Abstract: The disclosure presents processes for improving the design phase of plastic material lined tubular structures used downhole of a borehole. A plastic material lined tubular structure model is utilized for tubular structures that have a metal layer, a grout layer, and a plastic material layer. The model can use a modified wall thickness for the metal layer. A strength model can be applied to the modified critical dimensions, e.g., wall thickness parameters. A thermal model can be applied to the tubular structure to determine pressure and temperature parameters. The strength model and the thermal model outputs can be utilized by a stress analyzer to determine loads, safety factors, and design limit parameters. The plastic material lined tubular structure model can enable more efficient use of tubular structures, designing a longer operational lifetime, such as in acidic environments, or the use of thinner structures while maintaining a satisfactory operational lifetime.

In this shaft 1, formed as a curved or non-curved hollow cylinder, various layers succeed and enclose one another radially over the entire length or a substantial part of the length of the shaft. The plastics of the inner layer and of the outer layer 3 are different, and the inner layer and the outer layer 3 mesh together in the transition region 5. Thus, the inner layer and the outer layer 3 can connect to each other particularly well, and a delamination of the inner layer and of the outer layer 3 can thus be prevented. This is specifically because the interface between the inner layer and the outer layer 3 is enlarged, in relation to the prior art, by the mutual meshing 6.

Abstract: Material flow modifiers as disclosed herein overcome drawbacks associated with known adverse flow conditions (e.g., surface erosion, head losses, particulate drop-out, and the like) that arise from flow of certain types of materials (e.g., fluids, slurries, particulates, flowable aggregate, and the like) through a material flow conduit. Such material flow modifiers provide for flow of flowable material within a flow passage of a material flow conduit (e.g., a portion of a pipeline, tubing or the like) to have a rotational flow profile. Advantageously, the rotational flow profile centralizes flow toward the central portion of the flow passage, thereby reducing magnitude of laminar flow to overcome the aforementioned adverse flow conditions.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a balloon catheter in which an extruded tubular balloon parison is attached to a component of a catheter shaft prior to blow molding a balloon from the extruded tubular balloon parison. A distal end region of the tubular balloon parison is attached to the outer surface of the elongate catheter shaft component to form a distal bond region between the tubular balloon parison and the catheter shaft component, and then the assembly is positioned in a balloon mold. An annular space between an inner surface of the tubular balloon parison and the outer surface of the elongate tubular member is pressurized to expand the tubular balloon parison in the cavity of the balloon mold to form an inflatable balloon.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a plastic article and a blow molding tool for performing the method. The method comprises extruding an approximately tube-shaped preform, dividing the melt flow within the extrusion head or separating the extrudate exiting or already exited from the extrusion head, such that a preform having an approximately C-shaped cross section is obtained, forming the preform into a hollow part within a multipart blow molding tool using differential pressure, wherein an expansion and partial preforming of the preform first takes place with the blow molding tool partially closed, then in a further step at least one insert is inserted into the interior of the partially preformed article between the not completely closed blow molding tool and through the open side of the preform, and in a further step the blow molding tool is completely closed; wherein the article is completely formed, forming at least one at least partially circumferential pinch-off seam.

  • Patent number: 8951375
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabricating a composite part, such as a fuselage or internal stiffener, with a shape memory polymer (SMP) apparatus usable as both a rigid lay-up tool and a bladder. The SMP apparatus may be heated until malleable, shaped, and then cooled in a desired rigid tool configuration. For example, cavities may be formed into the SMP apparatus for nesting components therein to co-bond or co-cure with the composite part. Next, composite material may be applied onto the SMP apparatus and then placed into a rigid external tool and heated to composite cure temperatures at which the SMP apparatus is malleable. A pressure differential may be induced which urges the SMP apparatus to compress the composite material against the rigid external tool. When the composite material is cured, the SMP apparatus may be urged away from the cured composite material and removed from within the composite part.

Abstract: A method for producing a tubular structural component and device for production thereof are disclosed. A tubular moulding tool has an inner mould surface shaped corresponding to an outer surface of the structural component. A support surface of an expandable support, formed corresponding to the moulding tool shape such that in an unexpanded state the support fills the moulding tool while the support surface and the mould surface run parallel leaving an expansion spacing of the support surface to the mould surface, is covered with a tubular non-crimp fibre fabric, such that fibres of a fibre layer of the non-crimp fibre fabric run diagonally around the support. After the support has been arranged in the moulding tool, the non-crimp fibre fabric is pressed against the mould surface by expanding the support with radial expansion of the non-crimp fibre fabric. The non-crimp fibre fabric is infiltrated by a curable matrix.

Abstract: A method for producing a damper for an air line of an internal combustion engine includes the following steps: providing a temperature-controlled inner part having passages; producing a tubular preform of an outer jacket from a thermoplastic melt; and attaching the temperature-controlled inner part to a blowing mandrel of a blow mold which is open. The blowing mandrel has outlet openings and the passages are positioned over the outlet openings. The method further includes bringing the temperature-controlled preform over the inner part and closing the blow mold such that the preform is blown against the walls of the blow mold whereby an outer jacket is obtained. Simultaneously, local connections between the inner part and the outer jacket are obtained by pressing the preform and the inner part against each other in some regions. Finally, the blow mold is opened and the damper is removed.

Abstract: A sports racquet having a plurality of string port holes and conventional string holes is formed of a single tube of prepreg material. When molded, mold elements press opposed portions of the prepreg tube into contact with one another, and shape the adjoining prepreg material into a string port hole blanks. The portion of the pressed-together material which initially blocks the string port hole is removed after molding so that the string port holes extend through the frame. Alternatively, the mold elements cause the prepreg tube to follow a serpentine shape, thereby defining string port holes which are open alternately along the top and bottom surface of the frame. A pair of cover rings may be secured to the top and bottom racquet surfaces to cover the open sides of the string port holes.
