The security document having at least one bio data page and at least one paper data page stitched together, and at least one cover sheet placed outside the bio data page and the paper data pages, said cover sheet having at least one end paper sheet stitched with the stitched pages and one cover material sheet attached to the end paper sheet. The inside of the cover sheet is kiss cut in order to prevent any splitting of the cover sheet.

Abstract: A folding sunshade comprises two sunshade panels and a binding member. Each sunshade panel includes an annular frame, a shade screen surrounded by the annular frame, a connection element connecting the annular frame and the shade screen in a spaced manner and a gap interposed between the annular frame and the shade screen. The two annular frames include respectively one side abutting each other to be defined as a connection frame side and other portions outside the connection frame side defined as an operation frame side. The binding member includes an extended state in which each curved section is tightly stretched to confine each operation frame side to be separated from each other in a maximum manner, and a folding state in which each confining section is tightly stretched to allow one operation frame side to swivel and fold over another operation frame side.

Abstract: A binding strip includes a substrate having an interior surface and an exterior surface, a spine-alignment edge, a free edge opposite the spine-alignment edge and substantially non-perpendicular thereto, a face-attachment portion of the exterior surface adjacent to the spine-alignment edge, and a wraparound portion of the interior surface adjacent to the free edge. A border is defined laterally between the face-attachment portion and the wraparound portion and substantially parallel to the spine-alignment edge. An adhesive layer is arranged over the wraparound portion. A first spacer is affixed to the interior surface opposite the face-attachment portion so that a fastener area is defined. The spacer has a selected thickness.

Abstract: A bound document has front, back, and interior sheets with spine edges. The document has a binding strip and fasteners binding the sheets and the binding strip together. The strip has a flexible substrate with a face-attachment portion through which the fasteners are driven, and a wraparound portion that is bent so adhesive on the wraparound portion contacts the back sheet farther from the spine edge of the book than the feet of the fasteners. The strip also has a first spacer affixed to the interior surface opposite the face-attachment portion so that a fastener area is defined, the spacer at least as thick as the protrusion of the heads of the fasteners above the face-attachment portion.

Abstract: Sheets are bound to form a bound document by fastening together the sheets and a binding strip. A spacer is applied to a back sheet adjacent to the feet of the fasteners. A wraparound portion of the binding strip is folded around the spine edges of the sheets so that adhesive on the strip contacts the spacer or the back sheet farther from the spine than the feet of the fasteners. The adhesive is affixed to the back sheet. The binding strip includes a spacer adjacent to the heads of the fasteners, protruding above the face-attachment portion at least as far as the heads of the fasteners do.

Abstract: A notebook includes a top cover, a bottom cover, a spine that bonds both covers and that has a bonding means, and sheets bonded by said bonding means. The notebook has three borders comprised by the edge or thickness of each of the sheets. The notebook has a first base bonded to the sheets, wherein a cover is bonded by three of its sides to the first side, thus leaving an unbonded side. The notebook has a second base bonded to the sheets, which has a tabs zone housing at least one tab. The notebook may include a coating resulting from a dye spraying procedure over the borders. The dye has a desired viscosity that when it contacts the border, only an amount of dye that covers the edge or thickness of each sheet is absorbed, thus preventing the dye from smearing towards the inner part of the sheet.

Abstract: An information page (1) of a security document, includes: an information part (3), on the upper or lower surface of which part of the information recorded on the information page (1) can be seen; and a flexible connecting part (2) with good bending strength for attaching the information page (1) to a security document. To ensure that detaching the information part and the connecting part from each other leaves visible marks, the connecting part (2) has a netlike structure, and the connecting part (2) is arranged to penetrate into the information part (3) in the immediate vicinity of the upper or lower surface of the information part.

Abstract: A security feature for use with secure booklets, especially those having a spine, for example passports, identification booklets and other types of ID3-sized documents. In one example, the security feature is printed across the spine of the booklet onto two adjacent pages. Most conventional, commercially available printers are unable to print across the spine, and therefore would be unable to reproduce the security feature. In addition, in the case of a booklet, for example a passport, that uses a stitching thread to secure the pages together, ink from the printed image bleeds into the thread. The presence or absence of ink in the thread can then act as an indicator as to whether or not the booklet is genuine or a counterfeit. Another security feature includes registration of a pre-print portion and a variable print portion that is applied during booklet personalization to form a combined image.

Abstract: To facilitate page layout suitable for a bookbinding method, an image processing apparatus includes a determination unit which, when booklet printing of forming a book by folding a plurality of sheets is set, determines, based on the shape of image data to be laid out on the sheet, whether to lay out the image data on a spread of the book, a decision unit which decides, based on an object in the image data determined to be laid out on the spread of the book, whether to divide and lay out the image data, and a layout unit which divides the image data decided by the decision unit to be divided, and lays out each of the divided image data on the sheet of the spread.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a book block with a rounded or a rounded and pressed back includes adhering a first plurality of narrow retaining strips along outer leaves and back of the book block. Additional retaining strips may be applied transversely across the back of the book block in the region of the top and bottom of the back of the book block. Thereafter, the book block may be rounded or rounded and pressed. It is believed that application of the retaining strips prior to the rounding and pressing operations reduces the forces of resistance in the rounding and pressing operations.

Abstract: The improved cloth book cover according to the invention has a spine area, and a front and back cover portion having pockets at the two lateral edges in which the front cover and the back cover of a book may be inserted. The cover is made from an elastic fabric, preferably spandex, so that the cover is elastically retained on the book. The cloth material is also preferably water resistant and flame retardant. An optional pocket located on the outside spine area of the book cover may be fashioned to contain pens, pencils, rulers, etc. A method of making the cloth book cover uses overlock stitching along the top and bottom edges of the cover and along the unfolded edges of the pockets.

Abstract: The invention relates to an identification document, such as a passport or the like, which consists of a plurality of sheets bound into a book at a seam. At least one of the sheets forms a data sheet provided with information and consisting at least of two layers, at least one of the layers being transparent. The format of the layers is selected so that they protrude beyond the area of the seam thereby ensuring a connection of the data sheet with the other sheets of the identification document in the area of the seam. The layers are connected into an inseparable laminate in the area of the information but do not stick together in the area of the seam.

Abstract: A method and a device for the production of folded products utilizes a row of folding jaws and a row of counter folding jaws. A signature to be cross-folded is inserted between the jaws by a folding blade. The folding jaws and counter folding jaws form a line of embossing on the folded signatures adjacent the transverse fold line. The resultant folded item has an increased moment of resistance in the direction of transport.

Abstract: A casing for a binder or book is disclosed in which there is at least one stiff panel portion and a thermoplastic sheet for covering the panel portion with the end and/or edge portions of the sheet being folded under and secured to the underside of the panel portions. The sheet comprises between about 30% and about 55% copolymer of propylene and ethylene; from 0% to about 12% propylene homopolymer; between 0% to about 20% high density polyethylene; between about 23% and about 35% calcium carbonate or talc filler. The product is especially adapted for high speed machines for making binder casings.

Abstract: A passport includes a data sheet of an individual and a plurality of visa sheets combined with the data sheet and bound by a thread to form a thread binding along a central folding line. A surface of an individual's data printing page of the data sheet is laminated with a protective film composed of a see-through synthetic resin film. An anti-counterfeit structure of the passport is characterized in that the protective film is laminated over a gutter portion of the data sheet including the central folding line, and the thread binding is formed through the laminated area of the gutter portion.

Abstract: A method and an article are disclosed pertaining to the production of book blocks comprising a stack of signatures each having a fold and which together form a spine of the book block, the signatures being aligned with one another on their flat sides and stitched together by means of a binding thread with at least two spaced transverse seams formed of a double strand of binding thread passing through each of the folds of the signatures from a location outside of the signatures and extending along an inner edge of each of the folds to an exit point in each of the folds, a first one of the at least two spaced transverse seams being formed by chaining together loop-like binding thread sections pulled successively out of the folds of the signature. The chained transverse seam is interrupted after a stack section determining the size of the book block has been formed.

Abstract: A notebook includes a cover member formed of flexible cardboard and having a medial flat spine and a pair of rectangular cover wing sections extending from the spine side edges. The body of the book includes several superimposed booklets with juxtaposed spines glued to the book spine, each of the booklets consisting of a stack of rectangular paper sheets joined along their medial longitudinal axis by a line of stitches. The sewn stack forming each booklet is folded along the longitudinal medial axis to form the respective booklet spine and the booklet pages.

Abstract: The invention relates to a bookbinding formed of quires (1) sewn along seams (2) to tapes, cords or the like (3), which are assembled with the plats (4), end-papers (5) being inserted between the plats and the quires. The end-papers (5) are made of flexible material resistant to folding and tearing and are sewn to the quires (1). The plats (4) are substantially thicker than the tapes or cords (3) and are provided externally with recesses (9) in the shape of notches or slots formed by molding, stamping or thermoforming, in registry with the bands or cords (3), the width and depth of these recesses (9) being such that the bands or cords (3) will be fully retracted therein without protruding above the surface of the plats, these recesses extending into apertures (12) having a cross-section matching that of the bands or cords (3) for allowing them to be threaded through these apertures (12).
