  • Patent number: 4067591
Abstract: A nestable shopping cart having a basket assembly supported on a wheeled base assembly which includes a rearwardly opening U-shaped base member having rearwardly projecting side rails. The side rails include diverging front rail portions which project rearwardly from the front end of the cart and terminate in rear rail portions which extend over a substantial length and terminate at the rearward end of the cart. The rear rail portions diverge outwardly with respect to the front rail portions and define a flared chutelike opening at the rearward end of the base member. The base assembly can also have a tray mounted thereon. The forward end of the tray has a cross rod, the ends of which project into openings formed in the opposite side rails for creating a hinged connection. The tray also includes rearwardly extending support rods which pass over a mounting member which extends transversely between the side rails and mounts thereon the front casters.

  • Patent number: 4065141
Abstract: A container is provided for bulk mail, and the like, which has the form of a wheeled rack. The container is constructed to have a lower shelf and an intermediate shelf, both of which are hinged to a frame, and both of which may be turned to an upright position when the container is not in use to enable the container to be nested into other like containers so as to conserve space. Also, the intermediate shelf may be turned up when the container is in use to provide sufficient space within the container for large or bulky packages or mail sacks. The container also has a flexible webbing member attached to the forward edge of a hinged frame which supports the intermediate shelf. The webbing member may be extended upwardly and downwardly from the forward edge of the frame across the open front of the container to enclose the upper and lower portions of the open front so as to retain the load within the container.

  • Patent number: 4052081
Abstract: A cart is disclosed comprising a pair of laterally spaced apart, generally S-shaped side frame members that are joined by transversely oriented connecting rods. In one embodiment, a pair of connecting rods is provided for the upper, the middle, and the lower sections of each side frame member. In an alternative embodiment, only the upper and lower sections are provided with a pair of connecting rods while the middle section is provided with a single connecting rod. In the first mentioned embodiment, a platform is releasably mounted on each pair of connecting rods of each section of the side frame members, in order to support tote boxes, food trays, or the like. In a modification of the first embodiment, the connecting rods may be of double length so that a pair of platforms may be supported at each of the three levels with the pair of platforms at each level being in side-by-side relationship.

  • Patent number: 4045043
Abstract: The trolley has a lower platform which is provided with rollers and carries two fixed lateral grills and a movable grill between the fixed grills. At least one horizontal shelf is pivotably mounted on a first of the fixed grills and is pivotable between a withdrawn position against the first fixed grill and a horizontal position in which the shelf bears against a rod of the second fixed grill. A gate mounted on one of the fixed grills to be movable inwardly of the space defined by the three grills from a closed position to an open position prevents the shelf from being pivoted to its withdrawn position so long as the gate is in its closed position. A fixed gate is disposed above the lower platform. The distance between the gates and the shelf immediately above them is less than the height of the objects to be transported by the trolley.

  • Patent number: 4032165
Abstract: Rising from the opposite ends of an elongated rectangular base structure equipped with casters are two tubular uprights interconnected at their upper ends by a cross bar having opposite overhanging ends and brackets projecting therebeyond. The lower portions of these uprights are detachably bolted to upstanding upwardly convex arcuate braces secured to the opposite ends of the base structure. The cross bar and its end brackets are similarly detachable as a unit from the upper ends of the uprights whereby the truck may be disassembled into a compact space for return to its starting point. The base structure is so constructed as to nest with the base structures of similar trucks, so that when the articles transported from the warehouseto the destination have been delivered by several such trucks, these may be disassembled in the foregoing manner and their base structures stacked one upon the other for compactness of shipment or storage.

  • Patent number: 3977689
Abstract: A nestable merchandise cart including a rear frame and hinged side frames which pivot outwardly until limit stops are engaged, and a movable shelf which, when in place to support a load, locks the side frames into positions generally perpendicular to the rear frame. The shelf can be raised and stored, which releases the side frames to pivot outwardly and form a tapered nest into which a like cart will fit nestingly. The side frames may be biased outwardly by springs and pivot outwardly automatically when the shelf is raised, and may also pivot inwardly against the rear frame to a collapsed position suitable for high density packing and shipment of the cart.

  • Patent number: 3966221
Abstract: An improved yarn shipping rack that is modular in concept and includes an outer, skeletal frame having vertical and horizontal members united to form same is disclosed herein. Inner horizontal members in vertical alignment are secured to outer vertical members, and have yarn package receiving elements provided thereon that extend angularly outwardly therefrom. The yarn package receiving elements are preferably provided on both sides and are staggered or offset on each side with respect to each adjacent element to permit a greater number of yarn packages to be received in a given unit of space. Stacking means for the individual modules are provided at the upper and/or lower ends of same to receive the next adjacent module and hold same against appreciable lateral movement. A group of modules may thus be safely stacked during storage and/or transit. • Patent number: 3937329
Abstract: An outrigger construction that modifies after delivery for a rack used to transport rectangular sections of sheet products such as flat glass is disclosed. Such racks have an A-frame configuration with generally horizontal platforms at the base extremities of each side. Sheet products stacked on the platforms lean against an adjacent inclined side of the A-frame for transportaion of the products. The outrigger construction of the invention provides for installing after delivery vertical columnar members on each side of the A-frame so that the outermost sheet products on the A-frame can be tilted outwardly from their position against the A-frame. The outermost sheets thus lean against the vertical columnar members to allow direct access to interior sheet products on the rack.
