Abstract: Precompressed sealing tape for sealing a joint has a foam strip and a foil-type wrapping, which completely surrounds the foam strip and thus holds it in a precompressed state. A first transverse surface of the foam strip is pressed against a strip-like element, which is arranged inside the wrapping and has a certain resistance to bending in the transverse direction of the foam strip. A second transverse surface of the foam strip, which is arranged opposite to the first transverse surface, is firmly connected to the foil-type wrapping.

Abstract: An improved floating collar assembly for gas turbine combustion units consists of a sheet metal collar with a flat flange and an E seal that is pre-compressed within a block of epoxy. The collar fits over a corresponding fuel nozzle burner tube and is retained on a cap assembly by a flat plate. During assembly, the collar is loose so that it floats, which makes cap assembly easy. During operation, the epoxy used to pre-compress the E seal heats up and burns off, whereupon the E seal opens up and produces a seating load between the collar and plate that is high enough to keep the collar from rotating and thereby reduce collar wear.

Abstract: A gasket interface for a fluid filter is described. The gasket interface described includes a seal disposed between plate members, where at least one of the plate members is movable with respect to the other. The seal includes a seal position and a release position. In the seal position, the seal is compressible along an axis when the plate members move toward each other, while the seal is also expandable along another axis as a result of being compressed. The seal has a laterally extending portion to provide a sealing configuration. In the release position, the seal is non-compressed when the plate members move away from each other and the laterally extending portion is withdrawn so as not to be laterally extended and be removed from the sealing configuration. The gasket interface provides a unique sealing configuration that does not require end-to-end engagement of the sealing parts.

The surfaces are maintained in a given orientation and distance with respect, one to another, so as to achieve a desired capillaric property therebetween. A quantity of sealant is delivered to a junction region of said surfaces. The sealant is caused or permitted to flow into the defined volume, so as to achieve capillary balance. Only substantially sufficient sealant is delivered to fill the volume. The sealant is then caused or permitted to cure or set.

Abstract: A self-healing cable comprising a conductor and a water-swellable composition surrounding said conductor is disclosed. When the cable is damaged and water ingress reaches the water-swellable composition, the water-swellable composition expands and fills in any void, puncture or crack present, thus sealing the damage in the cable.

  • Patent number: 6679477
Abstract: A valve body having one or more integral seal retention grooves and one or more interior hollows which may be manufactured using frictional or other types of welding to join two previously formed portions through at least one cylindrical web. Forging or casting valve body portions to near-net-shape prior to joining minimizes machining necessary to achieve a final desired shape. Finish machining of certain valve body surfaces prior to joining is optional. One or more interior hollows and an integral seal retention groove are formed in the welded valve body from features present on the portions joined by welding to form the body. Such valve bodies have relatively high stiffness for their weight and require only limited machining to achieve a final shape. Increased valve durability and reduced metal wear arise from the reduced valve body weight and correspondingly reduced impact loading as the valve body moves to seal against a valve seat.

  • Patent number: 6648333
Abstract: In a gas turbine including a nozzle retaining ring having a first annular axially facing sealing surface and a shroud segment having an axial registering second surface. To minimize or prevent leakage flow between the retaining ring and shroud segments, a generally U-shaped seal having reversely folded U-shaped marginal portions is received in a cavity formed in the second surface. At operating conditions, the marginal portions seal against the base of the cavity and the first surface of the retaining ring to prevent leakage flow past the retaining ring/shroud segment interface. To install the seal, the seal body is first compressed and maintained in a compressed state by applying one or more wraps about the seal body and an epoxy is used to secure the seal when compressed in the cavity. At operating temperatures, the retention means releases the seal to engage marginal portions against opposite sealing surfaces of the shroud segments and retaining ring.

Abstract: The invention concerns a new seal system for resolving the problem of the contamination of special fluids carried in pumps and moreover providing improved sealing by virtue of its special geometry and design. According to the invention, one of the elements to be connected can replace the seal owing to the fact that the seal system includes a combination of two elements to be connected with a fine film ring, one of the elements to be connected having a geometry able to effect a double indentation on the film ring. The invention may be used in pumps and circuits for fluids of the semiconductor industry. The three elements of the seal system, including the pump body, tube, and film ring, may be made of PFA.
