Including Injection Patents (Class 264/513)
  • Patent number: 6702978
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method for producing a tube preform using an injection moulding method. The inventor of the present invention has found that in the case of using an injection moulding method to produce tube preforms which can be constructed with either one layer or a plurality of layers, and of subsequent extension, in particular by heating the preform, and biaxial expansion by means of compressed air, a tube can be obtained which, on the one hand, has a tube shoulder with the strength required by industrial thread and, on the other hand, has a lateral surface which exhibits the softness desired for a tube.

  • Patent number: 6676883
Abstract: This invention relates to articles made of polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate (PET), having coated directly to at least one of the surfaces thereof one or more layers of thermoplastic material with good gas-barrier characteristics, and novel methods of making such articles. Preferably the barrier-coated articles take the form of preforms coated by at least one layer of barrier material and the containers blow-molded therefrom. Such barrier-coated containers are preferably of the type to hold beverages such as soft drinks, beer or juice. The preferred barrier materials have a lower permeability to oxygen and carbon dioxide than PET as well as key physical properties similar to PET. The materials and methods provide that the barrier layers have good adherence to PET, even during and after the blow molding process to form containers from preforms. Preferred barrier coating materials include poly(hydroxyamino ethers).

  • Patent number: 6649121
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of making laminated bottles each having an outer layer and an inner layer capable of delaminating from the former layer. The method consists of the step of injection molding an outer preform from a molten first resin, and the next step of injection molding an inner preform inside the outer preform, using a molten second resin. The method further has the final step of blow molding a parison composed of the outer and inner preforms so as to form each laminated bottle. The second resin has a melting point lower than that of the first resin, nevertheless and contrarily to the prior art, precise parisons affording satisfactory lamination can now be prepared by the injection molding steps. In addition, ventilation holes are formed in the outer layer readily and surely without damaging the inner layer.

  • Patent number: 6645421
Abstract: A method of forming multi-walled plastic containers in a single blow mold. In general, the method comprises disposing at least two separate parisons simultaneously into a blow mold and forming them to shape one after another by means of a special blow mandrel or pin. A substantially hollow, cylindrical first parison may be disposed around or outside of a substantially balloon or tube shaped second parison in an initially open blow mold. After closing the blow mold, the first or outer parison is expanded outwardly so that its outer surface engages the inner surface of the blow mold to assume the shape thereof, and thereafter, the second or inner parison is blown or outwardly expanded to an extent such that its outer surface at least partially engages the inner surface of the first or outer parison. The outer and inner parisons may be formed of different materials which may desirably impart different properties such as mechanical stability and resistance to permeation of fuel vapor from the container.

  • Patent number: 6398897
Abstract: A foil-covered automotive interior plastic part including a decorative preform is provided including a hot stamping foil having a foil top layer disposed on a plastic bottom layer which, in turn, is bonded to a outer surface of a plastic structural substrate at foil-receiving portions of the outer surface. A hot stamping machine is operated for a time sufficient to generate a pressure and temperature sufficient to melt and combine the top surface of the foil-receiving portions and the plastic bottom layer of the hot stamping foil to form the foil-covered plastic part. The at least one foil-receiving portion includes a plurality of raised design portions having top and side surfaces. The foil layer completely covers the top surfaces but only the side surfaces of the raised design portions which extend above a front surface of the preform. Preferably, the raised design portions represent screw heads.

  • Patent number: 6355204
Abstract: A dual-chamber container is formed in an injection blow molding process. Two preforms are injection molded around respective core rods. The preforms and core rods are then moved to a blow mold, in which the preforms are molded to the confines of the mold. The blow mold has partial walls between the two cavities, which provide directional control over the preforms as the preform wall portions are blown against and contact welded to each other. The outer walls of the preforms, which must travel and stretch a greater amount than the inner walls, are formed thicker in the preform molding operation.

  • Patent number: 6322738
Abstract: A method of injection molding an over-molded article in which a cavity extension associated with a core is first moved to a disengaged position and the core is inserted into a first cavity having a defined volume in a first geometrical configuration. A first injection operation is performed into the first cavity to form a first layer of the article. The core is then removed from the first cavity with the first layer of the article on the core. The cavity extension is moved to an engagement position and the core and first layer are inserted into a second cavity. The second cavity and the cavity extension engage to form a composite cavity having a larger volume than the defined volume and define a second geometrical configuration. A second injection operation is performed into the composite cavity to over-mold the first layer to form the article. The core and cavity extension are separated from the second cavity to remove the article therefrom.
