Clamp Comprises Plural Sole Engaging Members Patents (Class 280/625)
  • Patent number: 4166637
Abstract: A device for holding an object, such as a boot, to a support, more particularly a sports article, is designed in a manner such that the resilient member providing the necessary energy to hold the object to the support has two pivoting sections with axes coinciding in the plane of the support, the sections being united by a resiliently deformable loop. The sections and the loop are preferably in the form of a bent rod. The device may be used more particularly to hold a boot to a ski.

  • Patent number: 4155569
Abstract: A front stop for a ski binding is designed to accept boots of different widths, bearing in mind the possibilities of fitting offered by known heel-pieces mounted for resilient recoil. The front stop comprises two independent winged jaws hinged about a pivot on a mounting bracket secured to a ski. The stop is urged by a spring towards the position in which it closes onto the boot, and it comprises an adjustment device limiting closure of the jaws under the action of the spring the adjustment device being accommodated in one of the jaws. The front stop has the advantage of preventing the heel of the boot from resting upon the top of the heel-piece while the boot is being fitted to the binding.

  • Patent number: 4145071
Abstract: The binding comprises two moveable lateral jaws connected to a slide adapted to move longitudinally upon the ski. The slide is urged into the retracted position by a release spring. In the release position, with the jaws open, the slide is locked by means of hooks associated with a pedal cooperating with recesses in the slide. The binding permits a "step-in" refitting operation.

  • Patent number: 4113276
Abstract: Two sole clips are mounted on rods received in guide sleeves extending longitudinally of a ski, which guide sleeves are pivoted for swinging relative to the ski. A spring resists swinging of the sleeves relative to the ski, and another spring resists forward reciprocation of the rods in the guide sleeves. Under overstress conditions between a ski boot and the ski, the forward force on the sole clips will slide the rods forward in the guide sleeves and swivel one of the sole clips relative to its guide sleeve to release such clip from the boot sole for automatically freeing the boot from the ski.

  • Patent number: 4094530
Abstract: A holder for the toe end of the sole of a ski boot comprises two jaws biassed by a spring to an operative position at which the jaws lie against a common abutment and together define a mouth for accommodating the toe end of the sole. The abutment is a nut engaged on a screw. The faces of the jaws that make contact with the abutment or the faces of the abutment making contact with the jaws are tapered so that, upon axial movement of the nut caused by turning the screw, the width of said mouth is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4088343
Abstract: A front jaw for a ski binding having a base plate fixedly secured to the ski and on which two pivot axes are positioned which are perpendicular with respect thereto. A two-arm lever is pivotally supported on each of the pivot axes and one arm thereof is adapted to move into and out of engagement with the toe of the ski boot. The other arm of each two-arm lever cooperates with a pull rod resiliently urged to the initial position by an adjustable spring operated mechanism to resiliently hold the toe of the ski boot in the clamped position on the ski. Each of the two-arm levers cooperates with an intermediate structure to effectively control the spring force urging the two-arm levers to the clamping position holding the ski boot onto the ski. In one embodiment, this intermediate structure is a plate resiliently held perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pull rod and is moved to a position out of perpendicular relationship against the spring force by a pivoting of one of the two-arm levers.

  • Patent number: 4087114
Abstract: A safety toe clamp for a ski binding is disclosed wherein a ski boot sole holder is pivotally mounted for lateral movement on a body member provided with adjustable spring means urging said sole holder in a forward direction. Each of a pair of surfaces on said body member is each oppositely disposed outside of the central axis of the body member and adapted to cooperate with corresponding surfaces on the sole holder, the cooperating surfaces respectively being adapted to form a first swivel axis separated from the central axis of the toe clamp upon the application of an initial lateral force, and a second swivel axis upon application of further lateral movement of the sole holder.

  • Patent number: 4082314
Abstract: A holder for engaging the toe of a ski boot on a ski comprises two jaws which can be swivelled about respective vertical pivot pins from an operative sole-engaging position to an outswung sole-releasing position against the influence of a spring biassing the jaws to the operative position. Each pivot pin is rotatable but axially non-displaceable and is provided with a screw-threaded portion engaging in a tapped hole of the associated jaw. Identical pinions carried by the pivot pins are in mesh with a common intermediate gear which can be manually rotated to adjust the level of both jaws simultaneously to suit soles of different thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 4078828
Abstract: The device comprises two jaws hinged about an axle and subjected to the restoring action of a spring towards the closed position of these jaws onto a boot; a stop, integral with each jaw is adjacent its dead point in relation to the axle and is located on the other side of the longitudinal axis of the device. This arrangement reduces friction and permits effective return to the operative position whenever a load is insufficient to cause the boot to be released.

  • Patent number: 4070034
Abstract: A heel ski boot binding for mounting onto a conventional snow ski is adapted to receive and releasibly maintain the heel of a conventional ski boot during normal skiing operations and to release the boot heel upon application of a predetermined vertical, lateral or torque force through the heel against the heel binding. The heel binding incorporates a biased clamp member that is compressed into a locked attitude against a top edge of the ski boot heel but can be released upon application of a predetermined vertical or torque force. The heel binding also incorporates one or more adjustable biased roller members adapted to be urged against the ski boot heel to secure the heel in position against the ski. The roller members release the ski boot when a predetermined lateral or rotational force is applied through the boot heel to the roller members. The biasing means of the roller members and clamp members are manually adjustable to set the amount of force necessary to overcome the bias and release the ski boot.

  • Patent number: 4062563
Abstract: On a support for attachment to a ski there is at least one ski-boot clamp that is movable from a boot-clamping to a boot-releasing position. A leaf spring has one end disposed in the clamp while means on the support hold the other end of the spring. The spring normally holds the clamp in clamping position but yields to a force sufficient to cause the spring to bend to permit the clamp to be moved out to boot-releasing position. The spring is curved transversely, with its concave side facing in the direction of the counter force that the spring exerts on the clamp while resisting movement of the clamp toward releasing position.

  • Patent number: 4017098
Abstract: This invention relates to safety bindings for skis of the kind having a front binding which consists of two spaced toe-clamps which grip the toe of the boot and which are mounted on outwardly pivotable arms.According to the invention, when these arms are locked in the closed position, they are capable of release in opposition to the pressure of a spring. The force of such spring acts in the direction opposite to the direction of ski movement. In response to a sudden rearward force on the ski, the two toe-clamps can be moved apart simultaneously laterally of the ski a distance greater than the width of the boot.

  • Patent number: 3993327
Abstract: An improvement in a front jaw for a safety ski binding. A base plate and a base member are fixed together and have two axes thereon which are arranged perpendicularly to the base plate. Each axis pivotally supports a two-arm lever so that the longer lever arm engages the ski boot and the shorter lever arm engages a locking element which in turn engages a locking member movable against the force of a spring. The specific improvement is the utilization of a single locking member which is spring loaded and urged into engagement with a locking element. The locking element has a curved sector with differently inclined portions thereon so that as the curved sector moves relative to the locking element upon a swinging motion of the lever arms, the locking member will be moved against the spring resistance to a certain threshold point after which the lever arms will be permitted to move freely outwardly to facilitate a releasing function.
