A separate hand held tapering tool includes a tapered bar on a handle for tapering by trimming to the taper of the bar as a rough reed blank is retained against the tapered bar with a single clamp member attached adjustably to the distal end of the tapered bar, while a duplicator mounted on a separate base member includes a cutting assembly with a follower that follows the shape of the pattern reed as a blade shaves the reed accordingly.

    Abstract: A blind riveting tool has a front abutment provided by a pair of jaws which are spring-urged into their closed position and move to their open position by a generally pivoting movement of each jaws. The jaws are opened by means of a ball which is in contact with the outside of the rearward end of each jaw, the balls being encircled by a rotatable ring having cam faces in contact with the balls. When the ring is rotated, the cam faces force the balls inwards to press the rearward ends of the jaws together, thereby to make each jaw pivot and open the front end of the jaws.

By this a favorable and equally distributed force transmission is obtained with a high degree of efficiency.

    Abstract: Lower and upper split collars are positioned in engagement with the lower and upper cylindrical surfaces of a pipe and these collars in turn held in lower and upper clamp members. The exterior surfaces of the split collars in engagement with the interior surfaces of the clamp members have decreasing diameters from intermediate points towards opposite ends to define oppositely directed slopes. The interior engaging walls of the clamp members with the split collars are similarly tapered. When a pulling or pushing force is exerted on the pipe between the split collars, a camming action against the exterior walls of the collars is effected by the clamps urging the collars radially inwardly to more tightly grip the pipe so that the pipe is held from axial movement in either direction.

    Abstract: Test apparatus for electrically and mechanically testing the condition of alternators and starters used in automobiles, trucks and the like. The apparatus, in its preferred form, includes a pair of holding fixtures for securing a starter or alternator during test, the fixtures being configured to allow quick and easy insertion and removal of the unit. Electrical circuitry is connectable to the machine under test by quick connect leads, such as alligator clips, and includes interlocking switch means for allowing starters to be tested in one condition, and alternators in another condition. The electrical circuitry includes indicators for showing the electrical condition of the machine being tested. The apparatus is structured so that a device may be tested with a minimum of effort, allowing a typical test to be completed in less than a minute.

    Abstract: A pad-type jar gripper with a circular depression in the center for holding the base of a conventional canning jar securely during hot-jar processing, the gripper automatically adjusting for tighter holding when a jar is pressed downward in the pad depression and readily releasing the jar when it is lifted from the pad.As illustrated in the drawings and described in more detail hereinafter, the particular embodiment of this invention comprises a base pad having firm but pliable stubby gripper fingers angled upward from the outer edge of the pad. These fingers are so arranged around the circumference of a circular depression in the pad as to accept the bottom section of a conventional canning jar. The fingers extend up the jar sides sufficiently to prevent the jar from being easily tipped. The bottom part of the pad has a soft center directly beneath the bed of the jar-holding depression.
