  • Publication number: 20090295036
Abstract: A package for microelectronic circuits includes a frame made of a high molecular weight plastic material, such as a liquid crystal polymer (LCP), attached to a flange, or leadframe. The plastic material is injection molded to the flange. Initial polymerization of the plastic material can occur in a liquid state and results in an intermediate material having an initial melting temperature. After the frame is injection molded, the frame is heated and undergoes further (secondary) polymerization, thereby lengthening polymer chains in the plastic material. These longer polymer chains have higher molecular weight, and the resulting final material has a higher melting temperature, than the intermediate material. The resulting ultra-high molecular weight polymer can withstand high temperatures, such as those encountered during soldering. Thus, after the further (secondary) polymerization, a die can be soldered to the flange, without damaging the plastic frame.

The dust core can be produced by pressure-molding a ferromagnetic powder, a lubricant and a trifunctional alkyl-phenyl silicone resin binder and heat treating the molded core at a temperature in the range of about 300 to about 800° C. for a time period in the range of about 20 minutes to about 2 hours in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The dust core has high magnetic permeability representing the direct current superimposition characteristics, has reduced core loss and has increased mechanical strength.

Abstract: This invention relates to refractory mixes produced by mixing a refractory material with an organic binder and heating to a temperature of typically from about 50° C. to about 100° C. to form a stable composite granulate. The refractor mixes comprise a major amount of a refractory material and a minor amount of a binder composition comprising (a) condensed tannin and (b) furfuryl alcohol. The refractory mixes are used to prepare shaped (e.g. bricks) and unshaped (e.g. blast furnace tap holes, troughs, and tundish liners) refractory products. The invention also relates to a process for preparing the refractory products using the refractory mixes.

Abstract: Thermoplastic compositions containing metal materials and a method for preparing the same. The compositions are formed into particles having diameters suitable for a rotational thermoforming processing. The compositions are particularly applicable for use in slush molding processes where efficient heat transfer to the material is desired to form improved surface quality thermoplastic skin. A preferred method for preparing thermoplastic compositions containing metal material into a slush moldable powder comprises melt compounding the composition to form pellets, and further processing the pellets by cryogenic pulverization. A preferred method for forming micropellets uses an extruder having a gear pump to increase the melt pressure.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel polymeric compositions that exhibit Reverse Thermal Gelation (RTG) properties for use as Support Materials (SM) in the manufacture of three-dimensional objects. These polymers are Temperature Sensitive Polymers that respond with a significant change of properties to a small change in temperature. Temperature Sensitive Polymers exhibit cloud point (CP) or lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in aqueous solutions. Water-soluble Temperature Sensitive Polymers are chosen to give low viscosity liquid at low temperature when dissolved in water and by that to permit easy dispensing at low temperature. Raising the temperature above their gelation temperature (Tgel) will result in solidification of the composition. At its gel position the material has favorable characteristics as a support and building material. The gel layers have the appropriate toughness and dimensional stability to support the model layers during the building process.
