Abstract: A lifting device with a telescopic pole having at least three successive modules mounted so that the modules can slide vertically with respect to each other. A drive strap transfers movement in order to extend an upper module with respect to an intermediate module when the intermediate module is caused to move with respect to a lower module of the modules. The drive strap is kept taut between two fixation points placed respectively on the lower module and upper modules and pass along a return pulley device mounted on the intermediate module. A safety system is normally maintained in inactive position by tension of the drive strap is automatically released into active locking position to prevent the upper module from continuing to move with respect to the intermediate module if the drive strap breaks.

  • Patent number: 4524952
Abstract: A safety system for an oil well type derrick that has a crown block and a traveling block and drawworks for raising and lowering the traveling block. It uses electrical sensing means to detect the presence of the traveling block, and it has electronic circuits to control an actuator for braking the drawworks in order to prevent the traveling block from contacting the crown block.

  • Patent number: 4491301
Abstract: Interposed between the driving shaft of the tackle and the hoisting hook of the tackle is a flat textile strap or a flat metal braid. The strap or braid is attached to the drum of a drum-pulley keyed on the driving shaft at the end of the strap or braid. The strap passes around the pulleys of a pulley-block comprising an upper block mounted on the frame of the tackle to pivot about a horizontal axis X-X, and a lower block suspended from the strap or braid and carrying the hook.

  • Patent number: 4376452
Abstract: A system for loading liquids, particularly useful with water-borne oil tankers, which is basically constructed of liquid conduits articulated in the form of lazy tongs and vertically suspended from a cantilevered boom to enable oil to be loaded from a drilling platform onto a vessel. The lazy tongs system is formed with at least two vertically displaced articulated joints to enable the lower end of the system to move vertically for attachment to or during loading of a vessel. A block and tackle is provided for vertical actuation of the lazy tongs system.

  • Patent number: 4277053
Abstract: Under the action of relative motion between a hoisting machine support and a load, a movable component such as a pulley-block carried by the hoisting machine is capable of free displacement under gravity between two end positions of abutment when that end of the movable component which is intended to cooperate with the load is stationary with respect to the load, thereby compensating for any variation in distance between the load and that portion of the hoisting machine which carries the movable component. The equipment unit is designed primarily for hoisting operations performed at sea or on wharves.
