Foldable Sections Patents (Class 27/4)
  • Patent number: 4788757
Abstract: A casket assembly of the casket surround type in which the casket surround includes a movable floor and an adjustment mechanism for raising and lowering the floor or tilting the floor. The floor is raised during the viewing process to provide an optimal viewing position and is lowered following the viewing process so that the vault can be sealed and the sealed vault may be transported within the casket surround to the burial site. The casket surround comprises a simple core structure to which the various components of exterior ornamentation are removably secured so that damaged components may be readily and selectively removed and replaced. One end wall of the casket surround is hinged adjacent its lower edge so that it may be pivoted to a lowered, open position to facilitate insertion or removal of the vault from the casket surround.

  • Patent number: 4637544
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of boxes, wherein a sheet material, such as cardboard, is punched to produce a box element with at least five sections limited by parallel score lines; the ends of at least three sections are inserted and fastened in U-grooves recessed in side walls formed by synthetic material, a fourth section forms a lowerable and liftable cover and a fifth terminal section forms a closing flap, for which each side wall of synthetic material has an insertion groove. The fastening of the punched element to the side walls may be carried out without adhesives by means of the engagement of the punched element edges, and of cuts thereof, in the U-grooves of the side walls, and with some teeth of them. Some side flaps defined in the closing flap can co-operate with inwardly and outwardly directed teeth of the insertion grooves, by providing for the cover in closed position a releasable catch and, respectively, a sealed closing.

  • Patent number: 4399596
Abstract: A blank for erection into a coffin for the disposal of a human corpse is cut from a sheet of cardboard. It comprises a base (B) with ends pieces (C,D) and sides (E,F), the end pieces having lateral extensions (CC,DD), all integral yet separated by crease lines. The sides (E,F) have ends (e,f) cut into the adjacent extensions (CC,DD) at angles such as each to give an upright corner in the erected coffin. The extensions (CC,DD) are connected to the insides of the adjacent sides (E,F). A separate coffin lid fits down inside the coffin lid and rests on strengthening strips (A) adhering to the inside of the coffin. Depending upon configuration, the base and/or side pieces have free edges cut out in dove-tailed or mating segments for joining together the edges upon erection of the blank into the coffin.

  • Patent number: 4305186
Abstract: A one piece body support for use in a casket to support a body in a recumbent position. The body support is assembled from a unitary blank of paperboard and comprises a bed portion having integral length adjustable means enabling the length of the bed portion to be varied so that the body support can be adapted to be accommodated in caskets having different interior lengths. The length adjustable means comprises flexible end sections formed by transversely extending score lines. The flexible sections are foldable to vary the length of the bed portion while maintaining a generally constant vertical position for the bed portion.

  • Patent number: 4253206
Abstract: An inexpensive, light weight body support adapted for use in a casket to support a corpse. The body support consists of a pair of bed sections which are formed from blanks of sheet material such as paper board and which are positioned end-to-end in the casket. When set up, each bed section has a generally flat top panel and depending upright side panels having vertical dimensions that decrease progessively from the head portion to the foot portion to support the corpse in an inclined position. The top panel is scored longitudinally enabling it to sag under the weight of the corpse to restrain its sideways movement in the casket. Triangularly shaped base members are disposed transversely of the bed sections in the casket to support the bed sections by engaging their side panels. A corpse whose weight exceeds a predetermined magnitude will cause the side panels to collapse around the base members lowering the corpse in the casket.

  • Patent number: 4156956
Abstract: A casket includes a container and a removable cover with the container and cover comprising elongated blanks made of double wall corrugated cardboard. Each blank is scored and precut to define, when folded, the aforesaid container and cover respectively, top and bottom walls, upturned and downturned outwardly tapered side walls, upturned and downturned outwardly tapered end walls, and foldable inwardly directed flaps on all said end walls. The flaps register with the corresponding side walls of the container and cover and are secured thereto by an adhesive layer. The cover side and end walls overly and supportably and retainingly engage the corresponding container side and end walls. The cover is snap-fastened and secured to the container by a pair of outwardly directed cut out tabs formed in the end walls of said cover, each defining an anchor stop. The cover anchoring tabs extend downwardly and outwardly from the container end walls and are snap-fitted into and interlocked with the cover anchor stops.
