Patent number: 7954859Abstract: A crown-type probe seal for a female hydraulic coupling member has one or more pressure-energized seals for sealing between the probe seal and the body of the coupling member which retains the probe seal. The generally ring-shaped probe seal has one or more annular fluid chambers in the wall of the seal's body. Each annular fluid chamber is open to the outer circumference of the probe seal. Hydraulic fluid under pressure may enter an annular fluid chamber through its opening an exert a generally radial force as a result of a pressure differential. This radial force can act to increase the sealing effectiveness of the probe seal both to the body of the coupling member retaining the probe seal and to the probe of a male coupling member inserted in the receiving chamber of the female member.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2008Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: National Coupling Company, Inc.Inventor: Robert E Smith, III

Publication number: 20110107940Abstract: A gasket for a railroad car manway nozzle and cover includes an inner leg portion and an outer leg portion joined by a generally planar annular body portion defining an upper annular cover sealing surface and a lower annular nozzle body sealing surface. Concentric annular chevrons are formed on the upper and lower annular sealing surfaces. In one form, the chevrons have a uniform height relative to the upper and lower sealing surfaces. In a modified form, the height of the chevrons varies relative to the surfaces from which they extend. The height of the chevrons is a minimum where the gasket is radially aligned with cover clamping bolts and a maximum at radial locations midway between clamping bolts. A tab depending from the outer leg portion provides visual verification of the presence of the gasket.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 11, 2009Publication date: May 12, 2011Applicant: Salco Products, Inc.Inventors: Andrew J. Patent number: 6827353Abstract: A fluid container assembly design has a wide tolerance variation in the width of an open seal gap between opposed sealing surfaces of different assemblies. A resilient seal is provided with a generally rectangular central section partially supported within a groove and partially unsupported by excessive extension beyond the groove. These resiliently engage a component surface adjacent the groove to stabilize the extending portion and prevent buckling. This allows the seal to compress over its total height to seal the gap between the bottom of the retaining groove in one component and the opposite sealing surface of the other assembly component while the stabilizer projections yield to avoid involvement in the sealing function and act only to prevent buckling of the seal unsupported portion. Exemplary applications for engine rocker covers and oil pan-crankshaft seal gaps are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2003Date of Patent: December 7, 2004Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Carl E. Patent number: 6802513Abstract: A sealing profile serves to seal a casing with respect to a cover disk of a lamp. The sealing profile is inserted into a groove on the casing having a groove base. The sealing profile has a seal section which includes lateral contact surfaces and interacts with the cover disk, a connection section and a foot section which is provided with lateral retaining lips and a retaining groove. The foot section has a strip which interacts sealingly with the groove base. When the sealing profile is in the relaxed state, the strip is disposed entirely within the retaining groove. When inserting the sealing profile into the groove the retaining lips are pivoted towards and pressed against the ribs of the lateral surfaces of the connection section, wherein the strip is pressed with a portion of its cross-sectional surface out of the retaining groove into contact with the base.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2002Date of Patent: October 12, 2004Assignee: Meteor Gummiwerke K.H. Patent number: 6722660Abstract: An injection molded gasket has a longitudinally extending gasket body with laterally opposite sides and a plurality of longitudinally spaced retention nubs projecting laterally outwardly of the body from the opposite sides. At least one longitudinally extending ingate rib is formed on the gasket body and bridges at least two adjacent retention nubs. The ingate rib has a trimmed edge that extends outwardly of the body no further than that of the retention nubs located adjacent the ingate rib.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Federal-Mogul World Wide, Inc.Inventors: Erich Jacob Gernand, Thomas J. Patent number: 6648542Abstract: This invention relates to a sealing spring fastener, which comprises a U-shaped structure, on which an elastic body has been incorporated. The elastic body has a closed cavity within the U-shaped structure. The sealing spring fastener can form an assembly with an extension of a panel, preferably a plastic panel. The assembly or the fastener by itself can be engaged into the slot of a solid sheet, preferably a metal sheet, in a manner that one side of the sheet is sealed from the other side of the sheet in the vicinity of the slot. This invention also relates to vehicles having parts connected with the above sealing spring fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2002Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: Termax CorporationInventors: Michael Walter Smith, Gary John Bobeck

Patent number: 6592296Abstract: A sealing assembly comprising two abutting components and a sealing profile produced from an elastomeric material, which bridges the gap between the two components to form a seal. The components are configured in particular as sections which are assembled into a tubular tunnel thus forming transverse and longitudinal joints. There is also a sealing profile being located in turn in each recess, thus forming a cornered sealing framework. There is also a lubricant for the contact surfaces between each component and the sealing profile, in particular for the contact surfaces between two sealing profiles. The sealing assembly has at least one sealing profile that has at least two protrusions in the vicinity of the contact surfaces. The protrusions form a sealed chamber, in which the lubricant is contained.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Assignee: PhoenixInventors: Holger Gutschmidt, Heiko Höft, Dieter Kassel

Patent number: 6540234Abstract: A gasket (10; 40; 50; 70) comprises a sealing member which forms a closed loop extending around a hole. The sealing member is formed from resilient metal and has a transverse cross section which is generally X-shaped and comprises two arms (12, 14) which project inwardly of the hole, and two arms (16, 18) which project outwardly of the hole. The inwardly projecting arms form a first seal around said hole, and the outwardly projecting arms form a second seal around said hole. Each arm extends from a junction (22) with the remainder of the gasket to a tip (24) of the arm which engages one of the bodies. Each arm has its greatest thickness at said junction (22) and its smallest thickness at a point adjacent to or at said tip (24), the arm continuously reducing in thickness between said junction and said point. The gasket can yield from the tips of the arms inwardly as the pressure on the gasket increases.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1999Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Flexitallic Investments, Inc.Inventors: Alan William Atkinson, Stephen Peter Bond, John Robert Hoyes, Gary Briggs, Stephen Alexander Schultze, Kevin Richard Holmes, Julia Rosalind Mary Hood
