With Threaded Type Fastener Means Patents (Class 269/262)
  • Patent number: 8167292
Abstract: Jaw plates for removably attaching to the jaws of machine vises extend above the top of the jaw to hold taller workpieces. They are made from aluminum alloy for readily machining to conform to contours of a workpiece not easily held by flat jaw faces. They are sections cut from a special extrusion for enhanced physical properties and economy of production. Through holes are drilled for fastening to the jaw face. The plate has a planar vertical face for lying flat on the vertical jaw face. A second face engages the top horizontal face of the jaw. A groove between the two plate faces ensures the second face engages the horizontal face of the jaw away from the intersection of the faces. Alternatively, material on the plate may conform to the workpiece when hot and retain shape when cool.

  • Patent number: 6748830
Abstract: A pliers having a replaceable gripping member for pliers jaws in the form of a threaded cylinder received in a threaded bore with part of the threaded cylinder extending out of the jaw in which it is mounted to provide a gripping surface formed of a segment of the threaded cylinder. The mating jaw has a recess to receive the projecting segment. A method of renewing the gripping surface includes rotating the threaded member to expose a different portion of the threads in the projecting segment, after removal of damaged threads in the projecting segment by filing the cylinder, if necessary. A hexagonal recess is formed in the end of the cylinder to enable installation, renewal of the segment and replacement of the entire cylinder using an Allen wrench. For non-sparking applications, the pliers are formed of aluminum bronze and the gripping member is formed of beryllium copper.

  • Patent number: 6547259
Abstract: The jaw assembly includes a master jaw and an insert jaw. An engagement surface on the master jaw provides a mounting surface for the insert jaw. The master jaw is contoured to provide a minimum of mass opposite the mounting surface and opposite the engagement surface to minimize the total rotating mass when the jaw assembly is in operation. In operation, a force is applied substantially perpendicular to the engagement surfaces between the insert jaw and master jaw such that the engagement surface experiences the force rather than the insert fastener.

  • Patent number: 5464232
Abstract: A locking jaw assembly having a workpiece clamping top jaw securely interconnectable to a master jaw by a key locator and a lock bolt wherein the top jaw may be readily removed from the master jaw by simply loosening the lock bolt and another top jaw may be readily interconnected to the master jaw with repeatable precision by retightening the loosened lock bolt. The secure interconnection of the top jaw to the master jaw by the key locator and lock bolt is augmented by a lip portion of the master jaw received in a complementary shaped groove disposed on a flange of the top jaw wherein forces exerted by the workpiece on the top jaw tend to move the top jaw into closer contact with the master jaw and relieve tensile stresses on the key locator.

  • Patent number: 4648585
Abstract: A vise structure has a control handle cooperating with a two-part guide rod means, including respective inner and outer rods mounted telescopically relative to each other. The handle is rotatably supported on the frame and has a limited longitudinal movement thereon. In one longitudinal position, the handle is coupled only to the inner rod for rotation in unison; and the inner rod is linked to a pair of pivotably-mounted vise jaws arranged to move towards and away from each other transversely of the vise structure.
