Abstract: A method of fabricating an identification card for an individual is provided. The method includes the steps of storing items of information associated with the individual on a memory and providing the identification card with inner and outer layers laminated to each other. The memory is operatively connected to a printer and at least one selected item of information is on a first portion of the inner layer of the tag. A second portion of the inner layer of the tag is removed and a first portion of the outer layer is folded over and affixed to the first portion of the inner layer such that the first portion of the inner layer is captured between the first portion of the outer layer and a second portion of the outer layer.

Abstract: A binding mechanism including a body portion having a flange opening extending therethrough. The body portion further includes or at least partially defines a body portion opening positioned adjacent a base end of the flange. The binding mechanism has a manually deflectable flange coupled to the body portion. At least part of the flange is insertable through the flange opening from a first side of the body portion to at least partially form a loop on the first side of the body portion. The at least part of the flange is alternatively insertable through the flange opening from a second side of the body portion opposite the first side to at least partially form a loop on the second side of the body portion. The body portion opening is configured to receive the flange therethrough to enable the flange to be positioned on either the first side or the second side of the body portion.

Abstract: A binding component holding sheet is configured to detachably hold a binding component obtained by spirally winding a wire rod and includes a holder configured to hold the binding component by insertion of a circumferential portion of the spirally wound binding component. The holder is configured to hold the binding component so that an area greater than a half of the binding component in a circumferential direction protrudes to one side of the binding component holding sheet and an area less than the half of the binding component in the circumferential direction protrudes to the other side of the binding component holding sheet.

Abstract: Provided is a book cover core body and a kit, which are used for manufacturing a book cover member which allows the original book to be finished easily, accurately, and neatly when an individual prepares an original book according to his taste without having to use an auxiliary tool such as a ruler and a stabbing.

Abstract: Printed products (2), in particular newspapers or magazines with different supplements are, for distribution, packed into a covering sheet e.g. made of paper. The covering sheet (1) comprises at least one region, which is completely punched-out and/or at least one region (7), which, due to a partial punching out is easily removable from the covering sheet (1). The punched-out region is a window (6), through which the title and/or the headline of a newspaper or magazine packed into the covering sheet (1) is visible. Partially punched-out regions (7) of the covering sheet (1) are marked by corresponding printing as voucher, reply card, collector's card, punch-out sheet or toy and are removed from the covering sheet (1) for functions other than the covering function of the covering sheet (1).

Abstract: A book block is contemplated to be bound in its individual sections through various techniques. These sections will be attached to the book cover by a magnetic or mechanical way. The user of the book will then be allowed to select and detach individual sections of the book without destroying the integrity of the entire book block. Likewise, publishers of the book are now able to update and/or replace sections of an entire book block without needing to reprint and republish the whole book.

Abstract: In a coplanar-joined printing carrier of at least two sheet-like partial printing carriers, wherein one of the partial printing carriers has a paper layer, the invention provides that the paper layer of the one partial printing carrier is weakened in its thickness along a marginal strip by removal of a partial layer, the other partial printing carrier has less thickness along one marginal strip than elsewhere, and the two partial printing carriers are joined together along their two marginal strips. Also described are a method especially suited to the making of such a printing carrier.

The attachment may slide over and couple to a cover of a standard book The attachment may have pockets or other attachment means that are coupled to the front and/or back cover of the book The pages of the attachment may have text and/or illustrations that substantially correspond to the text and/or illustrations found in the standard book The pages of the attachment may be connected to the attachment means with a spiral or other type of binding. The reader preferably flips pages in the attachment such that the pages in the attachment correspond to pages in the book that are being read. A method of interactive reading can use interactive prompts, suggested activities, and/or additional text for encouraging the reader to involve the listeners.

The book cover similarly contains printed indicia of the subject matter of the book and said cover indicia by reason of graphics, color or text being susceptible is also easy perceived and identified when said book containing said book cover is arranged in partial overlapping sequence from north to south.

Abstract: A book covering, for example for protecting a dust jacket on a hardback book, has a transparent front sheet (10) and overlapping upper and lower rear sheets (12,14) which can be secured together by means of an adhesive strip (26). In an alternative embodiment, one of the rear sheets may be omitted and the adhesive (26) applied to the upper edge of the transparent front sheet (10). That sheet may then be folded over by the required amount, according to the size of book to be covered, and secured to the rear sheet (14).

Abstract: A book has two covers and a set of book pages contained between the covers. The covers close to form a shape which has an external appearance resembling the head of a creature, with two eyes and a mouth. The two covers are joined to one another along a minor portion of the circumference, and are connected along the remaining portion of the said circumference by a releasable fastener such as a zip such that the fastener (the zip) forms the mouth. The pages of the book can be accessed by releasing the fastener and hinging open the two covers about the minor portion of the circumference.

Abstract: A record pad is provided having a paper top sheet with top and bottom faces and an underlying record bottom sheet with a transfer medium between them. The top sheet has an upper margin and a pattern (such as a substantially continuous strip) of repositional adhesive is provided on each top sheet bottom face adjacent the upper margin and substantially parallel to the upper margin. This provides a record pad construction which is more user friendly particularly for left handed writers, and makes it simpler to attach a top sheet—once removed from the pad—to another sheet or object. Preferably the top sheet is segmented into three different portions by through cut lines (or perforations or other lines of weakness), and along a securing edge of the top sheet another through cut line is provided, substantially perpendicular to the upper margin. The repositional adhesive strips are spaced from the upper margin or lines of weakness about 1—5 mm (e.g. about 2 mm).

Abstract: A ring binder (100) has a center spine (102) and end leafs (104). The spine section has jaws (108) formed on each side which extend the length of the spine section. Each end leaf has one end (104a) insertable into one of the jaws and thereafter held in place by serrations (110) forming the jaws and which frictionally engage the one end of the leaf to keep it permanently in place. A binder ring assembly (10) includes binder rings (18-22) and a mechanism (14,16) for opening and closing the rings. The spine section includes rivets (72) integrally formed at each end of the spine section and the binder ring assembly includes a cover (12) having corresponding openings (68a,68b) for attaching the binder ring assembly to the spine section. This binder construction allows different width end leafs to be used with a common spine section to form a variety of different size binders using a common spine section.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for affixing book pages to a book cover is disclosed having a sheet of paper with at least one waxy side and two stickers, each having a first side, the first side being sticky and removably affixed to the waxy side of the sheet of paper. In the preferred embodiment, the two stickers are separated by a distance to accommodate the thickness of pages of a book. The apparatus also has a means for easy removal of the stickers from said sheet and is preferably done by having the sheet of paper extending beyond each of the stickers to allow for easy separation of the stickers from the sheet of paper. The stickers may be attached to the book pages by a variety of means such as staples, channel binding, or otherwise.

Abstract: A holder for a book, such as a paperback or hard cover book, comprises a stiff flat member creased to provide a central stationary panel corresponding to the spine of the book, and a pair of pivoted panels corresponding to the front and back of the book. A spring assembly comprises a plurality of long concave thin metal members connected together by a strip of tape and connected to the stiff flat member by a pop rivet. The ends of the springs are received by a pair of plastic sleeves which are stitched to the stiff flat member. The stiff flat member is covered by a vinyl sheet in such a way as to have a curved edge providing a radius of at least 1/16". A transparent strap connects to the opposite sides of the book holder and presses open pages of the book against the flat stiff member. The curved edge prevents the transparent strap from being cut by the book holder.

Abstract: In portable stereo radio receivers and television receivers, the loudspeakers therein may be separated only by a limited amount. This severely restricts the stereo image created by the loudspeakers. A circuit arrangement for creating an expanded stereo image may be incorporated in such receivers. This circuit arrangement first forms a combined monaural signal and a differential signal from the two stereo signals. The differential signal is then subjected to a phase shift. The phase-shifted differential signal is then matrixed with the combined monaural signal to form output stereo signals. When reproduced through stereo loudspeakers, the stereo image appears to be greatly expanded, beyond the limited placement of the loudspeakers.

Abstract: A system for releasably and laterally mounting or removing a plurality of booklets including in a preferred embodiment: 1) unitary spines for removably retaining the booklets therein each having at least one upstanding tab on an outer surface thereof and, 2) a binder for releasably mounting the unitary spines therein, the binder having a plurality of longitudinally extending channels that are spaced apart and parallel to one another and have a ridge for engaging the upstanding tabs on the unitary spines during mounting and removal of the unitary spines in the binder.

Abstract: A binder for attaching separate leaves together in a non-permanent fashion. The binder comprises a scarfing section, a clamping section, and tenons. Each binder is attachable to additional binders such that the number of leaves held together by the device is adjustable, and is virtually unlimited.

Abstract: Disclosed is a portfolio comprising a body of sheet-like material having a central hinge line dividing the body into first and second covers. A foldable panel is hingeably attached to the first cover, and has a surface carrying a serial array of card-receiving pockets which are exposed to a user when the foldable panel is folded away from the first cover. In one embodiment, the portfolio includes an interior section forming a pocket with the first cover. The foldable panel divides the pocket into two chambers when disposed on either side of the foldable panel. In a second embodiment, the interior section comprises an integral extension of the foldable panel being joined thereto by an interior hinge line.

In accordance with the invention one side-piece (6) of the folder (1) incorporates a pocket (8) whose mouth (9) is located adjacent that outer edge (10) of the side-piece (6) which is parallel with the ring mechanism (3) or corresponding device. The wall of the pocket (8) located nearest the outer side (12) of the folder comprises a plastics film (11) made of a soft and stretchable plastics material.

Each set is then secured to a header plate which is removably secured to an associated attachment plate. The attachment plate is itself secured to the file folder cover. Abstract: A flexible, transparent plastic book cover has a pocket portion attached to the front cover portion containing various pages or a booklet containing emergency medical information. The book cover is particularly adapted to fit telephone directories of any thickness. The book cover has a front cover section having a pocket to slide over the front cover of a phone book, and a rear cover section having a sleeve for slidably receiving the back cover of a phone directory. The third section, which is hingedly attached to a forward portion of the front cover section and extends rearwardly therefrom, is adapted to mount a booklet containing medical information.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improved design associated with an album whose appearance evidences that of prebound construction and the method for the fabricating thereof such that there is able to be created an album of as many pages as desired, each page capable of being interlocked by means of an interconnecting spinal component affixed as part of each and every page such that upon the interconnecting of said spinal members of each and every page, there is achieved the appearance of a prebound album along with having the structural integrity of same but which has in fact the capability of being selectively assembled to any desired number of pages. Additionally, each page is constructed so as to permit the insertion on to each surface thereof an item to be displayed, be it a picture, or otherwise, such that there is achieved as an overall appearance as to each and every page an aesthetically appealing display along with a consistently uniform flat surface.

Abstract: A large rectangular sheet is subdivided into successive sheets joined along common fold line edges to produce an accordian, folded book in which pairs of the smaller sheets form successive pages and the successive pages are joined side-by-side by the successive fold lines. A binder joins the rear fold line edges of the sheets together and a perforation line extending parallel to the upper and lower edges of each of the sheets provides a means by which the book can be torn in two. Instruction indecia are placed in the upper panels and the lower panels of each sheet are blank so that a child may illustrate the instructions on these blank panels.

Abstract: A book-type ornament adapted to be suspended from a Christmas tree bough or other like support has a plurality of pliant inner sheets folded on themselves to provide pages. A pliant outer sheet is folded on itself to provide top and bottom cover portions, with the pages being arranged therebetween, and with the fold lines of the inner and outer sheets being parallel and adjacent to one another. A flexible elongated element is received in aligned openings located at the fold lines of the inner and outer sheets. This element extends exteriorly of the fold line of the outer sheet to form a loop for suspending the ornament. Planar outer elements overlie the exterior surfaces of the cover portions. The outer elements, which are dimensioned to expose the fold line of the outer sheet, have inturned peripheral flanges overlapping the edges of the cover portions.

Each pamphlet can be removed from the booklet for dispensing with a filled prescription. Each pamphlet serves as a patient package insert. Abstract: A simulated leather checkbook cover includes an outer cover sheet and an inner pocket-forming sheet of vinyl sheet material. The peripheral edge of the outer sheet is turned inwardly over and around the peripheral edge of the inner sheet, and the layers of the edge portion are secured to each other by a radio-frequency dielectric heat sealed vinyl-to-vinyl bond and by a line of threaded stitching extending through all three layers close to the turned over edge. The cover sheet has a flow-molded design portion in its outer surface with a depth and pattern simulating a hand-tooled leather design. The design portion includes a depressed flat area within which any selected one of a plurality of originally separate and differently ornamental inserts is adhesively secured.
