  • Patent number: 7429033
Abstract: A scavenging carburetor having an improved relationship between scavenging air flow and fuel-and-air flow to an engine over its range of operating conditions. The carburetor has a butterfly throttle valve and a plug-type scavenging valve. Levers are attached to support shafts of the valves and are connected to each other by a connecting rod so as to synchronize movement of the valves. Because of the different opening angle versus open area properties of the two valves, the supply of the scavenging air is minimized over a low speed range of the engine so as to achieve a stable low speed operation and a stable acceleration from idle conditions and a relatively large amount of scavenging air is supplied over a high speed range of the engine for the given amount of fuel-and-air mixture that is supplied. Therefore, the fuel-and-air mixture supply and scavenging air supply is better matched to the requirements of a particular engine than was possible with conventional combinations of valves.

  • Patent number: 7377496
Abstract: An interlocking lever having first and second cam faces is mounted on a throttle valve stem, and a throttle valve is arbitrarily opened to perform start-up in a state in which the first cam face makes contact with the choke valve lever and the interlocking lever is stopped during low-temperature start-up with the choke valve closed. After the choke valve has been returned to the fully open position, the throttle valve alone is opened with a small degree of opening to perform low-load operation; and in the mid- and high-load region, the interlocking lever integrally turns with the throttle valve, the second cam face pushes the air valve lever, and the throttle valve and air valve are caused to open and close proportionally. Preferably, the degree of opening of the throttle valve for low load operation is adjustable.

  • Patent number: 7290757
Abstract: A versatile rotary carburetor has an idle adjustment needle, a high speed adjustment needle, and preferably an air bypass screw which are substantially parallel to one another and are axially exposed for adjustment in a substantially common direction. Preferably a cammed rotary throttle valve is seated in a body of the carburetor for rotation about and axial movement along an axis. The rotary throttle valve intersects a mixing passage in the body, and carries a through-bore that variably generally aligns to the mixing passage upon rotation of the throttle valve. The throttle valve projects axially through an external surface of the body and threadably receives the idle adjustment needle oriented concentrically to the axis.

  • Patent number: 6585235
Abstract: Method of and mechanism for regulating fuel feed from a rotary valve type carburetor to an associated engine. A carburetor bypass air passage variably communicates the throttle valve hole with a bypass air source at engine idle setting of the throttle valve. The bypass air passage outlet is closed by movement of the throttle valve out of idle setting toward high speed. At an initial carburetor-to-engine set-up and calibration, a bypass regulating valve is maintained open while the engine is running at idle speed. Then the fuel-regulating needle is adjusted to maximum fuel to air (F/A) mixture ratio permitted by applicable engine exhaust quality regulations, and then is permanently set and sealed. During subsequent end user operation of the engine, the bypass valve is closed only when preparing to crank the engine for starting to thereby provide an enriched fuel-to-air mixture for starting of the engine. When the engine is running under its own power the bypass valve is maintained open.

  • Patent number: 6431527
Abstract: A rotary throttle valve carburetor for a two cycle engine reroutes a portion of intake air and introduces the air around the circumference of a fuel feed tube. A rotary throttle, rotatable and vertically moveable, fits into a cylindrical chamber intersecting an air intake channel through a carburetor body. A needle supported by the rotary throttle fits into the fuel feed tube which extends from a fuel metering chamber within the carburetor body into a throttling bore extending laterally through the rotary throttle. An intake portion of the air intake channel expands conically toward an upstream side. An air guide tube is aligned co-axially and radially outward from a fuel feed tube forming an air passageway there between. The intake air portion flows through the air passage from the intake portion of the air intake channel and into a bottom space of the cylindrical chamber beneath the rotary throttle.

  • Patent number: 5740781
Abstract: A starting system for an internal combustion engine is provided for enhancing engine startability and performance by simultaneously controlling the volume of air flowing through a carburetor and the ratio of an air/fuel mixture through a single manual operation. The starting system is constructed to utilize atmospheric air control feed back to a carburetor and includes a piston disposed with a chamber which accesses two atmospheric ports. When the piston is positioned to fully close a first of the ports, a second of the ports is fully open. Similarly, when the piston fully opens the second port, the first port is fully closed. The two atmospheric ports access the carburetor idle system and intake manifold of the engine respectively. For starting of the engine in cold temperatures, the starting system also includes a fuel prime arrangement for enriching the ratio of air/fuel delivered to the engine.

  • Patent number: 4211523
Abstract: Gas-flow control apparatus for delivering a constant volumetric flow of gas to an extruder through which a molten thermoplastic resin is being processed. The gas-flow control apparatus consists of a compressor having an intake and a discharge and is operable to produce a constant volumetric gas flow output. A discharge conduit connects the compressor discharge with the extruder and a feedback loop system consisting of a feedback conduit connects the compressor discharge with the compressor intake and includes a bypass valve. The feedback loop system thus is operable to divert a selected fraction of the compressor output back to the compressor intake thereby to control the volume of gas supplied to the extruder. Flow measuring apparatus measures the volume of the supply gas delivered to the compressor which is equal to the volume of the gas delivered to the extruder and regulates the bypass valve so that a predetermined volumetric flow of gas to the extruder is maintained.

  • Patent number: 4083342
Abstract: The fuel preparation system of an internal combustion engine is provided with an air bypass line which delivers fresh air directly to the intake manifold downstream of the mixture generator, which may be a carburetor, for example. The air flow through the bypass is controlled, firstly, by a valve actuated in synchronism with an air flow meter in the main induction tube and, secondly, by a pressure controlled valve. The pressure controlled valve is connected to sources of different pressure by solenoid valves which are operated on the basis of engine information, for example the exhaust gas composition.
