And Circumferential Peripheral Radially Sealing Flexible Projection (e.g., Lip Seal, Etc.) Patents (Class 277/349)
  • Publication number: 20040262845
Abstract: A seal contact surface of a seal lip member and a protruding lip member of an end face seal are separated from each other and frictional heat generated at the seal lip member due to sliding motion is prevented from being transferred to the end face seal for softening the material, thus the seal capability is improved. A protruding lip member (3) provides a seal by making an angle to a seal surface (11B) of a seal ring (11) in radially outward a direction and a lip portion (15A) of a seal lip member (15) is disposed inside an inner diameter surface (11A) of the seal ring (11) for effecting a seal against a sealing object fluid.

Abstract: A crankshaft for use in a compressor that incorporates a lip seal includes a first material forming the crankshaft, an area on the crankshaft that engages the lip seal, and protection for the crankshaft from wear due to frictional contact with the lip seal. The protection includes a secondary material added to the crankshaft causing a hardened surface of the crankshaft at the area. The protection is preferably in the form of a wear sleeve on the crankshaft. The wear sleeve is formed from a second material which wears less than the first material while in contact with the lip seal and the wear sleeve is formed separate from the crankshaft and removable for replacement.

  • Patent number: 6746018
Abstract: A multiple shaft seal arrangement positioned between a shaft and an inside diameter surface of an aperture in a wall. The multiple shaft seal arrangement has a flinger attached to the shaft with a face seal mounted to the flinger. A double lip oil seal is mounted to the inside diameter of the aperture. The flinger is positioned such that the face seal is pressed against the double lip oil seal. Accordingly, rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the flinger and face seal. This centrifugally throws contaminants, such as particulate matter, away from the aperture. The void between the face seal and the inside diameter of the aperture is filled with grease or similar substance. The combination of these elements greatly prohibits debris, moisture, particulate matter or other environmental elements from passing from one side of the multiple shaft seal arrangement to the other.

Abstract: The invention relates to a seal of the type V-ring. The seal comprises a body (7) with an inner side (13) for abutting, for example, a rotary shaft (1). The seal further comprises a lip (8) with a rear side (10) and a front side (9) with a lower portion (1/9 and an upper portion, the sealing surface (16). The sealing surface is intented to abut a surface rotary in relation to the seal (5), against which surface it is intended to seal. In order to prevent the seal (5) from being broken down by aggressive medium, it is made of PTFE. A resilient ring element (12) is provided to act on the lip (8) with a force, which results in that the sealing surface (16) will move in the direction to the surface it is intended to seal against. The resilient ring element (12) further is arranged so that it cannot come into contact with the aggressive medium.

  • Patent number: 6726210
Abstract: A sealing device for a gear box includes a box having a hole defined through a wall thereof and a shaft having a first end rotatably engaged with an inside of the box. A second end of the shaft is supported by a bearing which is received in a frame engaged with the hole of the box. A cap is connected to an end of the frame in the box and mounted to the second end of the shaft. A space is defined between a skirt and a protrusion of the cap so as to receive a seal therein. The seal has a flexible plate which is engaged with the end of the frame in the box. The flexible plate effectively prevents oil in the box from entering a gap between the bearing and the frame when the shaft is not rotated.
