excess energy of the kick.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for stretching a carpet includes the application of a downwardly directed actuation force on a foot-operated pedal actuator to generate a horizontally directed carpet stretching force. An extension arrangement included either fixed length and/or adjustable length truss members is used to anchor the carpet stretching apparatus.

Abstract: A portable carpet stretching device enabling a user to stretch carpeting at an angle into engagement with a tack strip affixed along the base of an adjacent wall, thus to eliminate wrinkles. The device has a carpet-engaging head member and a relatively fixed base member. The front of the base member is attached by an extensible member to the rear of the head member, and pivotally connected anchoring means are utilized for securing the base member in a desired relationship to the adjacent wall. Power applying means enable the user to force the head member and the base member apart, so the anchoring of the base member with respect to the adjacent wall by the anchoring means results at the time of application of the power means, in the portion of the carpet engaged by the head member being forced toward the adjacent wall and into contact with the tack strip. The anchoring means includes a pulling plate having a lower edge adapted to engage the tack strip.

Abstract: A carpet stretching assembly is disclosed which includes a ladder-type mounting structure engaged by releasable stretching member. The stretching member are actuated by a hydraulic ram or ratchet jack to engage the mounting structure and thereby apply force to stretch a carpet via a gripping head assembly which engages the carpet. The stretched carpet is held in its stretched condition by positioning carpet holding member to engage the mounting structure and grip the carpet by a gripping head assembly.

Abstract: A carpet stretching device using a power stretching adapter attached to a standard carpet kicker is provided. The stretching adapter is formed from a frame having an anchor plate attached to the front of the frame for anchoring the device between the wall and tack strip adjacent to the carpet edge to be stretched. A handle is provided which is pivotally attached along its lower portion to the back of the frame. A clamp is located at the bottom of the handle for attaching the handle to a standard carpet kicker adjacent to the head of the kicker, so that the head will be positioned between the anchor plate and the clamp. The device functions by placing the handle upright, placing the anchor between the wall and tack strip, engaging the carpet pile with the carpet kicker head, and pivoting the top of the handle down towards the knee pad of the carpet kicker, forcing the kicker head towards the anchor, thus stretching the carpet.

Abstract: In an improved carpet stretching tool characterized by an anchor assembly at the rear of the tubular member which includes a support body telescopingly received in the rear end of the tubular member and releasably fastened thereto, with an inclined socket arranged at an increased angle to accommodate thicker carpets. An elongated anchor member has a straight shank portion inserted into the socket and releasably fastened to the support body, an inclined portion turned down at a selected angle to the shank portion with a beveled section terminating in a point for piercing the carpet. The inclined portion is substantially closer to the vertical than the horizontal which together with the blunt beveled edges ensure a reliable anchor to the floor surface underlying the carpet.

Abstract: A locking mechanism for extendible telescoping tubular members formed with radial, axially aligned openings. The locking mechanism comprises a hollow housing that surrounds the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. The housing is adapted for movement in the axial direction of the telescoping tubular members along the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. Disposed within the housing is at least one spring loaded lever that pivots about a fulcrum in the housing. Fixed to the opposite end portions of the lever, respectively, are oppositely directed plungers. When the radial openings of the telescoping tubular members are in register, the locking plunger enters the registered openings to restrain axial displacement between the telescoping tubular members.

Abstract: A device for holding a conventional carpet stretcher and providing a tail block footing against a wall. The tail block is mounted on rollers and has a short tubular extension whereby one or more tubular extensions may be mounted thereon with the far terminal end being mounted against the conventional stretcher.

Abstract: A hand powered carpet stretcher is provided with the improvement of an anti-sway device to prevent lateral or transverse movement of the stretcher tubes during stretching while permitting sideways relocation and longitudinal adjustments of the stretcher between stretching operations. The anti-sway device comprises connecting means for rotatably connecting the stretcher tubes to the head and tail block of the stretcher and at least one carpet gripper tube which is adapted to be mounted on the stretcher tubes for rotation therewith and is provided with spiked wheels for engaging a carpet surface, the axis of rotation of each spiked wheel being orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the stretcher tubes.

Abstract: A tool is described for installing carpet around a projection such as the nose of a stair tread projecting outwardly from an underlying riser. The tool is constructed from a body having a plurality of teeth for engaging the carpet and a lower terminal end adapted for forcing the carpet into the corner formed by the intersection of the nose and underlying riser. The tool permits the installation of a continuous length of carpet over a plurality of stairs without the necessity of having to cut the carpet into multiple segments. Four embodiments of a tool constructed in accordance with the present invention are described.

Abstract: A roofing membrane puller for tautly pulling a water-proof membrane over a flat roof, even to the edges thereof, includes a frame, at least one anchor which maintains the frame in a selected position on the flat roof, a locking gripper having releasably lockable jaws for gripping the membrane, a leveraged hand drive which is mounted to the frame and includes a lever which is pivotally mounted to the frame and can be grasped by an operator's hand to move the lever and apply a force to the lever in driving direction, and a pulley-cable system for transmitting a pulling force from the leveraged hand drive to the locking gripper to pull the membrane. A cable extends from the leveraged hand drive through at least one pulley where the cable's direction can be changed so that the cable and locking gripper can pull the membrane in a direction which is generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the puller frame.

Abstract: A tool for grasping outside wall corners for providing a stable support base, and for supporting an end of a carpet stretching machine, having an elongated center section and oppositely facing approximate right angle bends at either end of the center section.

Abstract: A locking mechanism for extendible telescoping tubular members formed with radial, axially aligned openings. The locking mechanism comprises a hollow housing that surrounds the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. The housing is adapted for movement in the axial direction of the telescoping tubular members along the exterior wall of the outer tubular member. Disposed within the housing is at least one spring loaded lever that pivots about a fulcrum in the housing. Fixed to the opposite end portions of the lever, respectively, are oppositely directed plungers. When the radial openings of the telescoping tubular members are in register, the locking plunger enters the registered openings to restrain axial displacement between the telescoping tubular members.

Abstract: A plurality or kit of brace assemblies for a carpet stretcher of the type having a carpet gripping head supported by a plurality of elongated telescoping tubular sections that are adjustable to vary the effective length of the head from a fixed support. Three interchangeable brace assemblies are provided, each of which may be substituted by the installer for the standard wall engaging foot on the end telescopic section. Each of the braces is adapted to fit around a fixed discrete vertical support commonly found in areas where carpets are installed such as support posts. All the brace assemblies include a "U" shaped retainer and a tubular base. The largest of these brace assemblies includes a U-shaped arcuate retainer that is adapted to fit around and grasp one of the cylindrical support posts in the carpet installation area. This retainer has a non-pivotal connection to a base that snaps in the telescopic tubular sections of the stretcher.

Abstract: A mechanism for drawing adjacent sections of previously laid and stretched carpeting towards one another for purposes of repairing selected sections of the carpeting. The mechanism includes first and second frame sections which are movably interconnected to each other. Carpet engaging members are mounted on the second frame for selectively engaging one section of the carpet. A power member is operatively mounted on the first frame section and means are provided on the power member for selectively engaging a second section of the carpeting adjacent the second frame section. The carpet engaging means is movable in and out of engagement with the carpeting when the engaging means in the first frame section is in engagement with the carpeting. A drive section on the power member is movable from a first position to a second position by the use of external force, generally manual force.

Abstract: A stay nail bar having a first member mating with a second member, wall abutting blocks attached to an end of each member, and a lever assembly for locking the first member with the second member to flush the wall abutting blocks against the door jams. Two prong receiving bars are connected to the members and include a plurality of operative prongs to engage a carpet to hold it in place while stretching the same.

Abstract: A carpet stretcher comprising a pin head. Extending from the pin head in a rearward direction is a sliding bar having a square cross-sectional area. Tubular telescoping extension members freely receive the sliding bar which extends in the axial direction thereof. At the free end of the tubular members is pivotally mounted a wall engaging member. At the opposite end of the tubular members is pivotally mounted a locking lever. A handle is pivotally mounted on the pin head and extends toward the tubular members. Intermediate the ends of the handle is linkage that pivotally connects the handle to the tubular members. Initially, the handle is depressed to apply an axial stretching force to a portion of a carpet. Stretched carpeting produces an axial reactive force within the carpet stretcher.
