  • Patent number: 8500102
Abstract: A retractable jack foot for a trailer hitch jack is disclosed, for rapidly raising and lowering the tongue of a trailer. The retractable jack foot solves multiple prior art problems discussed above in the “Description of Related Art,” such as: trailer hitch jacks not being long enough to reach the ground and still lift the trailer to a sufficient height (small distance travel); the laborious, time-consuming practice of cranking a trailer hitch jack all the way to the ground before finally causing lift in the trailer. In both cases, blocks of wood or other spacers are sometimes used to reduce the travel of the jack. The retractable jack foot of the present disclosure, solves those problems, by providing a “built in” block, or foot, pivotally attached to the bottom of the trailer hitch jack. The jack foot can be rotated into and out of position as desired, to quickly lengthen or shorten the jack.

The jack assembly preferably includes the following indicators: (i) at least one jack extension indicator for indication the extension position of the jack; and/or (ii) a disengagement indicator for indicating disengagement of rotational constraints as between the jack body sub-assembly and the load to which the jack is secured (for example, the swivel plate on the tongue of a trailer). In a preferred embodiment, the fixed-engagement indicator takes the form of a marking on a pin that: (i) engages with a swivel plate to rotationally constrain the jack body with respect to the swivel plate; and (ii) disengages with the swivel plate to allow relative rotation of the jack body relative to the swivel plate.

Abstract: A mounting adapter for mounting a jack to a trailer coupler and/or a trailer frame is described. The mounting adapter may permit the jack to mount to the trailer coupler while retaining both vertical and axial adjustability. The mounting adapter may include a flange and a collar. The flange may include an opening for receiving the jack and at least one mounting aperture for attachment with the trailer frame. The collar may extend outward from the flange and have at least one aperture for attachment with the jack. The collar may also include a rib located for engagement with a slot on the jack. The trailer coupler and frame may include apertures alignable to the mounting apertures, whereby the mounting apertures may permit orientation of the jack to be forward, left, right or rear facing. The mounting adapter may also be vertically adjustable to the jack.

Abstract: A jack assembly for adjusting the height of a trailer is provided. The jack assembly is moveable between an operable and a stowed position. The assembly includes a tube having a slot portion and a slide block moveable within the slot portion. A post connected to the slide block protrudes through an opening in the slot portion to engage a clamping mechanism. The clamping mechanism is movable between a clamped position where the slide block is clamped to the tube to prevent the jack from moving, and an unclamped position where the slide block is movable within the slot portion to allow the jack assembly to be moved between an operable position and a stowed position.

Abstract: An hydraulically extensible frame is coupled to the hitch portion of a trailer by a pivoting mount. The pivoting mount permits the frame to pivot between a generally vertical operative position and a generally horizontal stowed position. A foot member is secured to an end of the frame opposite the pivoting mount. The foot member engages the ground. An actuator is carried by the frame in a location adapted to be engaged by a foot of a human user when the frame is in the operative or deployed position. The actuator pivots relative to the frame for storage and use as a handle. The actuator selectively extends the frame to raise the hitch portion in response to actuation by the foot of the user.

  • Patent number: 7648154
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to a method and apparatus for providing a trailer jack mount. The subject invention also pertains to a method and apparatus for providing a trailer jack mount for use with towable trailers. The subject invention is advantageous for use with trailers, such as utility trailers, which are frequently moved between various locations. The subject apparatus can also enable the mounting of a trailer jack to a trailer such that the trailer jack can quickly transition up or down relative to the trailer. In a specific embodiment, the subject invention includes a first piece mountable to a trailer and a second piece to which a trailer jack can be secured. In this embodiment, the subject apparatus also includes means for securely attaching the second piece to the first piece and allowing the second piece to pivot relative to the first piece. Advantageously, the subject invention can either be retrofitted to an existing trailer with jack, or installed at original manufacture.

The trailer securing hardware secures a trailer so that it is supported by the support post assembly and the spring scale indicates the tongue weight of the trailer. The wheel allows the trailer to be moved around when it is hooked up to the jack. In one kind of design, the spring is located between the trailer securing hardware and the wheel. In another kind of design, the spring is located above the trailer securing hardware, distally from the wheel.

Abstract: The “Universal Utility Trailer” Tilter is designed to be portable and lightweight. This will enable the user to insert it into a standard 2? receiver hitch on a tow vehicle. Upon attaching the Trailer Tilter to the vehicle the operator can attach any one of a number of Utility Trailers to the Trailer Tilters 2? ball. By removing the locking pin and operating the mechanism the operator can raise the front of the Utility Trailer thus lowering the rear to a desired level for loading equipment, cars or material. The lowering of the rear of the Utility Trailer until the ramps are level with the bed will prevent the equipment from dragging on either the front or middle while loading. Once loaded the operator can lower the Tilter back to its locking position and insert the locking pin for towing.
