  • Patent number: 8534655
Abstract: A quick-release vise utilizing one or more clamp shafts that can be easily re-configured to clamp with CW or CCW rotation of a clamp handle. The clamp shaft is received in a housing secured to the underside of a workbench, and is free to slide in and out. The clamp shaft passes through aligned holes in a pair of opposing jaws, at least one of which is moveable. A pinion freely slides on the clamp shaft within the housing and converts rotational movement from the clamp shaft into linear movement via a meshing rack gear. The linear motion actuates a bridge which slides against a laterally fixed wedge causing the bridge to displace a locking element which clutches and moves the clamp shaft to affect clamping between the jaws. The wedge and bridge pair can be inverted to allow clamping to occur with a either CW or CCW rotation of the clamp handle and/or re-oriented to cause a spreading motion between the jaws rather than a clamping motion.

  • Patent number: 5584458
Abstract: A quick action bar clamp has provision for mounting an alignment laser instrument on one jaw of the clamp. The mounting provision allows manual pointing of the laser to facilitate projecting a level line or plane of light with a self-leveling laser instrument. By engagement of the clamp on a fixed structure such as a column, wall stud or door frame, the operator can quickly bring the laser instrument into its self-leveling range and easily adjust the beam height. The attachment of the laser instrument to the clamp is via a threaded rod or a magnetic attachment retention. An L-shaped magnetic attachment can be used in another procedure, to connect the laser to the steel slide bar of the clamp.

  • Patent number: 5348276
Abstract: A slide bar clamp having a straight surface on an elongated base that can serve as a straight edge. The base includes a longitudinal channel in which a rod is suspended. A first clamp surface is fixed at one end of the base. A moveable lock and clamp structure is mounted for longitudinal movement within the channel back and forth along the rod. The lock and clamp structure is formed in a housing. A handle is rotatably mounted on the housing. The handle locks by forcing an increasingly widened portion against a plurality of lock plates. The lock plates are arranged face-to-face and each has a hole through which the rod is inserted. In the locked position, the lock plates are tilted such that the inner edges of their holes grab the rod to prevent movement of the lock and clamp structure away from the fixed clamp surface. The slide bar clamp has a flat surface which permits mounting of the slide bar clamp on an adjacent flat surface or the back of an adjacent clamp.

  • Patent number: 5310257
Abstract: A clamping fixture slides between a pair of guide rails and includes a pressure plate between the guide rails. Lock plates with internal openings for receiving the guide rails are held captive on the pressure plate. An operating bar with stepped ends, one adjacent each locking plate, is deflected by a cam mechanism to incline the lock plates relative to the guide rails, thus wedging the lock plates to prevent further sliding along the guide rails. Return springs are provided to urge the lock plates to an unlocked position when pressure on the operating bar is released. A mixing apparatus using the clamping fixture is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5222420
Abstract: A hand tool consists of a movable jaw, a slide bar wherein the movable jaw is mounted to the slide bar. A support assembly is provided for supporting the slide bar. A stationary jaw is spaced away from the support assembly and is provided with at least a front portion. A one-way drive arrangement is designed having at least a driving lever. A cam having a longitudinally extending handle is pivotally mounted at the support assembly and contacts the driving lever. The cam disengages the driving lever when the one-way drive arrangement is released from the slide bar, and the cam engages the driving lever when the one-way drive arrangement engages the slide bar.

  • Patent number: 5094131
Abstract: A bar clamp having a fixed jas and a movable jaw which is radially movable over both short and long distances to clamp against a workpiece and is operable using one hand with complete control by the operator at all times. The jaws may either face one another while being mounted on the same dise of a handle/grip assembly or face in opposite directions while being mounted on opposite sides of the handle/grip assembly whereby they may be incrementally advanced by the trigger handle/driving lever. Another embodiment uses a substrate comprising a plurality of apertures to receive posts thus acting as a vise type of clamp/wrench.

Abstract: A bar clamp, which is operable with one hand, includes a fixed jaw and a movable jaw. The movable jaw connects at one end to a movable slide bar. One-way drive means, by operation of a trigger handle grip, releasably engages the slide bar and advances the movable jaw toward the fixed jaw. Return motion of the movable jaw is accomplished manually when the one-way drive means is disengaged. A braking lever, biased to bind against the slide bar, prevents reverse motion of the movable jaw except when disengaged from the slide bar. The trigger handle advances the slide bar by driving a second lever which binds against a slide bar surface. The second lever returns by spring force to its original position after each stroke of the trigger handle.

  • Patent number: 4874170
Abstract: A toggle action string clamp for a racquet stringing machine comprises two vise members movable along positioning glide bars attached to the stringing machine, which can be locked to the bars and to the strings of a racquet positioned in the machine. An angular link member connects a bottom vise member to a clamp-locking handle, with the top vise member being located therebetween. Locking is achieved by forcing the bottom U-shaped portion of the handle against a locking pin contained in the top vise member, thereyby urging the two vise members together. The clamp is provided with a wedge block mechanism capable of adjusting the effective distance between the bottom of the U-shaped portion and the bottom vise member, thus controlling the clearance between the vise members and, therefore, the clamping force.
