Abstract: A method of manufacturing a composite structure including a plurality of sheets and a radius filler. The radius filler is adapted to fill a gap at least partially formed by the sheets of the composite structure. The radius filler includes a plastic material with a first curing temperature. The sheets include a plastic material with a second curing temperature. The method includes arranging the sheets in a desired shape, applying the radius filler material into the gap, exposing the sheets and the radius filler material to the first temperature, whereby the material of the radius filler cures, and exposing the sheets and the radius filler to the second temperature, which exceeds the first temperature, whereby the material of the sheets cures. A radius filler for filling gaps between sheets of a composite structure. The material of the radius filler has a curing temperature which is below the curing temperature of the sheets of the composite structure.

Abstract: A method for fabricating a product, such as an amimatronic character, with artificial skin. The method includes providing data defining an exterior surface geometry of the product. A base geometry model of the product is generated based on the exterior surface geometry data, which in turn is used to fabricate a prototype of the product. Then, an exterior skin mold is formed using the product prototype mounted on an alignment block. The method includes fabricating an inner support structure based on the base geometry model having an exterior geometry smaller than the 3D base geometry model by the thickness of the exterior skin. The inner support structure is positioned within the mold with the inner support structure mounted upon the alignment block, which is received in the mold. The product is formed by pouring material for an exterior skin layer into the mold and over the inner support structure.

Abstract: A coupling and a process of molding the coupling is disclosed for interconnecting a primary and a secondary tube. The process comprises the steps of inserting a primary core pin into the primary tube. A secondary core pin is inserted into the second tube to abut with the primary core pin. The assembled tubes and core pins are placed within a mold cavity and a thermoplastic material is injected for forming the coupling. The coupling and the interconnected tubes are removed from the mold cavity. The secondary core pin is disengaged from the secondary core pin to be removed by passing the secondary core pin through the secondary tube. The primary core pin is removed by passing the secondary core pin through the primary tube. The coupling forms a smooth interconnection of the inner cross-sections of the first and second tubes.

Abstract: A hybrid stent is formed which exhibits both high flexibility and high radial strength. The expandable hybrid stent for implantation in a body lumen, such as a coronary artery, consists of radially expandable cylindrical rings generally aligned on a common longitudinal axis and interconnected by one or more links. In one embodiment, a dip-coated covered stent is formed by encapsulating cylindrical rings within a polymer material. In other embodiments, at least some of the rings and links are formed of a polymer material which provides longitudinal and flexural flexibility to the stent. These polymer rings and links are alternated with metallic rings and links in various configurations to attain sufficient column strength along with the requisite flexibility in holding open the target site within the body lumen. Alternatively, a laminated, linkless hybrid stent is formed by encapsulating cylindrical rings within a polymer tube.
