  • Patent number: 11092238
Abstract: A three-piece piston oil control ring 2 has an upper, disc-shaped scraping ring 4, a lower, disc-shaped stabilising ring 6, and a circular expander 8 which has projections 10 protruding in the axial direction on an inner face. The circular expander 8 is arranged between the upper scraping ring 4 and the lower stabilising ring 6, wherein the projections 10 each bear inwardly against an inner face 14 of the scraping ring 4 or against an inner face 16 of the stabilising ring 6. An outer radius 18 of the scraping ring 4 is greater than an outer radius 20 of the lower stabilising ring 6, so that there is a radius difference ? between the scraping ring 4 and the stabilising ring 6.

  • Patent number: 8251373
Abstract: The performance and durability of static and dynamic seals for hydrogen storage and supply systems has been improved by utilizing a spring-energized and plastic coated radial seal in combination with at least a mating surface that has been treated by one of a variety of procedures. These procedures include applying to the mating surface a low-friction, hard, and hydrogen impervious coating, chemically polishing the mating surface, and electrochemically polishing the mating surface. Each of these procedures significantly reduces, on a microscopic scale, the surface roughness of the mating surface. The seal can thus form a tighter and more gas-tight seal with the smoother mating surface so as to decrease the loss of hydrogen gas across the seal. The smoother mating surface can also improve seal life by reducing seal surface wear.

  • Publication number: 20080100002
Abstract: A cylinder apparatus includes a cylinder having a hydraulic fluid sealed therein. A piston rod is connected at one end thereof to a piston slidably fitted in the cylinder. The other end of the piston rod extends to the outside of the cylinder through a seal device provided at the opening end of the cylinder. The seal device has a rod seal and a backup mechanism that presses the rod seal against the piston rod. The backup mechanism has a ring-shaped resilient member provided on the upper surface of a ring-shaped support plate clamped between a rod guide and a seal cap. The ring-shaped resilient member is elastically deformed by an annular tapered wall formed on the seal cap, thereby applying a backup force to the rod seal. Thus, the force with which the rod seal is pressed against the piston rod is kept substantially constant.

  • Publication number: 20040007824
Abstract: This invention relates to the use of elastomers with the sealing element of reciprocating gas compressor valves to increase the reliability of the gas tight seal within the reciprocating gas compressor valve and to increase the useful life of reciprocating gas compressor valve. The elastomeric material is either used as a coating layer on the sealing element of the reciprocating gas compressor valve, or as the entire sealing element. The elastomeric material acts as a cushion to reduce the wear on the sealing element, provides a superior gas tight seal, and is more tolerant of entrained dirt or liquids in the gas stream thereby increasing the operable life of the reciprocating gas compressor valve. Reducing the mean time between reciprocating gas compressor valve failures results in longer reciprocating gas compressor run times for the user, increased revenue generation for the user and safer operation of said equipment.

  • Publication number: 20020067004
Abstract: An apparatus for moving an operating element has a guide surface along which the operating element may be guided. A drive means provides a driving pulse exerted on the operating element for the movement of the operating element along the guide surface. A gap between the guide surface and the outer surface of the operating element is filled by a layer of a material that acts as an adhesive layer when the operating element is at rest and as a lubricating layer when the operating element is in motion. The outside of the operating element may have a conical profile and the guide surface may have a cylindrical profile, with the gap between the guide surface and the outer surface of the operating element becoming progressively larger in the direction of movement of the operating element. The layer of material in the gap may be a dry or solid lubricant, comprising material such as MoS2 or polytetrafluoroethylene.
