Patent number: 5980404Abstract: A hockey blade for a hockey stick for striking a game projectile during hockey play. The preferred hockey blade has horizontal arcuate channels disposed on each of a first striking face and a second striking face of a projectile striking member whereby the striking faces of the hockey blade demonstrate improved control over a spherical game projectile. A plurality of vertical score lines may be disposed on one or both striking faces of the hockey blade. First and second light sources, each emitting a different light signal, may be operably associated with the first and second sides respectively of the hockey blade whereby the first and second sides can be readily distinguished. A plurality of ridges comprising rotatably coupled spherical balls may be disposed on a bottom face of the projectile striking member. The spherical balls may be removably coupled to the projectile striking member by a removable sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Inventor: Robert Gentile

Patent number: 5613687Abstract: A portable game and amusement device that is comprised of a flexible sheet defining a playing surface, a series of framing members that are capable of being arranged in a substantially closed figure situated on the flexible sheet, and fastening means that releasably securing the framing members to the upper surface of the flexible sheet in the substantially closed figure. The fastening means hold the framing members in a fixed position on the upper surface of the flexible sheet and also hold the flexible sheet in a taut configuration beneath the framing members. When the framing members are releasably secured to the flexible sheet to form the substantially closed figure, they define a playing arena within the interior of the substantially closed figure with the playing arena providing a means to contain a game piece that is rolled or slid along the flexible sheet.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1996Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Inventor: John Zaffino

Patent number: 5520385Abstract: An article for assembly with the application of heat to a selected temperature range to activate a thermoresponsive constituent, wherein the article avoids deterioration due to heating above the selected temperature range by including a thermochromatic material visibly disposed on the article. The thermochromatic material provides a visual indication in response to the thermoresponsive constituent being heated to the selected temperature range.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1993Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Composite Development CorporationInventors: Peter A. Quigley, Steven C. Nolet

Patent number: 5435548Abstract: A hockey stick blade including a flexible, resilient, polyurethane foam pad permanently adhered to the upper corner of the front edge of a hockey stick blade such that the striking surface is unobstructed and the weight and dimensions of the blade are unaltered, wherein the pad has properties which cause it to interlock with the pores of the blade. A recession or cutout may be defined by the upper corner to which the pad is adhered for a more resilient pad and enhanced attachment.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1994Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Inventors: Larry Leduke, Gary Green

Patent number: 5183266Abstract: A baseball board game which utilizes scoring holes of varying sizes which are placed in such a manner as to approximate a real baseball game by the frequency of plays and events which occur in a real ball game.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1991Date of Patent: February 2, 1993Inventor: Michael Kohler

Patent number: 5000153Abstract: A game and sport device which can be used to repeatably mold and accurately throw snowballs as launched missiles. It comprises a hollow plastic shaft having a cup used for molding and holding a snowball at one or both ends. Snowballs are held in place by snow compacted into a series of 360.degree. grooves inside each end cup. They are launched into flight at about the zenith of the throwing motion when the force of the throw exceeds the shear force of the snow where it is compacted into the grooves. The widest cup diameter occurs at the cup mouth and the snowballs are discharged from the device as a single mass of material. Two cups each having a different groove pattern, sizes or the like can be provided at opposite ends of the device to allow opportunity for cup selection to compensate for various snow conditions.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1989Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Assignee: Sun Products International, Inc.Inventors: K. DeMarr Zimmerman, William J. Robbins, Jr.

Patent number: 4905988Abstract: A combination dumbell, hand-grip exerciser and handgoal device having two open cavity chambers each having a rim, and two projecting guidelanes inside each chamber, for directing a ball; and two cover lids to seal contents put within the chambers for weighting the device. The device includes actuators consisting of two arms, hinge structures, a removeable pivot rod and a plurality of single-loop coil springs, placeable into the inner arm's spring slots, for grip pressure of the device. All are secured together with a wing nut fixed to the extending end of the pivot rod. The device includes a ball, safety strap and rubber strap.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1988Date of Patent: March 6, 1990Inventor: Betty F. Mooneyhan

Patent number: 4382600Abstract: Apparatus for playing a game using a ball as a player piece movable over the upper surface of a gameboard having side and end walls. The ball is propelled over the gameboard surface by a paddle or a striking member which is hand-held and has a hole through it for sighting the ball before the ball is struck. The gameboard has a plurality of spaced pins projecting upwardly from the upper surface thereof to present obstacles which can be struck with a ball as it is propelled forwardly. A pair of goals are at opposite ends of the gameboard, the goals being defined by wickets. Preferably, the ball is of metal and each goal has a magnet behind the corresponding wicket to attract the ball after it enters the wicket. A layer of fabric material covers the upper surface of the gameboard and the inwardly facing surfaces of the side and end walls. The material has a pile or fuzziness which allows uniform movement of the ball over the gameboard surface without the need for leveling the gameboard.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1981Date of Patent: May 10, 1983Inventor: Frank Vieira

Patent number: 4339133Abstract: The invention provides a set of five sliding disc game pieces and croquet type striking mallet for use in novel game play on a smooth and horizontal low friction type surface such as ice. Game apparatus design considers desirable range of disc diameter, height, weight, and weight distribution, and also shows an improved head end design of striking mallet for better access and alignment possibilities in game play. Novel discs have diameters comparable to those of discs for shuffleboard play, but are greater in height, are more pliable, and are designed with lower center of gravity in preferred embodiments. Striking mallet head is flat on bottom and has square transverse cross section design which tapers downwardly and inwardly toward end faces. A center guide line extends across the top of mallet head and down end faces. Mallet face height is approximately same as disc height for good center-to-center type contact in game play.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1980Date of Patent: July 13, 1982Inventor: Norwood R. Warehime

Patent number: 4290606Abstract: A game projectile is configured as a polyhedron rather than being spherical or cylindrical in shape. The projectile is independently supported above the low friction base by which it moves across the playing surface. Provision may be made to permit the polyhedron to rotate about its independent support. A further embodiment provides that the location of the point of support of said polyhedral projectile may be varied to assure that the support axis does not pass through the mass center of the projectile. This disclosure teaches the use of impelling instruments having striking surfaces which are configured such that the contact of said striking surfaces with said polyhedron will tend to project the polyhedron across the playing surface on an imprecisely determinable path.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1979Date of Patent: September 22, 1981Inventor: Thomas J. Maxwell

Patent number: 4248428Abstract: The invention comprises a game apparatus for two or more players comprising a first and a second home plate spaced from one another for a first and a second player. Each of the first and second home plates has plural supports positioned therein for removably supporting a cross bar. Each of the first and second players is provided with a bat to guard the cross bar of the respective home plate. The first player pitches a rolling ball to the second player, whereat the second player attempts to hit the ball and prevent the ball from displacing the cross bar from the plural supports.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1978Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Inventor: Ernest Vilches
