Patent number: 4330278Abstract: The invention is an improved endodontic apparatus device for holding instruments, particularly endodontic drill files that are energized and vibrated by ultrasonic means. The invention also provides for the flow-through of solutions during debriding and irrigating of root canals. The invention consists of a hollow tube-like means for conducting solution and directing it in the axial direction of the endodontic drill file; the hollow tube-like means incorporates a special holding means at the outboard end thereof for mounting the drill file in a position so that ultrasonic waves can be transmitted to the drill file to cause it to vibrate in a manner that improves debriding of the root canals. The special holding means at the end of the hollow tube-like means retains the drill file in a firm position to receive the transmitted ultrasonic waves.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1980Date of Patent: May 18, 1982Inventor: Howard Martin

Patent number: 4189162Abstract: A hydraulic chuck having a piston means with an axially centered passage, the first end of which has a tube seating means associated therewith for engaging a tube. Collet means are provided and located at the first end of the piston means for engagement of the tube upon closure of the collet means. Biasing means operably connected to the piston means for normally forcing the surface means upon the collet means are also provided. Sealing means adjacent to tube feeding means for sealing the tube to the chuck, including seal seat means adjacent to collets and positioned to compress the seal radially inward under pressure of the biasing means, are provided. Finally, the handle or attachment means is provided to operably connect to the biasing means to remove the surface means from the collet means, thereby releasing the radially inward compression of the sealing means and permitting insertion of the tube.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1977Date of Patent: February 19, 1980Assignee: Air-Mo Hydraulics, Inc.Inventors: Robert F. Patent number: 4082472Abstract: A Floating Tool Holder includes a shank having an annular sleeve secured to one end thereof, there being a tool chuck assembly retained between the end of the shank and a flange on the sleeve, driver means for transmitting rotary motion from the shank to the tool chuck assembly, there being a pair of annular bearings which engage the tool chuck assembly and enable slight relative radial movement, the bearings having flat surfaces which constitute a thermal diffusion of a metal boride, such as di-iron boride. There is a seal between the tool chuck assembly and the sleeve, and centering means acting between the shank and the tool chuck assembly and constructed to enable the conducting of a coolant through the shank into the tool chuck assembly, certain components being further constructed to enable length of the device to be minimized. The tool chuck assembly has a deep hole receptive of a substantial portion of a tool.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1975Date of Patent: April 4, 1978Assignee: Houdaille Industries, Inc.Inventors: William Arno Mossner, Gerald Edwin Mueller

Patent number: 4059279Abstract: A percussion drill in which a piston or ram is driven against the end of a drill rod comprises a tube extending through the piston and reaching into a bore at the end of the drill rod to deliver a fluid thereto for moving debris formed by the drilling operation. A socket is received in a bore of the drill rod and has a resilient lip which is deflected inwardly by the flared mouth of the drill rod bore while the tube has a tapered end which is engaged by the wall of a tapered bore formed in the socket.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1976Date of Patent: November 22, 1977Inventor: Roger Montabert

Patent number: 4040764Abstract: A tool holder includes a shank adapted at one end to hold a tool and to be clamped in a machine tool at its other end. The shank has a portion that provides accurate radial location, and also has means which are adjustable in order to provide accurate axial location. Such axially adjustable locating means include an elongated ramp accompanied by means defining a flat surface encircled by a lock ring which can engage the adjacent end surface of a portion of the machine tool which holds the tool holder. Any force tending to push the tool holder further into the machine tool is resisted by the inability of the lock ring to move up to a higher portion of the ramp. Preferably, there are a plurality of aligned ramps.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1976Date of Patent: August 9, 1977Assignee: Houdaille Industries, Inc.Inventor: Walter Baturka
