Multiple Alternative Patents (Class 279/14)
  • Patent number: 4976173
Abstract: A manual electric tool which has a housing having a handle and a body. The housing has a socket formed in the body and electrical contacts are accessible internally of the socket. The electrical contacts are connected to a source of energy through the handle. A removable power unit is adapted to be received within the socket and retained within the housing. A second pair of electrical contacts are carried by the power unit and adapted to engage the electrical contacts in the socket when the power unit is inserted in the socket. A motor in the power unit is connected to the electrical contacts. A shaft driven by the motor protrudes beyond the power unit. The shaft receives a tool implement on the protruding portion. The power unit has opposite end portions and the shaft protrudes beyond each end. The opposite end portions of the shaft may be directly driven by the motor, may be driven through a speed reduction gearing or combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 4834594
Abstract: A chuck to be power driven for rotating drill bits in the mining and construction fields. The chuck is designed to drive one or more telescoped drill steels which carry a mining bit and is designed to drive drill steels with square drive ends, large hexagonal drive ends, small hexagonal drive ends and large and small hexagonal ends as well as roof bolt units without modification.

  • Patent number: 4676703
Abstract: A reversible drill and drive tool for performing a series of similar drill and drive operations. The tool consists of an elongated cylindrical housing having at its rear end a shaft of reduced diameter for insertion into the chuck of a power drill and a front and bifurcated to form two arms with parallel flat interior surfaces and a generally cylindrical tool-holding member having at each end an axially recessed cylindrical socket of reduced diameter adapted to receive a drilling tool at one end and a driving tool at its other end. Each arm of the housing contains an identical elongated slot running parallel to the axis of the housing, and the tool-holding member being slidably and pivotably pinned into the housing by a pin whose outer ends lie within the elongated slots in the arms of the housing. The tool-holding member also has a pair of identical and parallel flat sides which lie parallel to the flat interior surfaces of the arms of the housing and the housing has a third elongated slot which lies at 90.

  • Patent number: 4640517
Abstract: A collet chuck has separable jaws which are freely slidable in a housing and have inner and outer faces engageable by inner and outer sleeves respectively, to urge the work-engaging ends of the jaws radially outwardly or radially inwardly. The jaws are readily replaceable by others of different effective gripping diameters, without the need for replacement of other chuck parts. The inner sleeve and a thrust element for moving the jaws relative to the inner sleeve are added to the assembly only when outward movement of the jaws is required.

  • Patent number: 4605348
Abstract: An adapter for a torquing tool includes an elongated body having a bore at at least one end to accommodate a working member such as a drill bit or fastener driver and a coupling means for detachably attaching the body to the tool. The improvement comprises a quick release means internal of the body member to detachably retain the working member within the bore and to the elongated body. The preferred quick release means is a spring loaded shuttle positioned in an opening radially through the body member and in communication with the bore.

  • Patent number: 4512693
Abstract: A reversible drill and drive tool holder for use in performing a series of similar drill and drive operations. The tool holder consists of three major parts: a hollow cylindrical locking sleeve; an elongated shaft lying partially within the sleeve and having one end adapted to be held in the chuck of an electric drill and the other end forked; and a tool holding member rotatably pinned into the forked end of the shaft. The tool holding member has a socket at each end for holding a drill bit at one end and a driving tool at the other end. The shaft is held within the cylindrical sleeve by a spring-loaded pin and is capable of axial movement within the sleeve. When the shaft is moved forward against the spring, the tool holding member is freed to rotate about the pin in the front fork of the shaft, thus permitting either a drill bit or a driving tool to be moved into operating position.

  • Patent number: 4491443
Abstract: An adapter for a torquing tool includes an elongated body having a bore at at least one end to accommodate a working member such as a drill bit or fastener driver and a coupling means for detachably attaching the body to the tool so that at least a portion of the adapter is not housed within the tool. The improvement comprises a quick release means internal of the portion of the body member that is not housed within the tool to detachably retain the working member within the bore and to the elongated body and means associated with said bore and said working member for transmitting torque from the tool to the working member. The preferred quick release means is a spring loaded shuttle positioned in an opening radially through the body member and in communication with the bore. The preferred torque transmitting means is a pair of corresponding, opposed surfaces disposed on the bore and working member, respectively.
