    Abstract: A passive seat belt system includes a guide rail, a movable anchor, drive means for causing the anchor to travel along the rail, a base to be mounted on a vehicle body and equipped with plural interlocking portions arranged with a vertical interval when mounted on the vehicle body, and a support member displaceable between an engagement position, at which the member engages either one of the interlocking portions of the base so as to restrain an occupant with a webbing fastened to the anchor, and a non-engagement position. The member is composed of a single rod-like member which in the event of emergency, engages the anchor assuming the occupant-restraining position so as to transmit a load exerted on the anchor to the vehicle body by way of the base. The above system permits, with a relatively simple and compact structure, easy wearing and release of a webbing without need for occupant's hands and change of the holding position of the anchor depending on the physical constitution of the occupant.

The clutch is preferably a centrifugal clutch in which clutch pawls are thrown outwardly by centrifugal force to engage with the tape drive gear when the motor is energized.

    Abstract: A latch device for a moving runner member used in an automatic seat belt system has a runner member adapted to be moved by a driving member between a seat occupant restraining position and a seat occupant liberating position, an operating member mounted on the runner member for movement between a first position and a second position and connected to the driving member, a lock member supported by the runner member for movement between an engaging position and a non-engaging position, a latch member secured to a vehicle body and adapted to engage and restrain the lock member moved to the engaging position and to be disengaged from the lock member trying to move toward the seat occupant liberating position and thereby release the restraint.

    Abstract: A passive diagonal safety belt is anchored in a vehicle by an automatic roller at the edge of one side door opening and also on the seat in the middle of the vehicle. The safety belt runs over a deflection element, which is arranged at the door post, so that the height can be adjusted in the shoulder region. A transport cable is arranged along the upper edge of the side door opening and is driven when the side door is opened and shut. The cable is connected with the diagonal belt via a carrier which is slidably attached to the belt. So that the passive diagonal safety belt neither contacts the heads of nor hinders the movements of the occupants of the vehicle, the diagonal belt is moved obliquely in a forward and upward direction by the cable. The cable passes over a deflection device when automatically released from the vehicle occupants and is finally placed in a guide along the upper side door opening when a gripper on the transport cable raises the deflection element.

A flexible lap tape is connected to the lap webbing through a guide member slidable along an inner surface of a vehicle door, and extends along the vehicle door and body to mesh with the other of the sprocket wheel. When the sprocket wheels rotate, both shoulder and lap seatbelt webbings are simultaneously moved through the tapes toward either the front side of the vehicle to provide an enough space for the occupant to enter the vehicle, or the rear side of the vehicle to place the webbings over the occupant at a seat.

    Abstract: A passive safety belt system has a lap element 14, a diagonal element 16 and a common element 20 interconnected by a ring 18. First puller mechanism 30 is connected to the shoulder element 16 at 32 and then runs through the ring 18 and a second ring 34 which is slidable on the common strap 20. The other end of the first puller mechanism 30 is connected to a traveller 36 on a track 38. Second puller mechanism 46 has one end connected to the second ring 34 and then runs through the traveller 36 to a spool 48 coupled to a spindle of a retractor 28 for the common element 20, so as to pay out the second puller mechanism as the common strap is wound in. The effect of this is to move the point of action of the first puller mechanism 30 nearer to the center of the car without interfering with retraction of the common strap 20 on to the retractor 28.

    Abstract: A passive safety device for vehicles has a safety belt with at least one upper end associated with the shoulder of the vehicle occupant. This upper end of the safety belt is connectable by a manually-operable belt lock with a shackle. The shackle is held on a slide which can be displaced in a guide rail held on the vehicle body between a release position and a restraining position. The slide can be locked in the restraining position in a receiving means fixed on the vehicle body by a spring-loaded locking latch. If the slide becomes stuck at a position remote from the restraining position, the vehicle occupant can be protected by manually inserting into the receiving means one end of an emergency lock insertion shackle carried separately in the vehicle, and by fastening the belt lock to the other end of the insertion shackle.

A puller strap 30 interconnects a point 18 on the safety belt with a point 32 on the vehicle so that, when the door 26 is opened the puller strap 30 applies a force to the shoulder strap 16, thereby displacing the junction 18 between the lap, shoulder and common straps 14, 16 and 20 out of the plane containing their anchorages 22 and 24 and the inertia reel 28.
