    Abstract: A media processing device enables opening an openable unit so that the media transportation path is open with a minimal operation and little operating force. The media processing device has an openable unit that can rotate on a first pivot axis CL1 from a closed position to an open position; a lock member that can move to a locked position where it locks the openable unit in the closed position and an unlocked position where the lock is released; and an operating lever that can rotate on a second pivot axis CL2 through a range from a first pivot position passed a second pivot position to a third pivot position. A first cam mechanism converts rotation of the operating lever from the second pivot position to the third pivot position to rotation of the openable unit from the closed position to the open position.

Then, through a mirror image process, it is formed on an image formation face (upper face) of a sheet the read image of whcih direction is the same as that of the set original. When the image-formed sheet is discharged externally by the reverse sheet discharge control, the sheet is discharged in such a state as its face is being turned downward.

    Abstract: A sheet feeding apparatus for use in a photocopier or the like in which sheets can be fed automatically from a cassette or manually from a manual-insertion tray to a pair of conveying rollers without interference and using a simple structure. Sheets are fed from the cassette to the conveying rollers with a semicircular roller, the latter having a flat surface which is directed downward at the completion of each sheet feeding operation. The manual insertion tray guides the manually inserted sheets along a path below the semicircular roller. A sensor detects when a sheet has been manually inserted, in which case rotation of the semicircular roller is inhibited.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling newspapers which have a jacket and a plurality of inserts within the jacket are disclosed. The apparatus includes a circular array of stations and a rotor carrying a plurality of pockets which move below the stations. A two-speed transmission is provided so that the rotor can be driven at either of two speeds. At each station there is a hopper for feeding a jacket or insert into the pockets as they move below. The jacket feeding stations are grouped into a group of two or more adjacent stations. The insert feeding stations are likewise grouped into groups of adjacent stations having two or more in each group. All groups have the same number of stations and the stations in each group all feed an identical jacket or insert. In addition there is a single opener station for opening jackets before inserts are fed into the jackets and a single delivery station for each group of jacket feeding stations. In one embodiment each group includes two stations.
