Patent number: 8651508Abstract: A portable trailer dock system features a floating dock assembly pivotally mounted atop a trailer frame to allow elevating of a free end of the floating dock assembly above the corresponding distal end of the trailer opposite the towing end thereof so that the dock can be held above the water surface when the trailer is backed into a body of water to temporarily install the dock thereat. In another embodiment, the connection between the dock and trailer is releasable to allow floating of the dock further out over the water. Another embodiment features a cover disposed over an a-frame neck of the trailer and a pair of extensions pivotally mounted to opposite sides of the neck for selective pivoting into deployed positions cooperating with the a-frame cover to form a walkway between the dock and the towing vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2010Date of Patent: February 18, 2014Inventor: Preston Woodhouse

Patent number: 8011683Abstract: A watercraft trailer has a releasable connector for releasably connecting a watercraft to the trailer. The releasable connector has a lever pivotally connected to a connector support and a hook connected to the lever. Pivoting of the lever towards a front of the trailer moves the releasable connector to a locked position and pivots the hook towards the front of the trailer. A locking mechanism prevents the releasable connector from moving to an unlocked position by applying forces to any one of the lever and the hook that would otherwise pivot the lever and the hook towards a rear of the trailer. Unlocking the locking mechanism moves the releasable connector to the unlocked position and pivots the hook towards the rear of the trailer. A method of securing a watercraft to a watercraft trailer and a method of releasing a watercraft from a watercraft trailer are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2008Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Bombardier Recreational Products Inc.Inventors: Hugo Brisson, Christian Labbe, Daniel Mercier, Joey Larouche, Bruno Girouard, Eric Fournier

Patent number: 7876234Abstract: A gauge gives a driver of a tow vehicle a visual cue that the trailer is at a proper depth within the water to recover a boat onto the trailer. The gauge has a tubular member that has a top with a red light bulb and a green light bulb thereon. A housing is attached to the tubular member and longitudinally adjusted along a length of the tubular member as needed. A switch, controlled by a float, is located within the housing, such that when there is no water in the housing, the float is at rest and causes the switch to connect the red light bulb to electricity. As water enters the housing, the float rises with the rising water level in the housing and causes the switch to disconnect the red light bulb from and connect the green light bulb to the electricity.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2008Date of Patent: January 25, 2011Inventor: Daniel C. Publication number: 20090309328Abstract: An amphibious aircraft trailer includes a frame supported on a wheel/suspension bearing axle for movements over a roadway surface. Incorporated into the trailer is a cradle configured to engage a hull of the amphibious aircraft when it is loaded and unloaded in water conditions. A lift mechanism interposed between and coupled to the frame and the cradle is operable to displace the cradle vertically with respect to the frame such that landing gear associated with the amphibious aircraft can be extended or retracted while on the trailer. The trailer may also include a plurality of wheel tracks aligned with the landing gear to facilitate the aircraft's loading and unloading in its ground based mode of operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2009Publication date: December 17, 2009Inventors: Matthew Gionta, Kirk Hawkins, Paul Nicholas

Patent number: 7584981Abstract: A modular bunk cover apparatus and system for protecting the hull of a watercraft from abrasive contact with a bunk, such as the bunks found on boat trailers, boat lifts, boat storage racks, and the like. The modular bunk cover apparatus and system can be installed on an existing bunk without removing the bunk from the trailer or other structure. The modular bunk cover apparatus and system facilitates easy launching and loading of a boat on a trailer or boat lift. The system is a replacement for carpet systems that tend to degrade over time, eventually falling off the bunk and subsequently creating a hazard for marine life, birds, and mammals.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2006Date of Patent: September 8, 2009Inventors: Roger P. Patent number: 7523952Abstract: A gauge gives a driver of a tow vehicle a visual cue that the trailer is at a proper depth within the water to recover a boat onto the trailer. The gauge has a tubular housing with an open bottom with a float connected to a plunger slidably disposed within the housing. As water enters, the float and its attached plunger rise. Either the plunger reaches a transparent section of the housing and aligns with a band to signify proper trailer depth or the plunger depresses either a first switch for proper depth or a second switch for a too deep condition. Depression of the first switch either illuminates a first light to indicate the proper depth condition or has a meter indicate the proper depth condition while depression of the second switch either illuminates a second light to indicate a too deep condition or has a meter so indicate.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2007Date of Patent: April 28, 2009Inventor: Daniel C. Patent number: 7300067Abstract: A trailer adaped for a boat that includes a U-shaped chassis having wheels and a number of struts supported by the chassis and slings or the like oriented between struts coordinated in pairs is described. The slings support the boat by abutting against an outer surface of a boat hull. Also, the chassis may be formed by two flexurally rigid branches, each one turnably related and connected with a connecting part of a first end portion of each branch. Further selected struts may consist of one hydraulic piston-cylinder arrangement each. The piston-cylinder arrangements are hydraulically interconnected such that hydraulic oil may be distributed under an overpressure between the arrangements, in correlation with the rocking and/or rolling motion of the hull, including the twisting motion of the branches in relation to the ground and the twisting motion thereof in relation to the connecting part.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2003Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Anytec Marine ABInventor: Hans Ingmar Granlind
