  • Patent number: 9109700
Abstract: A gasket comprising a first discrete component and a second discrete component, wherein the first and second components extend along the length of the gasket. The second component is arranged ranged relative to the first component so as to separate the first component at least from one of the two sealing surfaces. The first component is relatively hard in at least the thickness direction of the gasket and preferably incompressible and the second component is relatively soft in at least the thickness direction of the gasket and compressible. When the gasket is compressed between two flanges, there is a limited region of high compression, because the first component increases the pressure by which the second component is compressed between the surfaces of the flanges. This yields a high leak tightness of the sealing at a relatively low force.

  • Publication number: 20120139190
Abstract: A retainer for a gasket used to connect modular piping in a modular gas delivery system to the gas flow controlling components protects the sealing surface of the gasket from scratches before assembly by suspending the gasket at least 0.003 inches inside the retainer, regardless of orientation. Additionally, a slit in the circumference of the retainer allows the retainer to flex open for insertion of the seal gasket, and to compress to a smaller circumference, for a tight fit inside the sealing counterbore. A chamfer on the ID of the retainer aids the easier insertion of the seal into the retainer. In the ID of the retainer, a groove engages a protruding portion of the seal. The depth of this groove is such that with a complete compression of the retainer where the circumferential gap is completely closed, the protruding edge of the seal still has some clearance. This clearance acts as a stop to prevent the retainer from being overly compressed.

  • Patent number: 6254105
Abstract: A sealing system for an acoustic touchscreen includes an elongate gel body between the touchscreen and the bezel of a housing onto which the touchscreen is mounted. The elongate gel body forms a seal around the perimeter of the touch-sensitive area of the touchscreen. A stop element controls and limits the amount of compression of the elongate gel body. The resulting seal is highly effective in protecting the unexposed parts of the touchscreen (i.e., areas other than the touch-sensitive area) from contaminants, especially liquid contaminants, at the cost of an acceptably low loss in acoustic signal strength.

  • Patent number: 6188014
Abstract: An electrical enclosure having an improved sealing and shielding component and a method of manufacturing such an enclosure is provided. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a wire mesh is positioned against the surface of the enclosure. While the wire mesh is being positioned against the enclosure surface, a foam is formed on the enclosure surface adjacent the wire mesh. The foam generally adheres to the enclosure surface and holds the wire mesh in place. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the foam has a height equal to or greater than the height of the wire mesh. The improved sealing and shielding components can, for example, improve the sealing and shielding of the electrical enclosure as compared to conventional electrical enclosures. The present electrical enclosure may, for example, also reduce the cost of manufacturing electrical enclosures.

  • Patent number: 6186514
Abstract: A gasket having a surface thereof coated with an elastic membrane and adapted to be interposed, together with a valve plate and a discharge valve member, between a cylinder block and a housing of a refrigerant compressor under compression. The gasket includes an outer sealing portion for sealing an outer circumference of the compressor against an atmospheric environment therearound, and an inner sealing portion, connected to the outer sealing portion, for sealing between a high pressure region and a low pressure region within the compressor. Each of the outer and inner sealing portions includes in its entirety a deformable ridge which is shaped as a convexly curved projection with an apex line continuously extending along a length of the each outer and inner sealing portion. When the gasket is located in a proper position in the compressor, the apex lines of the ridges of the respective sealing portions are abutted to the front or rear housing of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6121545
Abstract: An EMI shielding spacer gasket assembly for interposition under a predetermined compressive load within an electronics enclosure between a first surface and an oppositely-disposed second surface of the enclosure. The assembly includes a frame member and an electrically conductive, elastomeric member extending along at least a portion of the perimeter of the frame member as retained on a corresponding peripheral edge surface thereof. The elastomeric member has an outboard side which is compressible axially under the compressive load for providing an electrically conductive pathway between the surfaces of the enclosure. In an uncompressed orientation, the outboard side of the elastomeric member exhibits elongate upper and lower bearing portions which are disposed at a spaced-apart radial distance from the frame member to define a corresponding bending moment arm.

  • Patent number: 5794946
Abstract: A spiral wound gasket able to compress and seal under various loads and provide sealing capabilities. The gasket generally includes a spiral wound portion and an outer guide ring to limit the compression of the gasket. The spiral winding is formed of interdisposed windings of a metal and an elastomer sealant. The metal winding has a non-planar cross-section to inhibit buckling under compression. The gasket is dimensioned such that the elastomer sealant winding has a width greater than the width of the metal winding which has a width greater than the thickness of the guide ring. In this manner, the sealant is compressed before compression of the metal winding which can be compressed until the outer guide ring is encountered.
