  • Patent number: 7070187
Abstract: A gasket assembly includes a plurality of carriers. Each carrier has at least one non-sealing aperture and at least one sealing aperture. The sealing aperture has a seal which extends around a perimeter of the sealing aperture and is attached to the carrier. The plurality of carriers comprises a stack of carriers with each of the carriers in the stack being in touching contact with at least one other of the carriers. The non-sealing apertures of the carriers are aligned to and associated with the sealing apertures such that each seal extends through aligned and associated non-sealing apertures in the other carriers to provide a first sealing surface at a first outer surface of the stack and a second sealing surface at a second outer surface of the stack. The carriers in the stack may be joined together to form the gasket assembly. The seals may include various materials, including elastomers, such as those commonly used in automotive vehicle applications.

  • Patent number: 7040060
Abstract: Improved mounting elements, mounting arrangements, and methods of mounting liners to structures, such as stair assemblies, in pools and spas are disclosed. One aspect is a mounting element for retaining at least a portion of a liner to a structure of a spa or pool, the mounting element including a face plate and a gasket mounted to the face plate. Another aspect is a mounting arrangement including a gasketed mounting element comprising a face plate and a gasket mounted to the face plate and means for mounting the gasketed mounting element to a structure wherein the liner is secured. Another aspect is a method of mounting a liner to a structure of a pool or spa. • Patent number: 6746020
Abstract: A metal gasket is designed so that mounting and removal from a cylinder block using a bolt is easy regardless of the direction of the attaching surface and there is no risk of moving or drop off. The gasket is made of two laminated metal base plates. At a base plate part near a bolt hole of one metal base plate, a bolt engaging piece projects so that the diameter of the bolt hole is smaller than the diameter of the bolt for fastening, and an assistant piece for handling is integrated thereto. At the base plate part of the other plate overlapping the assistant piece, a cut recess is formed. When inserting the bolt into the bolt hole of the metal gasket, the bolt engaging piece is struck against the bolt and is elastically bent, and allows the bolt to pass. The gasket mounted on the bolt is kept at the mounting position by the pressing action to the bolt from the impact resilience force of the bolt engaging piece.

  • Patent number: 6722665
Abstract: A sealing assembly is provided for sealing retractable opposing planar surfaces of processing modules each having sealable cavities for the fabrication of semiconductor wafers. The sealing assembly may include an inner frame adapted to be concentrically positioned within a central opening of an outer frame. The outer frame may include lifting tabs attached to an upper portion such that the lifting tabs are graspable to removably position the sealing assembly between the opposing planar surfaces of the processing modules. An O-ring, which may include an elastomeric material, is adapted to fit about a circumference of the inner frame. The opposing surfaces of the processing modules define an opening therebetween which accepts the sealing assembly. The opposing surfaces of the modules are retractably movable towards one another thereby coupling the O-ring between the opposing planar surfaces to provide a seal.

Abstract: A hollow oven gasket has a flexible tubular member with tubular wall and fasteners in the form of clips that are captured within and extend through the wall. First and second free ends of a length of the gasket material are brought together in a termination to form a closed loop gasket member. The first end of the device is at least partially collapsed to form a male end. The second opposing end is left uncollapsed to form a female end. The male end is received within the female end to form a joint held together by engagement of the clips adjoining the joint with an oven face surrounding an oven mouth or an oven door.

  • Patent number: 6719295
Abstract: In a gas turbine having a chordal hinge seal between an inner rail of each nozzle segment and an annular axially facing sealing surface of a nozzle support ring, a supplemental seal is disposed between the support ring and inner rail of the nozzle segment on a lower pressure side of the chordal hinge seal. The supplemental seal comprises a segmented annular composite tubular woven compliant seal disposed in a cavity along a sealing surface of the inner rail of the segment. The seal bears against the annular sealing surface of the nozzle support ring, which compresses the seal. Because of the compliant nature of the seal, a supplemental seal is formed on the low pressure side of the chordal hinge seal.

Abstract: A turbine includes a sealing element with a receiving area for sealing the guide blade vanes which are adjacent to each other in the peripheral direction of the turbine. The foot plates of the guide blade vanes extend into the receiving area. The edge area of the foot plates does not have to be reinforced compared to a conventional seal, which enables the entire foot plate to be cooled homogeneously. A closed cooling system can therefore be used for cooling, especially with steam.

  • Patent number: 6702301
Abstract: An active window seal assembly is disclosed that operatively engages a movable window when the window is stationary and disengages the window when the window is in motion. The seal assembly comprises a stationary frame, a movable lip that is operatively connected to the stationary frame, and a cavity disposed between the stationary frame and the movable lip. Several configurations provide for movement of the movable lip when the movable window is in motion. The first configuration allows the cavity to inflate with air, thus forcing the movable lip away from the window. A second configuration provides that the air in the cavity be evacuated, thus pulling the movable lip away from the window. A third configuration provides that a voltage be applied to the stationary frame and the movable lip to create an electric field. The electric field draws the movable lip toward the stationary frame and away from the movable window.
