    Abstract: A wheelchair according to one embodiment is provided with a frame and a seat assembly that is movable in elevation relative to the frame. The frame has a seat hinge mounted thereto, and is rotatably coupled to left and right wheels. The seat assembly has a side member hingedly coupled to the seat hinge and a seat back hingedly coupled to the side member such that the seat back can be maintained at a constant angle relative to the frame when the side member pivots about the seat hinge and moves the seat assembly between multiple elevations. The wheelchair also comprises a lockable spring hingedly mounted to the frame and to the seat assembly; the spring is lockable at multiple positions thereby locking the seat assembly at the multiple elevations. This spring can be sufficiently elastic to suspend the seat assembly and absorb shock at each of the locked multiple elevations.

The inner end of the shaft is suspended via a suspension device on a vehicle. The quick lock includes a rod which runs in a cylindrical hole which is concentric within and with the shaft and a catch which locks the wheel with the shaft to the suspension device. The gear shift includes the shaft, the rod and a control, all so adapted that the rod has a neutral position relative to the shaft and wherein a movement, relative to the shaft, of the rod from the neutral position in a direction from the outer end of the shaft towards the inner end of the shaft disengages the catch so that the wheel together with the shaft can be locked to and released from the suspension device.

    Abstract: A hand-operated assembly that supplies secondary drive power and steering control to a secondary drive wheel of a wheel chair. The assembly comprises a handle that is controlled with one hand and a linkage rod that extends from the handle to an eccentric arm fitted to a one-way clutch assembly at a secondary drive wheel support axle. Reciprocating up-down, pivoting movements of the handle over a range Y? in the Y axis directs a linkage rod to rotate an eccentric arm fitted to a one-way clutch and a drive axle of a small diameter, secondary drive wheel. Independent 360° rotation of the handle about a second, horizontal or Z axis steers the secondary drive wheel. A portion Y? of the range of handle motion directs a flange at the linkage arm to engage a brake piece that contacts the secondary drive wheel. Large diameter, hand driven, primary drive wheels are separately available to the user for effecting normal chair conveyance.

    Abstract: A latching mechanism permits a swing-away foot rest assembly on a wheelchair to be selectively latched into a use position extending forwardly from the wheelchair. Mating connectors are provided on the foot rest assembly and the frame of the wheelchair which are movable relative to one another by a transverse rocking pin which rocks about an upright lever axis in two directions to permit the latching mechanism to be released by deflecting a release lever coupled to the rocking pin in either one of two opposing directions. The release lever can be coupled to the rocking pin in a plurality of different orientations in the use position to suit the user. Camming faces on the connectors automatically align and load the mating connectors into an engaged position when the foot rest assembly approaches the use position from any one of multiple different directions.

    Abstract: A combination wheelchair and transfer board having a flip-back armrest. The flip-back armrest lowers upon and secures the transfer board in a vertical position at the side of the wheelchair. The armrest includes a channel for receiving a top edge of the transfer board. When the armrest is rotated back, the channel releases the top of the transfer board and the armrest is moved backwards sufficiently so that the transfer board is free to move upward. A rear landing pad is provided that supports and secures the transfer board in the vertical position at the side of the wheelchair. The rear landing pad pivots with the armrest. A plastic, self-locking plug permits the transfer board to be attached to a standard armrest receiver on a wheelchair. The self-locking plug snaps into place, and includes either a swedged portion or tabs to lock it into place.

    Abstract: By bending and stretching a link mechanism, both left and right wheels of a vehicle can be inclined toward inside of cornering to generate a camber thrust as a lateral force, i.e. an increase in cornering force. Further, by bending and stretching the link mechanism, the passenger compartment can be inclined in accordance with inclination of a connecting link, and thus the center of gravity of the vehicle can be moved toward its inner wheel during cornering. By preventing lifting of the inner wheel during cornering, cornering performance is improved. Because the passenger compartment is inclined toward the inner wheel during cornering, centrifugal force is less likely to be felt by the occupant.
