  • Patent number: 4993132
Abstract: A tool is to be automatically connected to a robot arm in well-defined angular position such that a sufficiently high torque is transmitted. The robot arm has a conical recess extending over a tool cone. A threaded sleeve is rectilinearly guided in the tool cone and displaceable with respect to a spring. A flange of the threaded sleeve engages an annular shoulder. A threaded spindle extending with a threaded head in a recess is mounted in the robot arm. The threaded spindle first pushes the threaded sleeve back against the action of the spring, such that the spindle engages the threaded sleeve with a well-defined force. Then the threaded head is screwed into the threaded sleeve and through the flange pulls the tool and the robot arm against each other by rectilinear movement. The conical surfaces and of the recess and the tool cone ensure the torque transmission.

  • Patent number: 4929131
Abstract: A cutting tool for a lineal milling machine has a female tapered surface for close tolerance matching to the outer, male tapered surface on the outside of the spindle which mounts the cutting tool to provide the maximum width of support for the cutting edge. The cutting edges comprise a plurality of carbide inserts, each with its own flute formed in the body of the tool, such that as the cutting tool is rotated at high speed an annulus of cutting surface is created which is ideally suited for use with the following method. A new method for lineal machining includes the steps of advancing the cutting tool into the workpiece to form a substantially arcuate edge, retracting the cutting tool from the workpiece, indexing the cutting tool to an overlapping position, and then advancing the cutting tool into the workpiece to remove the amount of overlap, with those steps being repeated to mill pocket openings or for any other lineal milling application.

  • Patent number: 4856944
Abstract: A coupling between a tool head and a tool support exhibits, for rough positioning, a holding fixture pin connection. By at least one fastening bolt running in the axial direction of the tool support, the tool head is braced against the tool support. In doing so the fastening bolt engages through a first screw coupling with the tool head and through a second screw coupling with the tool support. The first and second screw couplings exhibit synchronized threads of differing pitch so that, when tightening the fastening bolt, the tool support and the tool head are braced against each other in the axial direction. Further, the fastening bolt exhibits a centering section which, in the assembled state of the coupling, centers the tool head relative to the tool support. The fastening bolt, in the assembled state of the coupling, is received in its entirety in the inside of the unit formed by the tool support and the tool head and is accessible only through a borehole.
