Abstract: A paper feeding mechanism, an image forming apparatus employing the same and a paper feeding method thereof are disclosed. In an image forming apparatus capable of performing the printing operations at a particular printing operation that calls for a particular corresponding reference paper feeding speed, a reduction in the paper feeding noise may be achieved by providing a pickup roller operable at pickup/feeding speed that is slower than the reference feeding speed called for by the particular printing speed and a registration roller operable at the reference feeding speed. In addition, the pickup period at which the pickup roller picks up successive sheets of paper may be shortened to account for the slower operating speed of the pickup roller.

Abstract: Discrete means of setting a feeder to process a wide range of media, i.e., sheets, slips, envelopes, booklets and hand collated documents, etc. as well as providing a method of utilizing the feeder for manual feed operation. The foregoing is accomplished by a friction-clutch retard feeder equipped with one or more friction clutches. When a selection lever is moved to a position 1, a primary clutch engages the separator roller with a resistive torque T1. The selection lever configures the mechanism such that the separator roller rotation is resisted entirely by the torque of the primary clutch. When the selection lever is moved to a position 2, the ground of the primary clutch is removed, and the rotation of the separator roll is coupled through a gear ratio to a secondary clutch. The selection of the gear ratio and the value of the secondary clutch allows the separation mechanism to be resisted by a second torque, T2, which can be lower than T1.

A method of one-way power transmission includes force-fitting the driving member into the latch member with a friction which is less than a load exerted to a driven member. Since the latch member force-fits over the boss of the driving member, the driving member and the latch member rotate together with each other when the driving member switches from a driving force disconnection state to a driving force connection state, and thus, engagement of latch gears of the driving member and the latch member is reliably achieved. The drive shaft selectively rotates in a first direction and a second direction. The cam set includes a first cam, a second cam, and a first one-way clutch. The present invention further includes a one-way gear train fixed to the drive shaft and being driven selectively by the drive shaft; a paper-stopping plate connected with a paper-stopping arm; a pick-up roller fixed to and rotatable with a pick-up shaft; a strip roller fixed to and rotatable with a strip shaft; and a gear train transferring the power from the one-way drive gear set to the pick-up roller and the strip roller. The relative operational relationship between the pick-up arm and the paper-stopping arm is coordinated by the cam set.

  • Patent number: 6609707
Abstract: The manual sheet feeding apparatus according to the conventional art employing a retard separating system requires a pick-up roller for feeding sheets one by one from the bundle of sheets, a mechanism for detaching the pick-up roller, a shutter, and a shutter solenoid for controlling the shutter. Consequently, these requirements cause need of a large space, a complex system, and high cost. In order to improve the above issue, they are provided, a sheet feeding apparatus for use in image forming apparatuses and image reading apparatuses which have the following features. A sheet supported by a displaceable sheet supporting unit of the sheet feeding apparatus is fed by a feeding rotation body. A separating rotation body is pressed against the feeding rotation body and is operated to force an extra sheet in a reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 6601843
Abstract: A sheet feeding device including a sheet tray accommodating stacked sheets, and a sheet feeding unit feeding the stacked sheets in the sheet tray one by one. The sheet feeding unit includes a feeding roller which rotates in a sheet feeding direction, and a separation roller which presses against the feeding roller when feeding each of the stacked sheets and which rotates, via a torque limiter, in a direction opposite the sheet feeding direction. The separation roller is rotated by rotation of the feeding roller when a single sheet is sandwiched between the feeding and separation rollers. Also included is a conveying member arranged downstream of the feeding roller in the sheet feeding direction, and a driving source which drives each of the feeding roller, the separation roller, and the conveying member via a driving force transmission mechanism so the separation roller and the conveying member are driven in conjunction with each other.

Abstract: A card feeder for a card printer provides a stack of cards at an input end of the printer. The cards are supported on a pair of rollers that are driven at differential speeds and through one-way clutches so that a card being fed from the stack will pass through an outlet opening and can be accelerated by further drives. The sheet feeding device is capable of feeding a sheet at a preselected speed without regard to a print speed varying every moment due to various factors particular to an ink drum driveline, i.e., whether a set print speed is higher than a standard print speed or lower than the same. This successfully obviates the short loop of a sheet which would result in a skew or a feed failure. In addition, the device reduces noise at print speeds lower than the standard print speed and used more often than the other print speeds.
