  • Patent number: 6109029
Abstract: An apparatus and method as seen in FIG. 2 for converting the motion of waves on a body of fluid 52 into useable energy. This apparatus employs a wave follower 20 to track the rising and falling waves. The reciprocating wave follower interacts with a driven device, such as a pump 202a or generator 202b through an optional lever arm 171 and also through a drive member such as a reciprocating shaft 26. Because the driven device is incorporated into an essentially immovable floating or fixed support member 17, work is accomplished. By increasing the work producing travel distance of the driving member, being the wave follower 20 beyond that of previous art and, in certain embodiments such as that shown in FIG. 2, and by more effectively capturing surge forces that has previous art, this apparatus is intended to produce significantly more work than other similar devices operating in the same waves.

  • Patent number: 4368879
Abstract: A cutting and folding apparatus receives a printed web from a printing section including a plate cylinder and produces a variety of signatures. The apparatus includes a folding cylinder having a diameter two or more times as large as that of the plate cylinder, a collecting cylinder adjacent the folding cylinder and having a diameter 1.5 times as large as that of the plate cylinder, a pin cylinder adjacent the collecting cylinder and having the same diameter as the plate cylinder, and a gripping cylinder adjacent the folding cylinder and having the same diameter as the folding cylinder. To obtain superimposed signatures, cutting knives circumferentially provided on the folding cylinder transversely sever, in cooperation with holding members on the collecting cylinder, the running web supplied therebetween. The severed sheets are held by the holding members and superimposed one over the other, two superimposed sheets being successively transferred to the pin cylinder for delivery.

  • Patent number: 4349185
Abstract: Folding apparatus for quarter-folded web products such as paper napkins wherein belt means are associated with a pair of vacuum folding rolls for stripping products from one roll and thereafter urging the product against a simultaneously folded product carried by the other roll and thereafter delivering both products in superposed relation along a horizontal path.

  • Patent number: 4295644
Abstract: In a machine for stacking bags manufactured from thin thermoplastic foil material, the combination of a rotatable supporting drum with radially projecting collecting pins and clenching means for the bags, said means comprising a radially and tangentially displaceable and blade-shaped retaining member(s) mounted on the drum and further comprising transverse beams circulating in closed circuit a portion of which mainly coincides with a sector of the periphery of the drum, the actuation of the retaining members taking place through a system of levers cooperating with cams.

  • Patent number: 4190243
Abstract: A folding assembly for book folding in web-fed rotary printing machines is disclosed. A take-over or transfer cylinder, which is capable of operating in either straight or collect run production, transfers signatures to an acceleration section which is run at a selected speed to deliver the signatures to a longitudinal folding device in a spaced array thereby allowing adequate time for the longitudinal folding device to perform a second longitudinal folding operation on the signatures. The speed of the acceleration section is varied by changing its gear drives.

  • Patent number: 4190242
Abstract: A gear folder for folding paper webs or sheets is provided with a cutting knife cylinder, a counter-cut groove cylinder, and a collecting and folding blade cylinder. The collecting cylinder has an odd number of fields for receipt of sheets and further includes an internal folding blade carrier having an even number of folding blades which selectively project through the periphery of the collecting cylinder to transfer a web to suitable folding rollers. Each of the fields of the collecting cylinder is provided with a pin set to retain the web on the periphery of the cylinder. The pin sets are controlled to selectively retract in conjunction with the projection of the folding blades to allow transfer of a selected sheet or stack of sheets to the folding rollers. The frequency of retraction of the pin sets and projection of the folding blades can be varied to transfer the sheets to the folding rollers after each revolution or only after several revolutions of the collecting drum.

  • Patent number: 4190241
Abstract: An apparatus for converting rolls of paper web into stacks of folded sheets on a continuous high speed basis includes slitting a supply roll into plural narrow webs, folding the narrow webs longitudinally, cutting the folded webs transversely into sheets of suitable length, pre-stacking continuous streams of adjacent folded sheets emerging from the cutters before they are carried to a final stacking mechanism. The pre-stacking mechanism removes certain sheets from their original positions in the continuous streams of folded sheets and places them on top of other sheets in the streams from which they were removed in order to deliver to the final stacking mechanism sets of pre-stacked sheets with a gap between adjacent sets.
