  • Patent number: 4513955
Abstract: An alignment level tool aligns and holds metal plate edges in alignment for welding. The tool includes an L-shaped member and a series of work adaptor members. One arm of the L-shaped member has working screw threaded therein and the other arm has a mounting plate. The adaptor members include an L-shaped adaptor bracket, and a special V-shaped adaptor bracket. The L-shaped bracket has a short leg and a relatively long leg with each leg having an opening for bolting to the mounting plate of the L-shaped member. The bracket legs provide a two point support on a curved work plate or an offset planar support for an angulated plate. The adaptor bracket is temporarily welded to one work plate. The screw is aligned with the second work plate and is actuated to positively force the work plates into alignment for welding. The tool is then removed by bending with respect to the bracket weld to break the weld.

  • Patent number: 4475726
Abstract: A rugged sturdy workpiece positioning mechanism that effectively and efficiently positions and holds at least two workpieces for further operations is provided. The mechanism includes a main support which is slidably connected to a first workpiece and a housing assembly which is affixed to the main support and extends above and engages the second workpiece. The housing assembly includes two side plates, a cam with a handle rotatably attached to the sideplates, a ratchet to lock the cam into a fixed position and a load bearing surface actuated by the cam and slidably received between the side plates. The edge of the cam abuts the load bearing member. When the cam is rotated in a predetermined direction, the distance between its axis of rotation and the load bearing member increases driving the load bearing member downward. The load bearing surface engages the workpiece and forces the second workpiece into a desired position relative to the first workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4457131
Abstract: In the manufacture of a cable-type tire chain having elongate flexible side members and cross-members carrying traction sleeves, the cross-members are connected to the side members by hooks which are crimped to the side members in a press. To assemble the cross members and side members, they are supported in an assembly jig, with the hooks attached to the opposite ends of the cross-members and embracing the side members. The hooks on one side of the chain are crimped simultaneously to the relevant side member in a single pressing operation while supported in the jig, which applies tension to the side member.

  • Patent number: 4445677
Abstract: An apparatus for clamping a plastic fitting against a plastic pipe and for holding them together with a predetermined clamping force includes a carriage and guide means for guiding the carriage in vertical motion above a fixed pipe support portion. A frame portion is fixed with respect to the pipe support portion, and first and second toggle links are pivoted to the carriage, to the frame portion and to each other in such a way that the links can achieve an aligned position in which the carriage is in its lowermost location. A mechanical interference means is provided to prevent the toggle links from going significantly past the dead center position represented by the alignment. Means are connected to the carriage for holding the plastic fitting, and lever means are provided for rotating one of the toggle links.
