  • Patent number: 6325393
Abstract: A chuck device for a tool of the type having a bit on an end thereof and a drill on the other end thereof includes a spindle with a stub formed on an end thereof, a tube including a first section mounted around the stub of the spindle and a second section, a sliding sleeve slidably mounted around the tube, and a ball partially received in a transverse countersink in the second section of the tube. A first elastic member is mounted around the tube and attached between an outer shoulder of the tube and an inner shoulder of the sliding sleeve. A second elastic member includes a first end received in the stub and a second end in the tube. When the chuck device is in a condition not receiving the tool, the ball is moved out of the longitudinal hole of the tube and partially located in the annular groove of the sliding sleeve under the action of the second elastic member, and the first elastic member is in a compressed status.

  • Patent number: 6287059
Abstract: A machine tool tool changing device including a circular array of multiple collet fingers (5) housed in the shaft hole (12) of a spindle (1) capable of turning between a clamped position in which a tool holder (2) knob (22) is clamped and an unclamped position in which the knob is released, a collet sleeve (6) which surrounds the circular array of collet fingers and arrests the turning of same, an air cylinder which moves the collet sleeve axially relative to the collet fingers and releases the arresting of the collet fingers, a first plate spring (43) which exerts a strong force on the knob toward the spindle through the collet fingers, an air cylinder which removes the force exerted by the first plate spring, and a second plate spring (46) which exerts a force to maintain the collet fingers in the clamped position in opposition to the weight of the tool holder even if the collet fingers rotate and the force exerted by the first plate spring is removed.

  • Patent number: 6199872
Abstract: A holder for holding a tool, having an elongated housing, including a longitudinal hole having a cross-section corresponding to the cross-section of a mounting portion of the tool bit. The housing further has at least one radial hole running from an outside surface of the connector to the longitudinal hole. The radial hole contains a substantially spherical locking means movably arranged in the radial hole. The means cooperates with a circumferential groove in the tool bit to lock the tool bit in place when the tool bit is fully inserted into the holder. A sleeve is arranged to reciprocally slide over the first connector between two end positions. The sleeve is biased towards the tool by a first biasing means, and the sleeve has a step arranged on the inside of the sleeve, which step blocks the locking means when a tool is fully inserted into the longitudinal hole. A plunger is arranged to reciprocally slide inside the longitudinal hole, being pressed by a second biasing means towards the tool.

  • Patent number: 5901624
Abstract: An apparatus for transferring workpieces to and from the chuck of a machine tool. A gripper arm is mounted to the machine frame for selectively axial and rotational movement on a shaft having helical and longitudinal threads on the surface thereof. A first nut is rotatably mounted to the machine frame for axial advancement of the shaft and a second nut is rotatably mounted for rotational advancement. The apparatus may also include a panel mounted to the machine frame between a transfer station and the chuck. An opening in the panel adjacent the transfer station has surfaces which mate with corresponding surfaces of the gripper arm so as to preclude the passage of debris to the transfer station. The apparatus may also include an apparatus for sequentially transferring a series of workpieces. The apparatus has a two gripper jaws and a compressible pusher plate therebetween which is compressed as it is moved towards an opening in an input chute so that a workpiece may roll between the jaws of the gripper.

  • Patent number: 5884541
Abstract: An improved screwdriver in which a replaceable bit is removably secured in an axial socket in the end of the mandrel with a slot extending radially inwardly into the socket rearward of the bit. A separate bit removing lever tool is provided having a hook-shaped portion which curves back on itself to a distal end. The hook-shaped is insertable via the slot into the socket to assume a position with the distal end extending forwardly into the socket to engage the rear end of the bit with surfaces of the hook-shaped portion to engage both a forwardly directed engagement surface of the rear of the slot and the side walls of the socket such that pivotal movement of the tool guides and cams the distal end into the socket and into engagement with the bit to urge the bit forwardly out of the socket.

  • Patent number: 5873687
Abstract: A tool unit according to the invention has an arrangement wherein a shaft-like mount portion having a step is disposed on one of a tool body or a tool holder. The other of the tool body or the tool holder, includes a recessed fitting portion or bore shrinkage-fitted on the mount portion and having a step. The fitting portion includes a hydraulic feed passage for externally feeding a high-pressure oil to a gap defined between the step of the mount portion and the step of the fitting portion. In mounting the tool body to the tool holder, the high-pressure oil is externally fed to the gap through the hydraulic feed passage. Thus, a thin layer of the high-pressure oil is formed between the shrinkage-fitted surfaces, while on the other hand, the tool body and the tool holder are drawn close to each other. This facilitates the correction of inclination or axial displacement of the fitting portion relative to the mount portion, which occurred during the shrinkage-fit process.

  • Patent number: 5461947
Abstract: There is disclosed an improvement to an elongated tool holder such as the tool holders used to secure the immobilizing key used in aerospace fasteners to enable easy ejection of keys which is stuck or jammed in the holder. In these tools, a key is received in a receptacle of a tool holder that is slidably received within an outer, rotationally-driven member which distally supports a socket for engagement with the nut of the fastener of an aerospace fastener. The key is used to immobilize the bolt for non-interference fit applications of the fastener. A slot is formed along the shank of the tool holder intersecting the tool receptacle adjacent its interior end to expose the received end of the key and thereby permit insertion of an ejection member or tool to forcefully eject a jammed key from the tool receptacle.

  • Patent number: 5154105
Abstract: A pick off attachment for use with automatic multiple spindle machines includes a spindle and housing to be mounted within a sliding workholder, which is moveable along the longitudinal slide of the workstation of the cutting machine. The spindle is mounted upon a splined shaft which is mechanically linked to the spindle via a collet at one end and connected to the machine gear box at the other. The shaft extends partially into the spindle where it is connected to an ejector. The face of the ejector rests inside the shoulder of another collet. This collet is mounted on the interior of the spindle and serves to hold the part to be machined during the machining cycle. Two adjustable nuts on the shaft allow the positions of the part holding collet and the ejection mechanism with respect to the part to be machined to be varied.
