Abstract: A torch tip protector is elastically retained to an oxyacetylene cutting torch tip during transport. The torch tip protector in the preferred embodiment has a protector cap having a generally disc-shaped base and a truncated conical side wall that together form a cup or thimble-shaped torch tip cover. This torch tip cover operatively encompasses a torch tip and thereby operatively blocks access and fouling of the torch tip. To ensure that the protector cap stays engaged with torch tip, a hook secures to and is manually removable from at least one of the torch gas lines. A spring couples to the hook and couples with the protector cap to provide an elastic tension force that draws the protector cap towards hook and thereby secures the protector cap onto the torch tip.
Abstract: A novel cutting nozzle assembly for a postmixed oxygen-fuel gas torch is disclosed. The nozzle assembly includes a cylindrical shroud which surrounds and extends away from the gas discharge orifices in the gas discharge end of the cutting nozzle. The cylindrical shroud has the advantage of producing a tighter gas stream and of promoting a more thorough mixing of the preheat oxygen and the fuel gas to provide a hotter, more compact flame which produces a more parallel-sided cut through metal workpieces. The cutting tip therefore conserves metal as well as cutting gases. It also cuts faster than prior art postmixed cutting nozzles.
Abstract: A process and apparatus for separating metallurgical products such as ingots, slabs or plate-shaped workpieces using a cutting torch disposed on one side of the product which follows a prescribed cutting line and which forms a front cutting edge on the surface of the product facing the torch and a rear cutting edge on the opposite side of the product and a cutting joint therebetween. At least one gaseous jet is directed at the rear cutting edge of the product to blow molten metal and liquid slag formed during cutting away from the rear cutting edge, thereby preventing the formation of flame burrs at the edges of the cutting joint.
Abstract: A flame-cutting machine for cutting a continuously cast rod includes a cutting torch attached to the machine for cutting the rod, a pair of clamping levers pivoted on the machine for clamping the rod, and a height-adjusting device which has a variable spacing from the rod; the cutting torch and the clamping levers are coupled to the height-adjusting device.
Abstract: In a continuous ingot casting installation, a table of ingot support rollers is arranged in the horizontal cutting zone. This table is arranged between an upstream and a downstream set of ingot support rollers and is reciprocably displaceable therebetween in the direction of the path of movement of the continuously cast ingot and parallel to that of the displacement of a cutting machine. The table is displaced automatically in a direction opposite to that of the cutting machine each time the oxygen torch of the machine approaches one of the rollers of the table and returned to its initial position. In this way, billets are cut from the cast ingot.
Abstract: A device for positioning a cutting torch aggregate includes a movable sled for carrying the torch. The sled is connected by means of a spindle to an adjustable drive which is activated by its engagement with a nut which mounts the sled to the spindle. The nut activates a control for the drive.
