  • Patent number: 10065079
Abstract: Golf ball having a core and a cover of one or more layers, the core being formed of a material molded under heat from a rubber composition including a base rubber, an organic peroxide, and water and/or a metal monocarboxylate. Defining the tan ? slope as (tan ?10?tan ?1)/(10%?1%), where tan ?1 and tan ?10 are the loss tangents at dynamic strains of, respectively, 1% and 10% when the loss tangents of the core center and the core surface are measured at ?12° C. and 15 Hz, the difference between the tan ? slopes at the core surface and the core center is larger than 0.002. Because a core material which undergoes little decrease in resilience over time and experiences little energy loss can be obtained, the golf ball maintains a good rebound, has a reduced spin rate and thus is able to achieve an increased distance.

  • Patent number: 9770629
Abstract: A golf ball resin composition contains a base resin for which, in dynamic viscoelasticity measurement, the storage modulus of the base resin measured at 23° C., 15 Hz and 1.0% strain, and tan ? determined under the same conditions, satisfy specific values; and for which the storage modulus of the base resin measured at 23° C., 15 Hz and 10% strain, and tan ? determined under the same conditions, satisfy specific values. By using this resin composition as a golf ball cover material, the force delivered to the ball while the ball and the clubface are in contact from impact to follow-through is more easily felt, facilitating distance control of the ball. Controllability with a short iron such as a sand wedge around the green is also excellent.

  • Patent number: 6494792
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a golf ball comprising a core and a cover, wherein the cover comprises a blend of two or more high acid ionomer resins. Each high acid ionomer resin utilized in the blend of the cover composition comprises generally of greater than 16% by weight acid, preferably from about 17 to about 25% by weight acid and more preferably from about 18.5% to about 21.5% by weight acid. The acid groups of the high acid ionomers utilized in the cover compositions of the invention are partially (i.e. generally 10-75 percent, preferably 30-70 percent) neutralized by metal ions such as by sodium, zinc and magnesium ions. When the blend of two or more high acid ionomer resins is utilized to manufacture a golf ball, the golf ball produced thereby, exhibits properties of improved distance without sacrificing characteristics such as playability and/or durability when compared to low acid ionomer and/or low acid/high acid ionomer blends.
